What exactly is the functionality of that island? It looks like 5 levels of exterior hallway, and highly indefensible.

You know Haplo, this is not the place for this discussion. I will finish the rough concept of this soon and post the file in the appropriate thread and explain what the purpose is.

Seriously, please don't judge it so much by the screenshots. They are just an update. It has a purpose.

Pardon me, Scamp. The claim thread for Baan Malur is exactly the place to discuss work being done on Baan Malur, so please don't try to tell me any differently. Regardless of whether any discussion is taking place elsewhere, you should not post screenshots or any other type of work in a claim's thread if you do not expect a discussion to follow. The point of discussion during the creative process is to prevent work from being wasted and to ensure that people aren't doing something that we will need to go back and change/redo later on. We've had those kinds of situations before.

You may know the purpose, since you built it, so please answer my question when I ask you. Modders should not get in the habit of telling Administrators to go snuff themselves when asked a question.

Geographically, maybe eventually. With the prospect of a future city surrounding it aside, it is still an island in the middle of an open waterway, unless Scamp plans on putting a gate and lock system at the entrance to the bay.

Either way, my question still stands.

People need to calm down in here tbh. It's plain that the centre of the tower is several interiors, leading up to the top, and the corridors around it is all for access.

The main point is that it's pretty and unique, and makes an awesome centrepiece to the city (especially considering the limitations of the Redoran set). A tall tower with lots of stairs makes for good defence anyway >.>

Also, the upper part of the tower is the Council Hall.

I personally think this building has an excellent defense. It's surrounded by water, only connected by bridges and allows for great archery positioning.
Furthermore, the entrance of the bay is going to be properly secured.
Sorry about being a dick. Those aren't fun in discussions. ...or are they?

Awesome stuff Scamp, that building looks really awesome and I look forward to exploring it. IMHO though the little bay it's in looks really awkward and forced, not natural at all. Wouldn't it be better just off the coast, maybe in a slight bay?
Warning: may contain large amounts of sarcasm.

Thanks,

first of all the bay is not small o.0

The bay itself has been part of the Baan Malur concept for years, so no. Also, I highly recommend to wait a bit D: The city is not finished and will look a lot different later, that's what I can say.

Okay, the Council Hall is now going to be a seperate building somewhere within the rest of city, and the tower will only have the purpose of being the docks, though the upper part might be some more important building, which I have no purpose for yet.

Please note that I won't be modding for the next 2 or 3 weeks due to vacation and stuff.

Thanks.

Baan Malur has been unleashed!

Make sure you put this mesh into Meshes\TR\x. Credit goes to Adanorcil.
Also, this model for the Baan Malur Council House is not finished; Doors and windows will be added soon.

Done a quick run over of the city.

Stunning, really stunning Scamp.

One point of contention I have though, the upper levels of the docks seem superfluous. They can't be reached by any means besides levitation, and there's nothing up there.

They aren't superfluous. I left them because the whole thing wouldn't look any good without them and without having to look at the file I know that there were some crates in the highest level and it was accessible.

Only on one side. One end is unreachable, along with the the top level. I don't mind leaving it for aesthetic reasons though.

TESAME: Clean

Fits exterior: Yes

Northmarker set: Yes
Loading errors: No

Review: There were some caspering rocks and some uncovered landspikes and the like. Given the kind of manipulation Scamp put onto that landscape its not surprising some of those errors would pop up, but there were very few of them. Pretty neat overall.

Comments I think this is probably our most creative city ever. As far as departing from the typical Bethesda motifs, this is clearly the most outlandish, and most unique, location created to date. A full 10 points awarded for creativity alone.

Thank's for the Blog post Scamp. :)

As has been said before, Baan Malur looks great. I cannot fathom why the Redoran would move their capital from such an awesome place. You really made Ald-ruhn look like a real s*** hole in comparison.

How about everyone just stops and takes a deep breath.

Scamp, Leon got carried away. He's been reviewing a lot of things lately and I think he'd agree with me saying that he might have got a bit cocky with how many things he's been finding. If this was a pattern I'd be inclined to react as you have, but he's fairly new at this and still figuring this out. He has apologized, and I hope you'll accept it.

Leon, I appreciate you reviewing exteriors and what not, but you need to go about it in a more official and proper manner. Nemon has already corrected your tone, but you also need to actually become an official reviewer. In my time I've not actually promoted an exterior reviewer, nor had anyone ask for a test. Haplo, Tyrion, and Nemon have always handled it. I recommend talking to nemon about an actual official promotion. (or perhaps I should talk with nemon, I don't know.) Point is, you aren't actually a reviewer. Also, actual reviewers fix the things they find as they find them.

It's time we actually bury this thread somewhere, really. It has caused enough trouble over the years.
Leon, I didn't mean to stop your (actually constructive and useful) reviews... I was probably overreacting, I've gone through a lot with this damn city and was actually assuming I'd be done with it. Sry.

First of all, Scamp, this looks truly awesome. Likely one of the crown jewels of TR! Based on how great this looks (judging by the screenshots) and how consistently spectacular your other uploads have been, you have to take a 'negative' review with a grain of salt :P

Second, this is why I never liked reviews that are nothing more than a list of errors found by the modder. They are quite impersonal, and can easily be taken the wrong way. A review should be a way to help make an upload better, with constructive criticisms and suggestions, instead of a means of trophy hunting for the reviewer.

Freedom choked in dread we live

I disagree there, but I am used to the reviewing forums not being available to non-reviewers.

Reviews should be impersonal notes on errors, since the errors should be fixed by the reviewer just after. Commentaries at the end are where praise and insult should go. I shall refrain from commenting too much on the misformatting of reviews, except to say that there is a reviewing panel for a reason and that it is probably unavailable to non-reviewers.

By the reviewer system I still go by, modders are never supposed to see the reviews. They would be getting the list in a PM should the file be sent back. I am of course, just a grumpy madman.

Suggestions and constructive criticism should be kept for when the file is just that bad that those things are needed. Usually, a simple list of errors and commentary-praise is just fine.

Reviews are supposed to be a list of errors with commentary at the end, as andres said. This is to be more efficient. There is not to be commentary during the errors.

Also, seriously, I know we made reviewing visible to non-modders, but when the hell did we make it so they could post.

What non-modder posted? I see all TR Modders here so far.

It is probably time for this to get the last fixes and an approval from them. :P
Me, usually. But as awesome and creative as this claim is, there are tons of tiny tweaks that need to be made during my final review/fix (which I already started on, a while ago) before the claim is considered "finished" (aka playable without errors of walking, having to jump in some places, spying a bleeder or a floater, etc.). I don't know if Leon's errors are ones that I have already seen or not, but I will address his list of errors after I finish the regular final review.

Leon: While we do appreciate the error reports (as people have stated already), unless you are a reviewer we prefer you wait until a beta testing thread is opened for the respective area. That way we can keep the system going without hick-ups such as this.
