New Glass Armor

Post by TheGreatDreugh »

What about a type of armor that literally is glass, not just pieces of green glass sticking out everywhere. It could have the ebony mail design but be white or transparent?

1) Armor made of glass (as in real-life glass) would probably shatter from one hit, making it very unconventional.
2) Glass armor wouldn't offer any sort of protection from attacks
3) Your avatar is too large. The size limit is 85x85 pixels.

well i was thinking of making it sort of like a show off thing, that nobles of rich people would ware, it would have low durability yes but it could protect from some attacks such as daggers and light blades, but definetly not two handed swords ands and warhammers

Actually Morrowind glass being volcanic glass is quite durable but even it I think will shatter after one blow when made into armor.

im kinda liking what dreugh is thinking, sort of a show off thing, eye candy almost, the basic design though would have to be something nice. Like the ebony mail, or imperial steel.

But when they make armor don`t they smash it with a hammer to shape it or something?
and glass would possibly be crushed

They wouldn't smash it with a hammer because noone would make it into armor. If it were just to be for show, they would make it how glass-smiths(or whatever they're called) do it.

If someone made armor made of glass, it'd be transparent, right? So is something like this even possible to make (into the game, I mean)? We would need to be able to see whatever the character's wearing under the armor.

Glass in Tamriel isn't like ordinary glass. It is volcanic glass, like obsidian. When Dunmer make glass armor, they stick shards of glass on the end of the armor. My guess is that they would have to carve the armor out of huge chuncks of glass. I don't think glass is too rare in Morrowind, so this has a bit more logic behind it than the Diamond armor idea.

The glass weapons and armor in the game aren't transparant, so it doesn't have to be either. There have been addons to make glass weapons and armor transparant, but the only way this could work for that type of armor (the whole armor being transparant) would be to use the BB style of making clothes.

well why dont we give it a try, how about a white texture for starters, and then we can try to give it a see through texture to see what the player is wearing underneath :?:

It doesnt work that way. The Armour mesh replaces the entire body part area.

New Glass Armor

Post by der gottlose »

what if you did something like this?

http://tinypic.com/2jgkmg

make the glass molten, pour it into a set of cheap but sturdy armor with small ridges, and let that cool. Then repeat in other places until all the small sections are done. Sort of like a jigsaw puzzle...except the board is layed out already and you just have to fill it.

Or is my idea just crap...?

The entire point was that we'd have an armor made of normal glass, which does exist in tamriel (what are the window panes of common houses made of?), instead of the green, volcanic glass already in the game.

However, I think this whole thread is a stupid idea.

I don't think the topic poster was talking about regular glass. He said:

Which makes me believe he didn't know that the glass pieces were not regular glass. I do agree with you however, that this thread is pretty stupid; can you even melt volcanic glass and have it reform as it was before?

'Glass' armor is volcanic glass *mounted* in a metal base.

I actually like this idea. Just a normal armor, like steel, covered in see through glass. Just to show off.
