Saibot's Models

Post by Saibot »

I am posting this for your opinions. It is my first actual attempt at modeling. Any input would be great.

It does remind me of the Sunder a little. Even though they look nothing alike. Don't ask me why because I don't why.

Any resemblance to Sunder that I see is that they are both hammers. The similarities end there.
I like it a lot. It could be used as a variation iron warhammer, perhaps renamed as an iron maul. I love the design though, perfect for skull-bashing, a favorite hobby of my characters.

Seriously, Saibot, it will be great to have a new modeller here. I assume you are using milkshape, right?

Yes, I just got it a couple days ago and this was the first time I made something other than a box. I still need a lot of practice.

PS.
Yes I know there's a button to make boxes, but I thought if I could make one from scratch it would be a good way to learn.

Here's a new one. I'ts not as good as the first, i'ts the blunt weapon version of a halberd. I'ts very slow, but devastating.

Personally, I love the first one (can we make a fat, ugly Ogrim-style daedra carrying a daedric version of this? I've always felt the game lacks maul-swinging ogre-ish creatures ...), but am unsure about the second one, it looks as though the handle is just shoved through the hammer piece.

Can you attach a small ring of metal or something to both ends where the pole protudes from the hammerhead? That would make it look a lot more balanced, I think.

There's texture maps that you can export, aren't they? If so, I'd like a shot at texturing these.

Well there is something called a UV unwrap, which is also known as a skin, and you could texture the whole weapon with that. Otherwise, you can just use simple UV mapping, which would require you to make separate textures for the handle, head, decorations, etc. Saibot just has to choose which he is going to use. Though I am unsure of whether you can do unwraps in Milkshape. Morden would know.

I used a separate program called LithUnwrap when i was working in Milkshape. It worked great.. although i think i eventually figured out how to do it right in Milkshape itself.. when i got an updated version of the software.

If you've never seen Sunder ingame or otherwise, how could you even guess that his hammer resembles it? Personally, I doubt that you've never seen Sunder. But I don't really care either way. Just don't post useless comments in constructive threads. Sorry if I sound overly mean here, but I think others will agree with me. It sounds like your trying to raise your post count.

OK...

You could try modelling things from this or this list if you like. Some of them have been in previous games or artwork, so we may know what they look like. They just need to be modelled now. And I googled some tutorials for you. There is a texturing tutorial on thispage.

After seeing the tutorial it was easy. I textured the first hammer two different ways(so far), here they are.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b392/Reytha/myhammertex1.jpg
and the second.

I can't believe you just started modelling! Looks great, but the texture needs fixing on the second one. Well done, man.

Well, you probably used to say you suck at modeling. Look what you've done! They're amazing, especially that sword. I love it.

Anyway, I suggest, if you haven't already, give Photoshop a try. It's pretty easy, once you know what you're doing.

Is that from your model? Because that appears to be what I was referring to earlier; a UV unwrap. You can put the texture on that map in photoshop and then apply it to the model.

What would a silver warhammer look like?

Probably an iron or steel shaft with a shiny silver smasher at the end. The entire thing would probably not be silver because silver is pretty malleable and would bend and break.

@Stalker, ok I'll do that too.

I think it would save me a great deal of time if I could get some description of what these models should look like.
