I'm a long time lurker and admirer, so it's a bit sad that my first ever post will be something like this.

I installed Morrowind Overhaul using the automatic installer, followed instructions and only added MGE-XE after I could make a save in Seyda Neen. However when I've added Tamriel Rebuilt the game cannot load the save and simply crash, I also noticed that when I opened NMM to activate the esp files for TR everything added by MGSO was unchecked. I check everything and run the game, only to discover that most of the MGSO additions are gone (and the game crashes when leaving the Census offices).

I've reinstalled everything twice, no luck. Any directions on how to get this working would be appreciated, I'm guessing I'm installing TR wrong, somehow. Is there a specific way to install mods with MGSO active?

Note that I've followed the instructions for the two mods to the letter, using the bsa reg and making sure Morrowind Overhaul is working before trying to add TR. I'm puzzled and kind of despairing at the prospect of not being able to enjoy such a fantastic vision of Morrowind, so I'd be extremely grateful for your help!

Edit: I tried to put this in the relevant forum but I'm not 100%, appologies if this would be better suited elsewhere.

For starters I'd suggest not using Nexus Mod Manager (that's what NMM stands for isn't it?)

I don't know much about it and you're the first person I've heard of who's using it for Morrowind. I heard of people having problems using it with Oblivion mods so I'm not surprised there are problems with Morrowind ones.

I'd suggest reading this post from the Official Forums on installing mods.

The Sacred East package isn't the best but you need to have the contents of its Data Files directory in your installation's Data Files directory.

So, "TR_Data.bsa", "TR_Data.esm" and "TR_Mainland.esm" are all in the same place as "Morrowind.esm" and the "Bookart" and "Sound" folders are extracted into your Data Files folder too.

You will also need to register the BSA, for instructions read the read me.

I did away with NMM in subsequent reinstallations since I'm only really interested in the two mods mentioned above and because I thought it could be the problem, but it really doesn't seem to have made any difference.

Thank you for your response, I'm well aware of how to install mods and I carefully read the readme before attempting to install either TR or MGSO, following the instructions to the letter (except for some advice, from MGSO, in regards to installing the game itself which was outdated). No luck. My post here was mostly in the hope that I'd missed something in regards to how mods are installed for Morrowind since it's years since I last played the game, from your post it doesn't seem like there's any difference so I suppose I'll just have to try and retry once more.

Anyway, your responses is much appreciated, even if I may seem a bit flippant about it, heh.

This is odd. Do you have Morrowind installed in "C:\Program Files"?

With Windows 7 and up this can cause problems as a program's ability to edit configuration files (like morrowind.ini) is restricted when it's installed in there.

That just makes me wonder from what you described the NMM behaviour being.

Can you use the Morrowind Launcher to enable the TR masters after installing MGSO?

I installed it in C:\Morrowind. I can activate through data files but it seems to break both mods and gives me a CTD.

Weirder and weirder.

So, MGSO and all its included mods work fine (if you don't install TR). When you add the two TR ESMs using the launcher and then try and Play the game it crashes.

Does it get as far as the Morrowind splash screens or does it crash before then?

If you are at least starting the game, it should show which plugins are being Loaded and then "Initializing data" before reaching the main menu, there could be something to work with.

Now, I'm not going to be around for a week or so after today but could you post your modlist (from the bottom of morrowind.ini) and the contents of your warnings.txt?

You could well get a swifter response over at the Official Forums (more eyes and more of them familiar with MGSO over there) than here
