Kogo'Tel: The Pit

A few ideas I got last night while flossing (most of these came while flossing between incisors and canine teeth... strange coincidence ):
-House Hlaalu is of course an obvious one, but the problem is, they would be suspected too easily. So what they might have done was poison it themselves, but left something behind that would indicate that House Dres was involved (I have kind of an idea of what it would be... but it would be adding to Dres lore a bit). This gets two things accomplished for House Hlaalu:
1. Damages House Redoran
2. May pit Redoran against Dres (not only is this pitting their enemies against each other, but since this may also involve moving Redoran forces across Hlaalu territory, the Hlaalu may force the Redoran to pay some money or something to move warriors across their land).
Of course, the Hlaalu noble/councilor who ordered this must be a little psychotic, but knew that people on the mainland were in no way prepared to defend against the blight. In order to avoid an all out war at the end of the quest, it can simply be said that the Dres are now a suspect of this attack, but it cannot be certain, so therefore, House Redoran takes no action, but tries to further investigate this matter.
errr... now that I think about it... this is my only idea for this...(other than actually having House Dres do the poisoning... but I can't think of why they would) ... thought I had a couple more though, anyway
edit: The only thing I wonder about is: would the Hlaalu be assholes enough to try this? This idea may also be a wee bit too simple too though... since the idea of it being a Hlaalu thing is quite... obvious... plus I haven't quite worked out how the player will figure out that it was the Hlaalu, and their motives behind it... :S

The blight could conceivably be caused by the slave trade. Perhaps while investigating near the water, you find a body labelled Blighted Corpse, a Khajiit with a slave bracer. Near him, there could be another blighted body with a ledger/journal, describing how a blighted rat had stowed away on their ship while on leave in Vvardenfell. That is, of course, if Kogo'tel is close to the sea. I really don't know if it is.
That's actually a really nice idea. The official stance to slavery is somewhat questionable in Morrowind; yes, slavery to a point is legal, yet clearly not 100% (otherwise the majority of slavers wouldn't be hiding in caves or attacking you at first sight.) Smuggling slaves from Vvardenfell, it's entirely possible a slave had picked up some blight disease, and passed by the water. Therefore perhaps the poisoning of the water wasn't intentional at all, but rather an unhappy coincidence.
From what I understand from reading dialogue and books in game, according to the armistice, slavery is legal. The slaves that the Dunmer are allowed to use legally are the ones from the prisons (don't remember how they are selected from the prisons to become slaves). The ones you see in smuggling caves were probably taken illegally from their province, and were not prisoners of the Empire.

I don't think Sixth House cultists could work. They're on Vvardenfell, and let's just leave them there and not open the floor up to a swarm of sixth house quests in the future.
I also don't reckon it being caused by a Great House makes sense either. They couldn't put Redoran against Dres because they are too distant. House Indoril consider themselves too good for such a thing. Telvanni would never get involved in anything outside their towers. And House Hlaalu would never risk something as stupid as that.
And lastly, it involving the slave trade is also a dumb idea. Slave smugglers don't need to do these kinds of things in Morrowind under any circumstances and the possible motives would be half-assed to some degree.
So what could cause it?
- Daedric worshippers
- Serial killer
- Someone completely humiliated by the people of Kogo'tel, or at least with some major grudge.
- Anti-temple fanatics (extremist Imperial Cultists?)
- Anti-Dunmer fanatics (Altmer purists (in lore)?, Khajiits or Argonians (anti-slave trade)?)
- etc.

I sort of like the idea of becoming a Lich(if it's do-able of course) - We do want to maintain the freedom to become and/or do anything one wants in this game, yes?
That being said, becoming a lich(as far as my own fantasy reading/RP'ing exploits has led me to believe) should be waaay harder, more time-consuming, and involve a lot of trafficking with necromancers and intelligent magic-wielding undead.

What do you mean that slave traders don't have to do these kinds of things? You mean trading slaves? I wasn't implying that they deliberately infected an Argonian and threw him in the water. It was supposed to look like an accident. Slavers get in a shipwreck, trudge over land, die near the Pit. They contracted the blight when a rat from Vvardenfell stowed away on their ship. It's really no more farfetched than the idea that the Europeans brought smallpox to the Americas and killed thousands (historical fact).
That would be more realistic. Supposing the people in Kogo'Tel had never dealt with Swamp Fever before, it would be just as devastating as a blight disease. What might also work might be tainted meat/scuttle/whatever else you want. There could be the remains of a caravan that befell some highway robbery, and an overturned crate could be found near the pit. Visibly hanging out of the crate could be the tainted substance, plus a shipping report. Ex.- 25 units of Hound Meat care of Fluvius Macadamius shipped on the Imperial ship The Glory from Ebonheart to Black Light, and then by Caravan to Cyrodiil.
You see The Pit lies in the center of the city, in the open. It's not just a hole in the ground. It's a hole with fortified walls in the center of the city. So the source of infection should be underground.

It could be that some "scientist" that's an enemy of the city or whatever, just wanted to make the people sick, but accidently used too much blight potion and killed people by mistake.

I think that corprus would be a good idea just because of the interesting things you could do with it. As the player gets further into the quest, people start turning into corprus monsters. Really creapy.
A 6th House base is not impossible, it's unlikely. I think that it's just fine for something unlikely to happen.
