Hammerfell Concepts/Models
Alright, so everyone has been screaming for Hammerfell architecture. It seems fit, therefore, to make a thread dedicated to just that. Here anyone and everyone can post their art and concepts for Hammerfellian buildings. It is supposed that the Redguards have an Islamic-like building style, but please don't limit your imaginations. I'll start it off with a Guard/Watch tower I did lastnight;

I should have alot more soon, but I ask that every concept artist post at least one attempt at this style. Then maybe we can do other province architecture or something. Be creative!

Not bad at all. Just one question, it this part here ^ the top of an underlying building? Looks like shingles.horodnicdragos wrote:Here is something I drew for hammerfall.I hope it is good.

No problem. I can see now that you meant for them to be cobblestones. Nice art btw.horodnicdragos wrote:That's the road. I did it quick and I am not very good in drawing with a pencil.However.I think you understand the idea from that draw.Just a common building.

I've got some Hammerfell architecture in the works. I think I'm going to open my own thread for it when I get around to scanning it. Keep in mind when you are drawing though, Hammerfell is probably most influenced by Islamic and Ottoman-style architecture.

Well, just post them and then we'll decide. In any case, they might turn out useful for something else.knightmare wrote:i found this old picture i drew when i was bored. its a picture of these grand gates in a destert. there's a huge wall and these gates are one of the few openings in it.
are there any gates in hammerfall that need this concept art or should i not bother posting it?

Here's some gates I did for fun. I haven't really looked at the Islamic style at all, I just know they have big domes and spires, so this appeared in my head and I drew it. Hope it fits in.

I'm pretty sure you are using the wrong type of stone Morgoth. It should be a sandstone, or plain stone, or something similar. Go to the Imperial library and look at the Redguard and Daggerfall (looking at Sentinel) screenshots.

Hey, no problem. I myself thought that white stone might be a bit too Imperial. I'll just go into Photoshop and change the texture's color to a tannish.Nomadic1 wrote:I'm pretty sure you are using the wrong type of stone Morgoth. Quite nice, I agree about the sandstone look, but southern hammerfell and in the mountains would likely hav alot of normal stone too.
What program did you make that with, does it have bump, normal, specular, gloss, reflection mapping support?

I'm using 3ds max, so yeah I think it does support those, unforunatly, stupid people such as myself don't know how to use them...Eraser wrote: What program did you make that with, does it have bump, normal, specular, gloss, reflection mapping support?

Don't feel stupid when it comes to 3ds max, its an insanely complex program.
What version is it though? I can't speak for earlier than 4, but I know 4 had the majority of the common texture effects.
Quick tut for adding effects: Open materials editor (M usually), the default blinn shader should suffice. Scroll down past the mess of parameters that are on top to where you see a +Maps s in section and expand it.
The applied texture will be under diffuse, for a quick idea of what it will look like: click and drag the texture name down to the other slots of different names and copy it over.
Play with the check boxes and levels of how much each shows up until it looks how you like. For an idea of what it would look like in OB, I recommend using bump map, specular level, specular color and gloss.
Usually its best to tweak the base texture in photoshop to be different for each type to get the look perfect, but the regular base texture looks decent most of the time.

I was kidding about being stupid, however I do have a long way to go before I'm any good with max. I'm using version 7 now, and it is very complex. I'll check out what you said when I get on my good comp tomorrow. Thanks alot.Eraser wrote:Don't feel stupid when it comes to 3ds max, its an insanely complex program.

Oh man! I've never played Redguard before, but we could redo this and make it look 1000 times better. Maybe my gates could have something to do with that palace or Sentinal?Arthmodeus wrote:Not really conceptual art, but a screenshot of the Sentinel Palace.

Your gates are the wrong style for the style of the palace of Sentinel though. They also aren't very Middle Eastern. They remind me more of Venice or something, an Italian Renaissance city. That isn't to say that it couldn't be Middle Eastern-ised to be for Rihad or another major Redguard city.
BTW, Redguard took place at Stros M'Kai. Since that was a fully 3D claim, it pretty much has to be made the same as it was, only 400 years have past.

Well, I have yet to do the pillarish things on the tower base, but this is the general idea of it.

I really need a good texture for the dome though, that one sucks. Any suggestions would be apreciated.

Well, since I've been taking night classes at RISD for figuritive Drawing, I've gotten better at drawing buildings. So I decided to give Hammerfall housing a shot. I have the picture I used for the building and the actualy building itself.
Here it is:

Since it is relavent to Hammerfell Buildings, I figured I'd post some past Concept Art of something in Redguard... the Mages Guild:

Notice it seems to have a japanese-like quality to it(the Reguard are often associated with them in areas of culture). Although this might be as an Imperial influence(Akaviri and all). I think that it might be interesting to see if there can be some blending of the two architectures.
While looking over character's outfits to come up with something for a costume conscept, I found this rather amusing...

Obviously the wrench comes in handy for dealing with the nearby dwemer ruins, that has to be it...lol.

uh
Shouldn't it be more sandstone? The model is fine, its just i don't think the texture fits because of the unrealistic look to it. It looks like marble, which would mean they are VERY rich to have marble walls.
