Dwemer Clothing
Here is my idea for some clothing or light armor maybe. Take the Dwarven spectre mesh and cut up the body parts. Get it to be solid not transparent and either add the textures to new meshes or get the original meshes to work somehow. Then you could wear some fine Dwemer clothing as there is none.
The fact that it would have rotten till now.Ashstaar wrote:what does time have to do with it?Stalker wrote:You see there's absolutly no reason Dwemer would have made their clothing resistant to time...

it doesnt Necessarly mean that it would rot, what if it had slightly oxided does anyone get where i'm going with this
but also i dont really think we should put dwemer clothing in concestantly because has anyone actualy seen any in the original game the answer is a simple straight no if we where i'd go with ashstaar's idea and make it an "artifact". wait i just got the coolest idea if it was going to be an artifact, get this "the tunic of living flame" we could make it so that when you wear it your torso becomes smothered in flame and it makes you completly resistant to fire attacks it could also double as a light but as a downside any ingrediants in your inventory would be burned to nothing except fire salts, firpetals and ash.
and maybe i'm getting carried away here but to get it, it might be a final gift for getting the highest rank in the imperial archeological soceity, maybe its an excavation and you get the choice of getting "the tunic of living flame" or some random other thing. ok maybe i went overboard, sorry

Yea,if their books survived why can't their clothing?ookami wrote:Their books seem to have survived fairly well, though. Perhaps there's a Dwemer tailor's manual and design book somewhere. Of course, almost anything to do with the Dwemer is treading into dangerous lore territory (where it is better not to tamper).

I've got some input on this, so hear me out.
Observing the Dwemer ruins, specifically the construction, indicates they're extremely crafty with preservation of certain items. For some reason, they have schematics and plans lying about that rots at nearly the same rate clothing does, only slightly more faster. (single sheets of paper will decompose much quicker than cloth will in the right enviroment) This leads us to believe that the Dwemer are skilled in not only metal preservation, but in just about everything else. The moisture in these ruins must be astronomical, they have steam grids running about and even water in some places. The insects, bacteria and other decomposers would flock to these ruins only to seek out the perishables for a tasty treat. They know not of the role they play in the ecosystem, they're just hungry. If the paper can survive in such a hostile enviroment, why can't simple pieces of cloth?

I forgot about those! Forgive me for not remembering these. However, since they're all heavily armored why not just make the clothing themselves armor? Rare sets of Dwemer king's clothing that's armored in itself. Surely there were different classes in the Dwemer society, the peasant clothing has no reason to last but why not make the magnificent nobles have robes that would last for centuries? Maybe a quest to restore one such piece of cloth into it's former glory? The jewels and bits of trinkets would survive for a very long time, but the cloth would decay for sure.Stalker wrote:I have already explained it. They don't have a reason to make their clothes resistant to time. Not a single. Just like matrasses or their beds.

Hahaha, if I had a signature that would go in it.Jale wrote:Somehow I cant see the Dwemer hurrying along as their beards frizz up with the static
I don't think Dwemer clothing would last, though, as all the feedback against it seems far too convincing; a lot of valid points and intelligent thought. A replica sounds good, perhaps a ancient Dwemer tailor's manual (as previously mentioned by... ookami) added in with a quest for a collector.

Good idea for a IAS quest...find the garment shop in Kemel-Ze, filled with duty remains of course, find a book, get a few ornamental jewelry bits (in little boxes), give them to a master tailor, get a dwemer robe for display!
Though we would need someone who can draw like a Dwemer, and a model for a little dwemer jewelry box.

The idea about that occured to me because of all those instruction manuals found in Bamz-Amschend (in Tribunal). Perhaps a scholarly (though not particularly brave) tailor could ask the player to find an illustrated (or just text saying that the book is about this or that like most of the other Dwemer books) book on Dwemer tailoring techniques and clothing. It could make for a nice little quest as Jale described.
Well...since I originally made this post I will say this: it was just my idea to contribute something original to the project since so much has been done already. As has been discussed and dismissed above I intended it as a relic type garment. And if you look closely at the dwemer spectre the garment appears to have quite a bit of metallic substance. Anyway...we need quests right? and we need clothing right? so that was the idea. I did find a dwemer reskin of the exquisite robe(hortator)at Morrowind Summit: Rare Robes or Xanadorf's Rare Robes? something like that. I like it!...you guys are great.
Jale is my favorite. Ever.
At any rate, the Dwemer robe would be of the same construct of the Dunmer, correct? What do they use? The materials should be similar, but to initiate the quest just find the rotted remains of the robe's metal decorative part (chain mail parts, perhaps collections of jewels and such) and then it adds a new topic. (something like "strange dwemer scrap") From there, one of the tailors would respond to the topic and instruct the player to find whatever is needed for the reconstruction... sound about right?

And man do we need better robes!Jale wrote:I posted in the IAS thread an idea for a quest...basically you just get assigned to inspect a tailor shop and then find the plans...eventually you get a tailor to make some robes.
Err, where is that thread? I can't find it...
Edit: Here, Dwemer runes and all. I did this on my computer, so it looks very photoshop-ish.

Sure, I'll try it today. My texturing is far from great, but like you said, just a "rough prototype".Etz wrote:Morgoth, I'm pretty sure I'm jealous of you... that's an awesome idea for a robe! Can you get the Dwemeri writing on it and all? I'd love to see a rough prototype of what it would look like.
