Darconis: Where have all the windows gone?

Post by Neoptolemus »

I was looking at Darconis in the editor earlier trying to find something to claim, and I noticed that a large number of the houses, big and small, have no windows whatsoever. This is really unrealistic; expecially the bigger homes. Is someone going to fix this? And if so, shouldn't it be done fairly soon? Like, before all the interiors are done, since they'll need revamping? ;) I also saw a couple of the stone Nordic houses with bay windows on the outside, which would be impossible to do interiors for unless some new meshes were made. If someone is going to do some new meshes I applaud them, because it would look damn cool. But if not, they really should be removed.

Hate to sound like I'm sh*t stirring, but something had to be said. Who would want to live in a house with no windows? ;)

... which is let "teh mAd MinX0r eRrOr fIXz0R" (me) fIXz0R it up. I can do this in one night, if 'yall want. Problem is, I either delete the windows or delete the architechture-type (make it imperial instead of nord). Which would be better? I personally think changing the architechture, as it strikes me as odd to have nord buildings in central-eastern morrowind. However, I'm guessing many an interior stands done that has this window problem.
I'm almost done with my dwemer "palace" (size is mind-boggling), so when and how I do this, if at all, is up to you guys.

dont change architecture, definitely no! Why don't you just add windows where they are missing?

No the so called 'nord' buildings belong to common architecture. See it as they have been adopted as building style from Nords or something, they just belong in an Imperial/Common city.

As for the windows, I've already done some interiors but adding windows to interior is also very little work and I agree on the fact it will make the city look better. So ÃÂ￾ think it would be a good idea to add the windows.

Oh and by the way, for interiors of ex_nord_ buildings with Bay windows on it, you can use in_com_wincover_01.

Mmh, problem is that just placing windows on the outside can lead to some freaky hard to match interiors and vice versa.

Maybe strip the windows and have interior modders place them? Its aditive so shouldnt be much of a problem.

/edit

the place also needs smoke stacks

While we're on the subject of windows, will illuminating effects be used on windows in Darconis (and tamriel as a whole), for extra atmosphere on a dark night, it's also simply more realistic. Maybe even on taverns and shops, which assumedly stay open all night. I remember a mod adding these kinds of illuminations, worked well.

Yes that Illuminating at night windows mod is great, I use it, it deffinently adds a lot to the looks of the cities. Makes it more alive I think, more windows the better says I.

How does this illuminated windows mod work?
The thing is, I would love to do this with the dres windows.

I think the dedicated man added them manually :? which is much too daunting for something this size I think. Or perhaps he found a clever way of replacing window models with illuminated versions. You'd have to ask him really, I think he was mod_man, or something like that.

There was 2 mods:
1. ModMan's one which added light to the windows
2.Max_aka_Nobody's mod which added glowmaps to the windows.

Max_aka_Nobody's window glow mod is excellent, there's a new version around which has the lights flicker. The glowmap also massively saves on fps, as opposed to the light sources in the other one

It has already been added to the recommended bolt-on list. It is a bolt-on because it affects the original stock Bethesda windows too.
