Remaining sound effects.

Post by Vernon »

I am going to start compiling a rough list of creatures and other items that may still need sound effects. It is very hard at the moment to see what has effects already and what doesn't, so I will slog through the list when I find out more.

I am aiming for a list just for Morrowind province at the moment.

Please post corrections if you know of any mistakes.

Tavern Ambience?

Should be fairly simple, for anyone with Cubase (grrr...). Simply sample a lot of vague murmurings, drunken shouts, snatches of conversation, bottles being hit, etc.

We need to get the majority of TR to be sampling their voices for stuff like this.

People have already tried getting this done. It is a good idea. Why don't you post your voice to start it off?

I don't think I sound like someone from Tamriel, personally...

May I can load it up to one of me friends servers. Or is that here avaible too?

Well, i think 54 min. are damn too long. I will cut some boring parts. Ah yes, at some parts there is only rain, may I can create Thunderstorm- and Rain sounds add to the attachment...

Question! Are all the voices on the list already taken or has it been edited to where it is current? If it is, I would like to try Giant Spider and perhaps some weather I recorded.

I did the Vermai voice ages ago. Should I PM them to you anyway, assuming they're lost?

Also, I once worked on an ambience sound myself that could probably be applied to tombs. However, it's 4 .wav files. Does any sound guru know a way to combine them?

Send me all of that stuff. I can combine files, but please send them to me as mp3 (i.e. convert first). I am on 56k. :P

I'll do a zip pack full of sounds that could be included in TR. For example, I just made an ambience for a tomb or a shrine... It's in mp3 but I make my sounds in 16-bits WAV, so it's high-quality. I can do it in 24-bits too :)

It's a loop, designed to play in a seeeaaammmlesss loop.

note: i've started to do some weapon sounds too... There will be all kind of stuff in it...You'll hear :)

I've just made an ambience pack for Tombs. I made 19 creepy sounds to enhance the stress when playing in tombs and nasty places... Here I post the mp3 version once again... If you want something to be added, tell me. I need your comments please!

Creepybreath_5 - the sound is quite strange....It's just *phe* and that's all

I'll try to make them louder but I can't promise anything. I don't want any distortion.

I did them with my headphones and the volume was very high, that's why I though they were louder...

Version 1.5 is coming soon...

That's not bad. Perhaps you could make it less loud and try to get rid of the little dist. Then we could include it in SPoT.

Hummmm, not a bad idea, but I doubt it'll work. Most people have a crappy microphone good for talking on Skype, but not to make game sounds. One crappy mic gives a little distortion, but if you have 10 crappy mics, the effect will probably give a headache. Perhaps I'm wrong but that's what I think it'll give. Anyway, we should do a test to see if it works and then make the real sounds.

You named yours Foghorn, too?

Does anyone know where I put my foghorn upload?

Actually it was yours I just buggered around with it for a while (about 45 mins). Since we have lots of different strider types we can use them for different ones.

Edit: Here is a croak sound effect. I actually made it from a man burping.

Edit2: here is a bird sound i made from...bird sounds.

Edit3: Cleaner Strider Sound

We can always filter the crappiest microphones, and anyway, it's ambience, most of the time, so quality isn't a serious issue.

When it comes to getting dialogue voices recorded, that's when we have to worry about studio quality.

Upsilon, Jale, I'm downloading all the sounds, checking them, then adding them to the file I'm making for Data files.

If you know of any good sound effects already posted here, let me know so I don't miss them.

Graff.

P.S. It might take a while to get things organised, considering the list has to be updated.

Some good sites for raw samples, and a good program to use too:
http://www.freewareweb.com/cgi-bin/archive.cgi?ID=1628
http://www.ljudo.com/default.asp
http://www.koumis.com/soundfx.htm

Edit: Golem Sound. I used some falling rocks to get the rocky part and there is a wave underneath to suggest some magic holding it together.

http://www.ljudo.com/default.asp is seems very good. I found some lion sounds that I can use as a creature, when mixed with other sounds.

Ahh, my microphone could do. I believe it's close to studio quality. I once recorded my voice and it was similar to what you hear on radio. The problem is it's in English, and I speak French. I can speak English good enough but I have a French accent... Would look innapropriate.

That would be fine for a dadra if you mess it around a lot.

This is the best microphone I have: http://www.henrys.co.uk/PA/952195boundarymicrophone.html

Mmmmmmmmmmmm.

Anyway, I made a Strider sound too. I used a wapiti sound, pitch shited it and removed high frequencies.

Jale, I like the Golem sound. Perhaps you could make us a pack of multiple Golem sounds?

Ok, here's the sounds we need:
  • moan
    roar
    scrm (scream)
    attack1
    attack2
    death
    Hit1
    Hit2
And that's all I think. Perhaps we also need footsteps but I'm not sure,

Footsteps are also needed, yes. For better ogranisation, you should make a new thread if you want to make sounds for a certain creatures. If everybody replies to this one it'll become a total mess.

Additionally, I'm almost 100% sure that there were already sounds for most of these creatures. I'd advice nobody to work on the unknown ones until I'm able to dig any of these sounds up.

Okay, I think a lot of them were using provisional sounds, such as the bear growl on the telvanni squid.

I'm going to check every creature out in the CS tomorrow.
