M3A2 Detailing/NPCing

Post by Yeti »

Includes the Temple Stronghold of Almas Thirr, the Indoril Manor Estate of Roa Dyr, the farming village of Dondril and the surrounding countryside.

------------------------------

Aeven has talked about wanting to do some CS work, so I'm opening this up for him to make the following changes. Aeven, please start with the non-Roa Dyr work to give people time to provide feedback on my latest map.

-Convert Roa Dyr into an Indoril Manor Estate for Draler Ilvi. The general concept should preserve the city's canal design, while condensing it and giving it the look of a castle stronghold. Use this map as general inspiration, but try to improve on the layout. Follow this concept for further inspiration:
Sload wrote:Roa Dyr is the castle-estate of Indoril Draler Ilvi. It is a large castle on the Thirr, made up of several keeps separated by canals.

Adjustments: This is the biggest change on this list; Roa Dyr goes from being a town to a castle. A large castle, and still featuring the canals everyone likes. Also the Ilvi manor gets deleted, and there are other ints around the Thirr River Valley that need to be changed.

This is an attempt to reconcile what people like about Roa Dyr (the canal-look) with what we need from an MH style settlement in that location. It will continue to clearly identify this area as Indoril - more clearly, in fact, because the buildings will be big and tall - and continue to look nice, while also fitting in with the larger design goals for House Indoril.
- Remove Ilvi's current manor estate, though copy the buildings (preserving their layout) into a new interior cell in case we want to use the same manor elsewhere.
-Move the Temple in Roa Dyr to the current location of Ilvi manor, or somewhere closer to Dondril.
- Remove Dondril's cobbled-together inn and replace it with a Velothi building. Read this threadand consider following Gnomey or Sload's last posts. Consider removing the outdoor sitting area as well.
-Remove the MH buildings to the west of Dondril and replace them with appropriate Velothi ones.
-The exterior-only OM ruins in (10,-23) could use improvement.

Do not touch NPCs unless they get in the way of placing exterior objects. Do not touch Almas Thirr. Furthermore, do not clean out any interiors.

I'll start doing work on this within the next couple of days! I imagine this to be done quickly once I'm done with finals on Friday! :)

Edit:

Yeti, are you sure about those MH buildings west of Dondril? When I originally placed them there, they were intended to be the home of a minor lord.

My understanding of the current Indoril Proposal is that they only live in Castle Estates and Almalexia and don't have small wilderness manors. Ask Sload to take a look at them.

Better wait on Roa Dyr for a little bit until we can decide on a proper layout/concept.

How do people feel about placing a TR_ex_v_monastery in the old location of the Ilvi estate, as opposed to just the Dondril temple as a tiny complex?

why do we want to put anything there

EDIT: what i mean is: oh, i am not excited about having to figure out what makes this monastic order different from the two dozen other monastic orders i have to distinguish from one another because someone playing with the ext in the CS wanted to put a cool building here instead of just making it wilderness or at least a farm that doesn't require any creative resources to justify (this is the cause of every monastic order that exists in TR except the one at kogotel afaik)

I have to agree with Sload. Monasteries require too much special attention to characterize in-game. We should keep the area relatively low-key. The Thirr River Valley already feels crowded with Almas Thirr and Roa Dyr.

Do we still want a Temple close to Dondril? It doesn't necessarily have to sit on the site of Ilvi's old manor.

How's progress on this Aeven? Do you have a file? Not asking you to stop working on this, but we're probably going to need your latest so we can merge it with A3 into the new section file, after which you can continue to work on it.

If someone else wants to work on this, they're free to do so. I haven't done anything worthy of posting yet.

Anyone who wants to work on this file can try their hand at turning Roa Dyr into a castle estate. I believe the following criteria covers what we want from it:

-It needs to look like a castle - not a fortified town.
-It needs tall imposing towers.
-It needs to preserve the canals everyone loves about the city.

Read this thread and this thread for inspiration and general direction.

This is now deprecated, and merged into the new Indoril-Thirr section file. All work is to be done there now.
