Hmm... Before I make a decision could you give me more details? Rebelling against what exactly? And why?

Why would they bother? They'd be more likely to just start slaughtering wood elves, IMO.

1. Altmer enjoyed prosperity before the Empire.
2. They are proud and arrogant High Elves.
3. Early in the first era there was much tension and warrin between humans and elves.
4. I read somewhere Altmer were cut off from immortality by humans. If that's true won't they be bitter?
5. What race desires to be subjectated and taxed by another race?

I still can't make a decision, maybe you should do more research and develop this more. I know most of the High Elves on Vvarvenfell dislike it, but don't really feel like doing anything about it. If this is the same for Summerset Isle(That is the province of the High Elves, correct?), then I'd say no.

1. No. They would never waste time rebelling.
2. We aren't even near a point where discussing this is worth it.
3. Didn't this come up before?

1. Wouldn't waste time rebelling? Why? I gave my reasons why they would rebel, what are your reasons why they wouldn't?
2. That is very true.
3. Yes, it did. However this came up before in a very poorly thought out fashion.

for Commonsnat, a brief history of tamriel (1st Era) acquired from www.uesp.net

1E 1 - Camoran Dynasty is founded by King Eplear
Camoran Dynasty of Valenwood is founded by King Eplear. The Wood Elves (Ayleids) of White Gold Tower in the Cyrodiil heartland use this newly formed kingdom as the buffer from the influence of Alinor (Summurset Isle) kingdom. Following this event the White Gold Tower becomes an independent city-state.
1E 143 - King Harald Conquers Skyrim
1E 221 - King Harald Dies
Kind Harald dies and King Hjalmer Takes the throne.
1E 222 - King Hjalmer Dies
King Hjalmer dies and his youngest son, King Vrage the Gifted become the next king.
1E 240 - Skyrim conquers Morrowind and High Rock
1E 242 - Alessia Rebels Against Cyrodiil
Alessia, also known as the Slave Queen, with her followers rebelled against the rule of White Gold Tower. And soon, with the help of Skyrim these 'Allesian Army' eventually conquers the Cyrodiil heartland.
1E 243 - White Gold Tower Falls
1E243 The White Gold Tower finally falls, and the remaining Ayleids seek refuge in the Valenwood's Camoran Dynasty. Some famous human heroes are Morihaus, who leads the attack of White Gold Tower, and Pelinal Whitestrake, who suggests the massacre of the Ayleids.
During the following period 1E 243 to 498, the new kingdom of human, under the rule of Empress Alessia, prospers and rule the nearest kingdoms of Colovia. They slowly build the strong national identity as they slowly become the most populous culture of Tamriel. Later the Empress Allesia creates the new religion of the Eight Divines, based on the religion of the Nords and the former human slaves of White Gold Tower. Also in this period the first Elder Council is formed, and also the first Imperial College of Battlemages.

1E 246 - Founding of Daggerfall City
At this time in history the north half of the Iliac Bay, in fact all of the current province of High Rock, was conquered by invading Nords who brought a rough sort of civilization with them. One of the first civilized acts the Nords performed was a census -- the so-called Book of Life. Listed on page 933 of the Book is this entry:
North of the Highest bluffs, south of the moors, west of the hills, and east of the sea is called DAGGERFALL. 110 men, 93 women, 13 children under 8 years of age, 58 cows, 7 bulls, 63 chickens, 11 cocks, 38 hogs live here.
The last census, in the year 3E 401, lists the population at over 110,000.
1E 266 - Empress Alessia Becomes First Saint
Shezarr, the missing sibling god of the Eight Divines, arrives at the White Gold Tower in the Imperial City and transforms the dying Alessia into the first of the Cyrodilic saints. Thus Empress Alessia becomes the first gem in the Cyrodilic Amulet of Kings. The Elder Council elects Belharza the Man-Bull as the second Emperor of Cyrodiil.
1E 355 - Rise of Clan Direnni

1E 358 - Cyrodiil Army Attacks Direnni
The joined army of Cyrodiil, under Emperor Ami-El, and Skyrim Empire attacks the Clan Direnni in the Western Reach of High Rock.
1E 361 - Alessian Doctrines Enforced
The Alessian Doctrines enforced throughout Cyrodilic Heartland and northern Tamriel. The Alessian Doctrines are the very strict religious teachings of the monkey prophet, Marukh. Maruhk reportedly receives painful visions from ghost of the Slave-Queen Alessia, calling for a worldwide overthrow of Elven rule and a suppression of the Elven elements of the Eight Divines. They enforce strict codes of behavior which preclude most forms of entertainment
1E 369 - King Borgas Dies
King Borgas of Winterhold is killed on the Wild Hunt starting the Skyrim War of Succession in the region of Daggerfall and the start of the decline of the Nordic empire. The war is ended in 1E 420 with the Pact of Chieftains.
1E 376 - Traditional Emperors Overthrown
The traditional rule of emperors had been overthrown in 2012 in the old way of reckoning, and although each successive emperor remained the figurehead of the empire, his powers were very much reduced. The Redguard our people saw 300 years of almost continuous civil war between the provincial lords, warrior monks and brigands, all fighting each other for land and power before the appearance of the hero Hunding.
1E 401 - Chimer and Dwemer Unite
The Indoril Nerevar and Dumac Dwarfking unite the Chimer and Dwemer of Morrowind against the occupying forces of Skyrim, finally pushing the Nords out in 1E 416.
1E 416 - Nords Driven Out of Morrowind
Nords are driven out of Morrowind by the uniting of the Chimer and Dwemer. Resdayn is founded as a result. Nerevar and Dumac unanimously are elected as Leaders of the first Council of Resdayn. Resdayn flourishes under the leadership of Dumac and Nerevar. Peace among the Chimer, and between the elves and the dwarves, brings an unprecedented prosperity and flowering of both cultures.
1E 416 - Dark Elves Appear in Written Record
The Dark Elves appear in the written record in 1E 416 during the War of Succession which destroyed the First Empire of the Nords.
And seeing that the Nords were divided, and weak, the Dunmer took counsel amoung themselves , and gathered together in their secret places, and plotted against the kinsmen if Borgas, and suddenly arose, and fell upon the Nords, and drove them from the land of Dunmereth with great slaughter.
1E 420 - Skyrim War of Succession Ends
The Skyrim War of Succession ends with the Pact of Chieftans. The war resulted in Skyrim losing control of the High Rock, Morrowind, and Cyrodiil regions, never again to regain them.

1E 482 - Battle of Glenumbria Moors
Date of the battle between the Alessian Order and the Direnni Elves of High Rock, under the command of Aiden Direnni. The order was soundly defeated by the Elves at the cost of much of the Elven power in High Rock. The Elves were finally defeated by the Cyrodiil Empire in 1E 498.
1E 498 - Elven Power in High Rock Defeated
The Elves of High Rock, after losing much power in the Battle of Glenumbria Moors against the Alessian Order, finally were driven from High Rock almost 20 years later in 1E 498.
1E 500 - Elven Power in High Rock Defeated
Around the year 1E 500, the province of Skyrim, under King Wulfharth (Ysmir), submits to a fiery reinstatement of the traditional Nordic pantheon. Alessian temples are destroyed, and remnants of its priesthood seek refuge in the Heartland.
1E 609 - King Thagore Defeats Glenpoint
King Thagore of Daggerfall defeats the army of Glenpoint becoming the preeminant economic, cultural, and military force in southern High Rock. A position the kingdom has precariously kept ever since.
1E 609 - Mansel Sesnit Becomes Elden Yokeda
In 2245 in the old way of reckoning, Mansel Sesnit came to the fore and became the Elden Yokeda, or military dictator of Redguard, and for eight years succeeded in gaining control of almost the whole empire.
1E 617 - Mansel Sesnit Assassinated
Sesnit, military dictator of Redguard since 1E 609, was assassinated in 2253 of the old way of reckoning and a commoner, Randic Torn, took over the government of Redguard.
1E 660 - Battle of Dragon Wall
Mauloch, Orcish god of the Velothi Mountains, was defeated at the Battle of Dragon Wall and fled east.
1E 668 - Vvardenfell Erupts
The first eruption of Morrowind's gigantic volcano.
1E 700 - Dwarvens Disappear
During 1E 700 the entire Dwarven nation across Tamriel mysteriously disappeared. Although many theories to their disappearance have been put forward, there exists no solid evidence where or why they left.
1E 720 - Frandar Hunding Born
The famous Redguard hero Hunding is born in 2356 of the old way of reckoning.
1E 734 - Frandar Hunding's Father Dies Hunding's father died when Hunding was 14 in the one of the many insurrections, and was left to support his mother and four brothers.
1E 737 - Randic Torn Dies
Torn, the emperor of Redguard, dies after 120 years of rule.
1E 760 - Divad Hunding Born

1E 776 - Divad Hunding Becomes an Acrobat
Divad Hunding, frustrated by his fathers absence, quits his training at the Hall of the Virtues of War and became a circus acrobat (later to become a notable bard).
1E 780 - Hunding Writes the Books of Circles
Frandar Hunding, thinking himself invincible, became a hermit retiring to a cave in the mountains of high desert to write his philosophy of the Way of the Sword in the BOOK OF CIRCLES.
1E 800 - Earliest Date of Wayrest City
It is difficult for historians to declare a certain date for the foundation of Wayrest. A settlement of some variety had been existence where the Bjoulsae River feeds the Iliac Bay possibly since the 800th year of the First Era. The traders and fishermen of Wayrest were surrounded by hostile parties: the orc capitol Orsinium had grown like a poison weed to the north, and the Akaviri pirates and raiders crowded the islands to the west. There is no mystery to Wayrest's name. After the fighting most travellers had to endure passing through the eastern end of the Iliac Bay, the little fishing village on the Bjoulsae was a welcome rest.
1E 808 - Redguards Arrive in Hammerfall
Although occuring several thousand years ago, the arrival of the Redguards, or Yokudan's as they were then known, into Hammerfall from their homeland is well recorded. The warrior wave of Yokudan or "Ra Gada" drive the beastfolks and the Nedic settlement out of the land. From "Ra Gada" the Yokudans later got the name Redguard; and they claimed Hammerfell as their homeland. The beastfolk refugees escape from Hammerfell and join the orcs at Orsinium.
1E 948 - Earliest Written Reference to Wayrest
In the Annals of Daggerfall, King Joile's letter to Gaiden Shinji of the Order of Diagna contains the following reference: The orcs have been much plaguing the Wayresters and impeding traffic to the heart of the land. The date given for the letter was 1E 948.
1E 950 - Assault on Orsinium Begins
The annihilation of the orcish capitol Orsinium was begun by the joint effort of Daggerfall, the new kingdom of Sentinel, and the now extinct Order of Diagna. It took constant effort over 30 years to finally drive the orcs out.
1E 973 - Memory Stone of Makela Leki Found
The memory stone of Makela Leki was found in the Bankorai pass, in the year of reckoning 1E 973. Its contents have been written in the book From The Memory Stone of Makela Leki. Makela and her five companions died defending against an invasion led by King Joile of Daggerfall sponsered by the Crystal Tower of High Rock.
1E 980 - Orcish Capitol Orsinium Defeated
The annihilation of the orcish capitol Orsinium by a joint effort of Daggerfall, the new kingdom of Sentinel, and the now extinct Order of Diagna. The scattering of the orcs from southeastern High Rock made the river route to the Bay more accessible. The tiny village of Wayrest grew like a flower that no longer feared the mow. Within time Wayrest profits equalled Daggerfall's and eventually Wayrest was the acknowledged the master of Iliac Bay trade.
1E 1029 - Herta Expands Cyrodiil
Empress Herta of Cyrodiil strengthens the Colovian West and expand the border of Cyrodiil Empire to High Rock. The relations with Skyrim improve a bit.
1E 1100 - Kingdom of Wayrest Created

1E 1427 - Battle of Duncreigh Bridge
The battle between Anticlere and the neighbouring hamlet of Sensford. It is celebrated each year by Anticlere by a march down Sensford's main street, usually resulting in many injuries and sometimes brief wars by the towns knightly orders. The battle ultimately acheived nothing as both sides continue to boast of their own antique lineage.
1E 2200 - Thrassian Plague
A brutal plague which decimated more than half of Tamriel's population, especially near the western coastlands nearest to Thras. The plague was released by the Sload of the coral kingdom of Thras which were later destroyed by the All Flags Navy.
1E 2702 - Wayrest City Moves to Gardners Estate
In 1E 2702, the entire population of the city was forced to move into the walled estate of the Gardners as protection against the pirates, Akaviri raiders, and Thrassian plague?.
1E 2703 - Akaviri Invasion
The Akaviri invade Cyrodiil causing the final unification of the West Colovian's and the East of the Nibenay Valley by the rallying of Reman I. The unified army defeats the Akaviri at the Pale Pass of Skyrim. 1E 2790 - Tjurhane Fyrre Born
The great Ayleid (Wild Elf) sage Tjurhane Fyrre was born. 1E 2813 - Cyrodiilic Becomes Official Language
Cyrodilic becomes the language of all legal documents, replacing High Elven. Cyrodilic is the ancestor of modern Tamrielic language. 1E 2837 - Province of Black Marsh Created
The Second Empire succeeds in seizing a large part of the swamplands of Argonia to create the province of Black Marsh. Its provincial status was revoked after the dissolution of the Second Empire.

Commons never asked for a complete timeline of the first era, but thankyou. There I read very little about the Altmer, but a reasonably large amount about the Ayleids, the closest race to the Aldmer.

As for your reasoning:

1. So? That doesn't mean they don't now.
2. So? (I mean no offense to any Canadians) A lot of Quebec folk are supposed to be arrogant of the other provinces, but only a handful of them are violent about it.
3. Not the Altmer, as I said. Those are a completely different type of elves who we know don't do any significant damage, but probably could.
4. You read wrongly, or read a false tale.
5. None. So why aren't the Redguard, Breton, Nords, Dunmer, Argonians, Khaajiit, and Bosmer jumping up to revolt. The Redguard and Dunmer are actually more likely. Actually, I think the Redguard did. And you know what? I think they lost.

Now my reasoning:

1. Because they live just fine. The Altmer consider themselves "above" the Empire. Who cares what goes on in that distant city?
2. Glad we agree. Dexter already said this kind of thing is just an excercise in futility. (Something I would've heard cries of "rude!" for saying, but he's earned it I guess)
3. Just checking.

A Redguard named Cyrus lead a rebellion against the Empire and they won. Now Hammerfell is not free, but the terms of the truce were greaty improved for the Redguards.

I thought they might've, but I know they didn't get what they wanted.

Another thing: the altmer can't rebel unless it's in Oblivion. The Altmer rebellion would be going on or just over in oblivion, and if you didn't hear anything about it that would be just plain stupid.

But anyways, this is an irrelevant conversation. I'm done.

Tharn's interference broke the momentuum, but the years since then have proven that the glorious golden age of Tiber Septim may be visited on Tamriel once again.

3E 405 - Cameron Dies
Another misterious character is sent by Uriel Septim VII to investigated the death of King Lysandus and to find the missing letter the Emperor sent to the Queen of Daggerfall.
3E 427 - Morrowind Blight Curse Begins
In 3E 427 the Morrowind government, with an already weakened authority by questions of authority, was further threatened by the re-awakening of the ancient curse of the Blight from the giant volcano Red Mountain, or "Dagoth-Ur". This is also the date when the legendary unknown stranger first came to Morrowind's shores.

Point 1, is highly relevent. The Altmer once ruled large parts of Tamriel. In addition they live a very long time, it is within living memory of the Altmer that the Altmeri Dominion was still in full swing and ruled SE Tamriel. And the High Elves value their history (and it has not been that many generations) and will not forget when they ruled High Rock and Cyrodiil.

Point 2 is not at all relevent. Sloads assement is spot on in how this plays in the scheme of things.

Point 3 is relevent as there has been much conflict between the Humans and the Altmer (and a lot more recently than the first age, the Altmeri Dominion fought the Empire for much of the second age).

Thane refers to the following description of Auri-El on point 4:
TIL wrote:The Elven Akatosh is Auri-El. Auri-El is the soul of Anui-El, who, in turn, is the soul of Anu the Everything. He is the chief of most Aldmeri pantheons. Most Altmeri and Bosmeri claim direct descent from Auri-El. In his only known moment of weakness, he agreed to take his part in the creation of the mortal plane, that act which forever sundered the Elves from the spirit worlds of eternity. To make up for it, Auri-El led the original Aldmer against the armies of Lorkhan in mythic times, vanquishing that tyrant and establishing the first kingdoms of the Altmer, Altmora and Old Ehlnofey. He then ascended to heaven in full observance of his followers so that they might learn the steps needed to escape the mortal plane.
\

and this one on Lorkhan:
TIL wrote:This Creator-Trickster-Tester deity is in every Tamrielic mythic tradition. His most popular name is the Aldmeri 'Lorkhan', or Doom Drum. He convinced or contrived the Original Spirits to bring about the creation of the mortal plane, upsetting the status quo-- much like his father Padomay had introduced instability into the universe in the Beginning Place. After the world is materialized, Lorkhan is separated from his divine center, sometimes involuntarily, and wanders the creation of the et'Ada. He and his metaphysical placement in the 'scheme of things' is interpreted a variety of ways. In Morrowind, for example, he is a being related to the Psijiic Endeavor, a process by which mortals are charged with transcending the gods that created them. To the High Elves, he is the most unholy of all higher powers, as he forever broke their connection to the spirit plane. In the legends, he is almost always an enemy of the Aldmer and, therefore, a hero of early Mankind.
Point 5 is a motivation but not really that important as it applies equally to all races under the Imperial heel.

In summary I would consider the Altmer one of the more rebellious races, in part becasue they have a history as a large, well organised, soveriegn state. They are one of the two beligerent nations that the Empire conquered by non-traditional means and I expect the Empire to be much weaker there than in other provinces (the other province I see as having weak Imperial authority is Morrowind).

But the trumping matter in this respect is the fact that all of this occurs on Summerset, which is several years, to several decades away.

Starcrunch and Sload I have an idea.

If someone can figure out where Summerset Isle would be located on the grid, I can work on it (after acquiring a load of source material) and if my work was good enough and true enough to lore, TR could use it.

Time to air a dirty, little CS problem...

The further one gets from the cell (0,0) the more pronounced a "glitch" (it's not even really a glitch, in the strictest since) that causes the game world to "shake" becomes. Summerset falls into the category of loactions way too far from (0,0) to ever be playable  .

This is one of the major glitches that many of us hope TES4: Oblivion will solve in terms of building the continent...

Starcrunch has the technical reason, now here is the lore reason:
If the Altmer rebelled, the Imperial Legion would steamroller them. They simply do not have the resources to go fist-to-fist with the Empire. Hell, even the Dunmer, with the Tribunal, at the time when their powers were much greater than they were when you met them in TES3, were not able to stop the Imperial Legion by force, and had to revert to diplomacy (and they still got the short end of the stick).

Yeah well the Empire has eight divines, the Tribunal has three, all of which can be owned by a level 50 player. It is possible for the Altmer to succeed because their province is an island and because the Empire is concerned with Uriel's poor health.

It is important that you do not get lore confused with gameplay. In game terms, the Morrowind main quest was designed for level 20-30 players, Tribunal for 30-40, and Bloodmoon for 40-50. So, Dagoth Ur, the greatest threat to Morrowind ever, is designed to be killed by a fairly standard character. We know that powergamers can reach level 75 in two days, but forget all that.
The Tribunal, at the height of their power, defeated Molag Bal. Not his army, not a pansy avatar, the real deal. Molag Bal, in the flesh, was defeated by the Tribunal. That should give you a pretty good sense of their power.
And the problem is that Summerset Isle would have a more prominent Imperial presence than Morrowind. Forts would be more common, and a rebellion would be easier to squash.
"Hail Dexter."

I don't think that would matter still. They may be concerned, but I'm sure they have enough might to make up for that. I mean, it's not like the whole army's going to be at his bed making sure he's okay. How else do you think the Imperials continue to colonize Vvarvenfell?

But like Starcruch said, it will be impossible to do Summerset Isle.

The Empire needed Numidia to conquer the Altmer (which is why they cut a deal with the Dunmer), they were unable to do it by force of arms alone. I think you're likely correct, Dexter, that the legion could win, but if they were pushed from Summerset quickly and by suprise, I don't know...it would depend on the sort of naval resources the Altmer have at their disposal at the outset. The Empire does not have Numidia to fall back on.

As I see it the Altmer strategy would be to strike suddenly and simultaneously at the major Imperial garrisons on Summerset, this is no small challenge as the Imperials probably very dense in the areas they control (i.e. rather than many smaller forts, I thinkthey would have several major garisons, if they were just many smaller forts this could be done more esaily). But there is more too it than that, they would also have to cut off and destroy the intial Imperial reinforcements that would try to arrive by sea (probably from the ports in the Clovian West of Cyrodil Province). This would provide the Altmer time to consolidate their gains and mop up the smaller Imperial garrisons. At this stage the Altmer have thrown the game into a naval conflict that is very reminisent of the conflict of the 2nd age (and one that at least at sea the Altmer were acknowledged as superior).

Now there are many things that could go wrong in such a scenario:
1.) If the Imperials know about the scheme before hand it's over.
2.) If the Altmer lack naval forces at the outset it's over.
3.) I any large Imperial garrison defeats the initial attack, it gets much harder.
4.) If the Altmer naval forces fail to interdict the Imperial reinformants the cause is lost.
5.) The Altmer have to win nearly every initial fight, the Imperials have to win only a handful.

If we ever did Summerset on the Oblivion engine, do you think this could possibly end up tieing in with the MQ? I'm not exactly sure what's going on with that, but if the TR MQ is the first post in the sticky for TR MQ then this could tie in.

Somehow britain came to my mind. i'ts very much like summerset isle.
And there is only one known invasion ever to succeed on british ground :).
So yes, I do think if the Altmer succeed in kicking out the empire from their land that they will be able to hold it for quite a long time. You also said the emperor is sick or weak. In that case he wouldnt be doing anything radical like a huge invasion on summerset isle.

So even though it might be against lore, it is possible for the Altmer I think.

I don't think any of us are arguing about its lore complications, just it's possibility and probability.

Yeah I didn't use the right words here. I meant the chances of such a rebellion are slim. Only when the imperials do something to really upset the Altmer will this happen I think.

Okay, who would win in a fight?

A. An uber-mage Altmer

or

B. An uber-census taker Imperial

it's kind of obvious that the Imperials would be owned
"We are the Knights who say-NI!"
"Now bring us a shrubbery"
"A nice one, but...not too expensive..."

I voted no, because without something sudden happening that directly effects Summerset Isle, there would be no sense in an Altmer rebellion. And why specifically Summerset Isle, anyways? There are quite a few other provinces with a percentage of the population just as pissed, if not more, I can assure you.
Cinsurly,

For I was there, and fought and cried,
And tasted blood and thunder.
I stood in line with mace and shield
As Dunmer clan slew Dunmer.

... And Skyrim and Argonia and Cyrodil and...

Anyways, if/when we get to Summerset, it might be a good idea to incorporate into the TR MQ, though I'm still in the dark on whether the first post on the "TR Main Quest" sticky is the one we're using.
