Description

Dres Chap-thil Hats based on Ateigaer’s concept art.

These are done; I've added the additional slashes to the 1st variety, redone the tuft texture (it could still be improved, I think) and v-shaded.

Oh wow that is lovely!
I especially like the pattern, even better than I imagined, nice job man!
Alternate name for Chap-Thil:  Basket-Heads :-P

On that note, I think the second version of the current hats needs at least another row of holes in the center, for the guy to actually somewhat believably see something.

Added another row of holes

Added another row of holes for the second version; I might take another whack at it later, because I'm not quite sure they’re positioned right.

That looks much better! Sorry

Sorry to bother again, I looked at the first version again and thought about how  a second row of slots on the top part might look like, so to speak as another pattern in itself. They also don’t have to be real holes, they could just be an imitation. What do you think? I’ll upload a pic.

Maybe scale it down just a

Maybe scale it down just a bit? And maybe move it a bit forward on the x axis; the placement in-game right now is slightly off, IMO.

Otherwise it's pretty damn awesome. We could have some color variants of this!

 After sleeping on it, I

After sleeping on it, I think that it comes down to the fact that the material needs to be different. Instead of basket woven, maybe it should be salt strap or saltrice.  Maybe even Durzog hide. Am I wrong in thinking that?

Fair point, I’ve tried to

Fair point, I’ve tried to move the texture in a less basket-y direction (though now they’re perhaps a bit sack-like).

I can’t say I don’t like the

I can’t say I don’t like the new versions, the’re superb.
After seeing them now, I also think the more muted colors, fit the desert feel much better.

I can’t wait to meet a Chap-Thil!
Also would there be any way to show the face through the hat? That would make it look more realistic.

Excellent, it looks odd in

Rot's picture

Excellent, it looks odd in the screenshot but can’t point out why… maybe material-textures are usually less realistic? or is it the gleam on the rims (what material is that?) It doesn’t need to blend in together with that chainmail though, only with local outfits.

I’ve brought down the

sirrah's picture

I’ve brought down the contrast on the rim texture; I think that’s fixed the eye-popping quality, but I haven’t checked in-game yet (I’ll try to get the files up soon).

Hm, I don’t like the one in

Kevaar's picture

Hm, I don’t like the one in the screenshot. It looks too much like a bag with holes cut into it, rather than a woven basket. The 1st and 4th one in the color variations screenshot are the best, I’d say.

Hm, the top part still looks

Kevaar's picture

Hm, the top part still looks a littl ebag-like to me. Maybe throw in another faint design like you did on the bottom half? (Really loving the faint designs by the way).

Relavent question now: Which of these get implemented? Or do we just throw the entire 15 variants ingame and call it good? Oh! Maybe one color morph for each Dres clan, explained as the designs on them being symbols of the clan. (Though that’s still a lot of hats..!)

They can have the same names

Rot's picture

They can have the same names ingame so that many variants don’t become an issue (like all common robes are Common Robe)

Also, not all variants have

Ateiggaer's picture

Also, not all variants have to be displayed by a NPC wearing it. Some could just be rarer and found by the player.

Still needs some work (at the least, I still need to add slashes to the top of the first helmet, and the 'plume' on the third one needs a better texture).
