Your favorite (fantasy) books
The title says it. What's you're favorite book in the fantasy genre? Ofcourse, the undeniable number 1 is still Tolkiens masterpiece for me. I like the Inheretance trilogy as well (Paolini), working my way through eldest now. One trilogy I really liked was the Rose of the Prophet (my books are all dutch so I might have translated the names incorrectly).
Other books that I like are mainly historical one's like Kevin-Crossley's arthur trilogy. I think that's kind of on the edge between historical and fantasy.
So, what kind of books do you like?

well, i have 3. in no particular order:
1) Tolkien(LotR, Silmarillion); for all around coolnes and detail of the world
2) Inheritance Trilogy (by chiris Paolini) Eragon was a very nice beggining, and Eldest kicks some major ass (and hey, you make Eragon elv like, and you got some uber hotnes )
3) Song of Ice and Fire (GRR martin) all the books -- Game of Thrones, Storm of swords,Clash of Kings, Feast for Crows -- were simply awsome for tehir realistic, gridy, violent, etc. description of the world. no stereotypical "heoes survive all" crap, everything seems uberly real. and Long live Danerys Targaryen!!! (ok, im geeting to geek here)
P.S. the quote in my sig is actualy from song of ice and fire.

It aint fantasy, but I sure love stories written by Philip K. Dick. If you've seen Minority Report, Blade Runner, Screamers or Total Recall, they were based on his stories (although with vastly varying levels of sticking to the original story).
The only fantasy book I've read recently is the Silmarillion, not the easiest read ever because you had to remember about 100 characters, and if you read about them in the appendix to remind yourself, it usually gave away a few plot points.
Apart from that, a load of psychology textbooks... I guess I dont do much recreational reading when I think about it.

I have always had a love for fantasy, enjoying the "mainstays" (Tolkien, R.A. Salvatore, Pratchet, etc.) many times over. However, two others immediately come to mind that are surprisingly seldom mentioned:
The Dark Tower/Gunslinger Series by Stephen King
The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop

I'm a big fan of Tolkien, though I couldn't say which book I like the best. I've read The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Simirillion, and The Book of Lost Tales 1, and am currently reading The Book of Lost Tales 2.
I've read the Chronicles of Narnia when I was younger, they were pretty good too. Not many other fantasy series sticks out in my mind... Except maybe the Harry Potter books, I've read those too. They're pretty good too.

Ofcourse, Lotr is my nr. 1... but very close to LOTR comes the Chronicles of Narnia and "De brief voor de Koning" Its a dutch book, written for kids but the story is great. I don't know if theres any translation of the book... i'll check that.
