The Golden Guar [On Haitus]
The Golden Guar: Part I
By Gidiron Yoiua
Forward: Taking a break from my normal documentary I have decided to write a story based in a mythical land much like Morrowind, A world where light and dark constantly collide in epic battles, this story is about a young boy not involved yet in the war. He comes across a magical creature in a cave and changes the face of this world forever.
We set our scene in a small town much like Balmora called Keios. Keios is a small walled town near the front line of fighting. All children from this town grow up to be solders in the never-ending war of that Dark and Light races. The land is scarred with the pains of battle. Keios is home to both elves and humans as they fight with the ‘beast’ races. The town itself is low stocked and the people are poor, most people join the army because they have to, to support their family.
Our main character is a young Nord by the name of Loreic, Loreic is twelve and will soon be called upon to fight in the war, and his mother doesn’t want this fate to befall his son so she hired members of the Thieves Guild to take the boy away in the cover of night. But monsters attacked the Thieves, and the boy was left alone, still asleep. Soon he awoke, wondering where he was.
“Where am I?†Loreic says slowly, getting up from where he was thrown during the attack. He looked around, this area was not like he was used to, the grass was green, it was quiet the only thing heard being birds, he could tell he was no where near his town or the war. “This place, the sounds of fighting are not accustomed life is so tranquil.†He says walking toward a stream of water, “The water is not poisoned by hate, and the birds sing a load happy tune,†He says taking a drink from the stream, he was right to be so astonished, the only life he was accustomed too was war, near his town there was an almost blighted land, drained by eons of fighting.
There was an old folk tale in his land long before himself and the war; it stated that the giver of life, or the Golden Guar. The Golden Guar was said to live in the plants, animals and people of the entire land. A book was written by the great scholars, long forgotten by the people, it was called The Book Of The Given…
--- --- --- --- ---
Part II
After rising for the stream he looked up, and thought he saw a glimmer of gold in the corner of his eye, at first he ignored it, but then as he tried to figure out a way to get home he kept on seeing it. Soon he decided it was time to head down the nearby road back to his home village of Keios, Loreic although not truly wanting to return knew he had no other choice, he had no known relatives, or out side friends. The small village of Keios was like their whole world, they knew not of the things beyond the walls, bar of the war.
Loreic’s mother however tried to teach her son the basics of the outside world, she was one of few who even remember when the war started and she, after seeing her father and two brothers die in the war didn’t want the same to happen to Loreic so she taught him in secret, risking her life.
Loreic decided to walk in the direction he ‘felt was right’ and decided to keep going no matter what to get home. As he walked down the road he kept on seeing the glimmers of gold but he ignored them. Soon he reached the boarder of his land the tarnished landscape lay before him, he was going to go back home, until he saw a particular trail of gold. This train was gold, but it had blood mixed in with it, this was the first tome he’d actually seen the gold for more than a few seconds, curious he changed his direction, heading into the mountains,
The trail of blood led to a small cave, and a glimmering was seen from within, without a fear Loreic walked into the cave, which came out into a chamber, in the chamber a small pedestal stood and next to that, the Golden Guar…

Part III
As Loreic approached the wounded creature the entrance to the cave closed up and the room went dark, the only light remaining being a torch near the pedestal. As he walked closer he saw a book on the pedestal.
He went down to look at the guar, but all it did was point its large face toward the tomb. Understanding, Loreic read the front of the book. The Book of the Given… Looking at the title, Loreic began to read from the old torn pages. The book itself was much older than it should have been. Slowly Loreic started to read from the pages.
Long ago, before the empires of light and dark before life itself there was a single being, the one who made all on this planet, The Golden Guar. This benevolent creature although not creating the stars and moons created something greater, life. He trailed many species on his world to help him care for his world but soon life was at its fullest, so the Golden Guar decided to go to sleep knowing he could trust his people with the task ahead of them.
The Guar went to sleep in all living things, Plants, Animals and People, all sharing a part of him as he slept. It was said by the prophets that war and violence towards people would kill the part of him inside them, and thus would kill a part of the sleeping creator.
The Golden Guar can live if the kills are justified, like hunting and gathering but if a war was to break out, the guar would be no more, and the world would never live true beauty again. So far war has never happened, and the guar is safe, but if you have entered this chamber it appears it has. Humans may only enter the place of the Golden Guar if he or she has a pure heart and a great war has broken out, Take the Stone of the Golden Guar and try to stop this war, before the creator dies.
The book ended there, Loreic didn’t know what to think, so he looked to the guar, he saw the guar was in pain, blood streaming from its face and tail, life and being flowing out of it. Around its neck he saw a small stone on a chain; it was glowing red, then green, then yellow, then blue, then black. Every time it hit either red, yellow or black the guar took pain. Despite the pain the Guar walked over to a wall, which opened as he approached. Loreic just followed, knowing that was where he had to go.
--- --- --- --- ---
Part IV
As Loreic looked out from the cliff face he saw the war, with every plant destroyed and every person slaughtered the stone hit black, for every time an animal drunk the poisoned water the stone turned red, and for every time smoke covered the sun, it shun yellow. He knew what he had to do stop the war, but how? He grabbed the stone from around the guars neck and put it on himself. Every time a plant was destroyed it hit black, every time an animal drunk the poisoned water it hit red and every time the smoke of the war covered the sun the stone turned yellow.
Slowly he walked down the cliff, with the guar next to him, Loreic was in great pain, and he couldn’t last much longer. He felt the pain the guar was feeling. Just then another army braved the battlefield. And the fighting begun, Loreic screamed in pain for every sword that cut though the soft flesh of life, but as he reached the center of the battlefield, slowly the fighters stopped.
Both armies watched as the small boy started to speak. “Everyone, stop this fighting! You’re killing the creator!†At that point the book flied out of the cliff face and opened above the boy. From inside the words started to move and glow as the guar just starred forward, he had gotten too close to the ruins of war…
Soon the guar let out a huge cry, and the book started to glow. Seeing this both armies put down their weapons, the Golden Guar had died, and soon all the solders started to cry, cry about what they’d done. With this new remorse the stone started to glow a golden color and it rose from the boy’s neck, which was now greatly injured. Soon parts of both the guar and the book where sucked into the stone which was now glowing Blue, White, Green and Gold. The stone then started to suck in the tears of remorse, let out by the soldiers.
The stone then stopped glowing and became a small lump of gold. As the people approached the gold ball Loreic slowly picked it up. As Loreic did so a single beam of light went into it from the heavens and then it started it move. There is Loreic’s hand lay a small golden guar…
Needless to say, the great races all stopped fighting and a peace treaty was signed. The guar was made a global icon of peace, and Loreic was in charge of caring for it until it grew big enough to go back to the mountains. The people wrote a new Book of the Given and placed it in the chamber and as the guar grew a small gem like piece fell off it. Everything was returning; both armies, now not fighting, regenerated the land they fought on every day, re-planting trees and getting the poison out of the water.
Two years later, when everything was restored the Golden Guar now fully grown head back off into the mountains, and started sleeping again, the stone emanating only the colors of peace and prosperity.
And as for Loreic, he eventually became the leader of the new united people. He was a good ruler and ruled by what he learned on the Day the Golden Guar Awoke.
