If Mer means Elf how were the dwarves related... I know the had an honorary house... But how do they tie-in with the elves...

Dwemer aren't really the dwarves we're used to seeing in fantastic movies and books. They actually look like real elves, not fat bearded creatures.

Dwemer stands for Deep Elves. That's their true name. They're commonly called dwarves now because of the Imperial bastardization of the word Dwemer. They were actually as tall as Dunmer and Altmer.
