Require Assistance

Post by HungryLesbian »

Where do I go to learn how to help in terms of writing and scripting quests, dialogue, in-game books, and various other writing-related things? And can anyone teach me how to use Morrowind's Construction set so that I can try to help with interior and exterior cell designing. Thank you.

Okay, so now I've tried installing TR and everything went to shit because I have Windows 8.1 (I'm guessing). Seeing that I lost my save again, and I've nothing else to lose, I want to know how to get TR working, because I tried uninstalling Morrowind and reinstalling it outside of Program Files (x86), but it wouldn't let me, and everything is just a mess at this point because I'm an idiot. No one will read this, which is okay, I guess, but help would be appreciated.

Okay, let's start from the beginning. Do you have an installation of Morrowind without any mods that works at the moment? If not, how far did you get in the uninstall/reinstall progress, and what kind of errors did you get?

If you do have a working installation of Morrowind, you need to download TR_Data and TR_Mainland.
Place all the files in your Morrowind Data Folder.
After that, you'll need to register the TR_Data .bsa file. To do that, open Morrowind.ini and look for [Archives]. You'll find 2 archives listed like this:
[Archives]
Archive 0=Tribunal.bsa
Archive 1=Bloodmoon.bsa
You'll need to add the following text under there: "Archive 2=TR_Data.bsa". Then save the file.
After that, start "Morrowind Launcher.exe". Click on Data Files, and make sure all the files are checked. Once that's done, just hit OK and start playing.
The death of vanilla Morrowind will end this prophecy and unite all Morrowind fans again under one mod, one faith, one rule by our divine project. The puppet Morrowind overhaul mods will lay down their arms and bow to our will. Those who do not yield will be destroyed.

I reinstalled Morrowind, Tribunal, and Bloodmoon. Oddly, when I did this I found all my saves intact, so that means I probably buggered up somewhere else and left some files existing. What's worse, I could edit the INI file before, but with the reinstall I am told I am not allowed. Of course, I did completely screw up with the uninstalling process because the launcher wouldn't let me do it properly, and basically I'm not even sure if it's a mess that can be fixed at all because I'm too stupid with computers.

I followed all the directions correctly the first time, yet I got the mesh error. I moved it out of my Program Files (x86) folder, yet still got the error, and when I put the files into the Morrowind data files, no message prompted me to merge files like the readme said it would. And then the esm files wouldn't appear for me to check them off at first, until I shuffled some files around (maybe that's where I fucked up, but at this point I have no idea). Then I got mesh errors, despite having relocated my Morrowind files which would usually fix the problem like the readme said. Strangely my new install works okay.

I don't know. I'm just too much of a failure to even succeed at a simple mod install even after following every direction to the letter.

I think I may have not download some necessary files. I downloaded from the Nexus mod site. What are all the files I need to have? And while I'm here, I'd love to contribute with writing dialogue and such, because clearly my ineptitude with installing this mod means I'd be pretty useless modding for it. How would a showcase thread work for only writing?

I've read some precedents in the showcase thread. While being an utter newbie here and thus would advice to take anything I say with a grain of salt, go ahead and see a post or two described as a writing showcase. Won't hurt at least, eh, and maybe a case of how someone else has done it is more informative than a list of do's and don'ts.

/e darn phone causes me to typo :(

Writers do not have to go through the typical showcase process, you can just start contributing to the dialogue threads, writing an in-game book and posting it in the Literature forum, etc.
We are currently working on updating our information for new members.
That being said, you're still welcome to make a showcase thread so that we can keep track of your contributions and provide general feedback. Really, promotion to developer is currently mostly a formality; you're not really missing out on anything as a member.

As for the files you need to have, TR_Data is the main file and can be downloaded here. You can download most of our landmass files here. The downloads for the actual areas we are working on are here and here; note that in those threads the files in the first post are the oldest files, so don't download those.

Thank you. I did download that file, but I guess I just messed it up because my Internet sucks and it can't do anything right.I've kind of been feeling unmotivated about trying to install it again and the whole writing thing, but I'll try. I might have a showcase up sometime soon, anyway.
