Imperial playing cards

Post by aubustou »

It's only some playing cards(not an entire game, only 6-7 of them) with an imperial dragon back.
Very low poly(only 2 poly per face of a card)
Included a hand of cards.
Enjoy

Why would it use the standard hearts, clubs, spades, and diamonds?

Edit: Other than that, they look really nice. Good work!
In the 550's Byzantine Generals Narses and Liberius were winning battles into their 80's. Retirement programs, though no longer including raping and pillaging, have clearly improved since.

In ancient times, the hearts were replaced with swords. If you can do that, that would be great.

I like the back, but the front looks modeern. You don't have to change the symbpols, just change the font, but swords would look even better.

I agree with you, i used the images from MS Solitary and i don't like this too.
But i didn't have time to redo them.

Swords, Staffs, Bows, and Axes, maybe?

Thankyou so much for doing this, I hope I didn't beg you into it.

All weapons is kinda silly, considering the symbolic nature of the origins of playing cards.
How about swords shields sickles and sapphires? (okay maybe not sapphires, but the rest I thought of coincidentally started with 's', so...

Or maybe we could make like the ancient Islamic people and use Swords, Cups, Coins, and Polosticks

And make sure you use that font, or any other medieval english font, it'll make it look good. Oh here, another example. With the daedric font. (top image is imperial-ish, one below are rare dunmer cards)

Why would dunmer cards be rare in the dunmer homeland?

I meant rare overall. I was talking about the Empire, they're rare in Tamriel, not in morrowind.

So are we going to go with the textures or change them? If someone wants to draw up some art I can convert them to textures.

The playing cards should be less paper white. more like the paper in morrowind with the 'old' look.

I personally am fine with using the ones in the screenshot, though darkening it is a good idea. I don't see any reason they can't happen to have the same kinds of playing cards.

I just think it sort of detracts from the immersion seeing something so recognisable as that. I doubt that was even around in medieval england.

I don't think that's important. Though I would like to see new symbols if anyone feels like doing them. It would just be... I don't know the word. It would be cooler if we were to have different symbols, like dragon, guar, cliff racer, or whatever.

That's like saying the similarities between architectures (particularily western architecture) and real world architectures remove from the immersion. It doesn't. People wont think about it.

Giving them new symbols would add to the immersion, but that's like the difference between 11 and 12. This isn't unimmersive, it's just not as immersive.

I don't mean to be picky, but I don't see the relevance. You're supporting your arguement that "The cards shouldn't be like the real world." with "At a similar time period the cards were different in a real world." The former makes the latter entirely irrelevant.

Im just saying we could use one of those other suits just to look a bit different from the real world. Look at it this way. If you were presented with a $50 bill when you got off the boat instead of the 80 odd gold would you have been annoyed? It does the same...but its just not as immersive as a few coins stamped with an emperors face.

That's why I wanted different symbols, but it's not that important, after all, you could just look at the cards and say, "Wow, cards." And you wouldn't think anything else of it.

Having a new currency is the norm of fantasy games. Cards with new faces aren't.

Yes, it would be better. But the real question is is it better enough to make it worth it? I don't think so, especially when Aubustou has enough things to do. He's translating the mod into French.

It's one of those things that you come across that takes you out of the fantasy world and throws you back into reality. With diferent symbols it would kick you deeper into the fantasy world.
