Rich Dunmer Desk

Post by Dexter »

Something that always bothered me about the Dunmer furniture is that there is no desk done in a rich style. I think this is simply because Bethesda had no need for one, as all the desks are in areas with poor furniture. However, for TR, I think a Dunmer-style desk done to match the rich Dunmer furniture would add a lot to the project.
I was just looking at some Necrom Manor interiors, and noticed that it is full of rich furniture, except for the desk, which seems out of place. It is a shame, since it detracts (very slightly, but still) from an otherwise excellent interior job.
If anyone out there could take the time to throw together a rich Dunmer-style desk, I think it would be very helpful for the modders out there. It is small details like this, doing things Bethesda looked over, that will add the real magic to the project.

Any new interior mesh like this would be great. I would also request new common/imperial desks, poor and rich since these are not in the game but would fit perfectly.

Some time ago I posted a thread with a link to kwshipman's retextures of the furniture. It added new furniture to furn_de_r class. And that was a really nice pack.

Here it is. I took basic elements of the rich Dunmer furniture and combined them to make the desk.

Excelent idea, and I agree on the imperial desks as well. It's hard to use tables as desks everywhere a desk would be appropreate partially because the tables are just plain too big in some cases.
Claims completed:
Yashazmus, Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon
Mzankh, Dwemer Ruin
Nchazdrumn, Dwemer Ruin
Sirrilas, Shrine of Mephala
Moriken, Abandoned Dunmer Stronghold
Old Necrom Morag Tong GH
Darconis Diamond Mine
Assorted other boring claims.

I will do some sketches of Imperial style desks too, in rich and poor styles. Probably by tomorrow afternoon(ish).

Probably a bump. Dex do you think a retexture of original Dunmer desk would to the job ?

The biggest problem with the de_p_desk model is the uneven surface (I think that model has uneven surfaces), which a rich desk should not have and retexturing can't cover up. Just my two coppers...

Yeap. I also though of that. But I think a retexture is better than no desk at all.

Nope. It never ended up in OoT and probably lost on my HDD. Not that hard to do it again though. Anyway Asylum maybe you can work your meshing magic and do us a new mesh ?

So would I. Dexter's drawing is perfect and I think it won't be too hard to model. Anyone up for this?

A retexture just won't do. The difference between plain and rich Dunmer furniture is way too huge for that. And the uneven surfaces are getting more annoying by the day. I'll bless the day we're done with Dunmer interiors and the damned rigid surfaces.

Well I finally got Max myself and Stalker pointed me to this one. I just threw some parts of the Dunmer furniture together and came up with this:

That looks perfect! And it blends seamlessly with bethesda's stuff. I guess that's because you used thier parts

What I wrote: I think it sucks Vegor. Your aesthetic taste is obviously misguided. Have you ever seen a real desk? No I thought not!

What Vegor heard: I think you are God Vegor. I have built a shrine in your honor. I will do everything I can to make people worship you. All hail Vegor!

Very, very nice. But is it just me, or does the bottom set of draws under the tabletop look like the left draw has been cut off at the end?

Nomadic, it looks like that because the drawer sticks out a bit and has a diagonal edge. Here, from a front view you see it's not the case:

I think it looks too short. Maybe compare it with an NPC
to see how tall it would be?

It's the exact same height as a normal table.
