Yeah, poor indeed. Used as food, beasts of burden, hunting and...does anyone know if guars lactate?...
Anyway, Saturday-update day, and here's my take on what imo should be the most common mount in Hammerfell, the camel.
Also threw in a couple of guard ideas, just to fill the page with something.

P.S. The above link is a joke, of course.

Guars seem reptilian to me. I don't know of any reptiles which lactate, but if a mammal can lay eggs and be venomous (in real life even), then I guess it's fair game for a reptile to lactate. This is fantasy, after all.

Now that I think of it, are rats the only mammalian wildlife on Vvardenfell?

Actualy if a reptile could lactate, it would probably be considered a mamal, even if it was scaley and cold blooded. Mamary glands are where the name mamal comes from.

Scumbag, your work is supperior. You have got me really exited abouty Hammerfell (if we do it, anyway). I like the look, they look arabic, but fantasy as well.

Depending on the amount of time it takes you to draw one of these pictures you should try drawing comics.

First off, great drawing and Ideas. I was wondering something about the guar mill though. Is it possible to script a guar walk in a circular motion like that?

I'm not sure that it would need scripting. If the guar(s) could be fixed into these 'chockers' of theirs, and only keep the walking animation while the cylinder is moving round and round, we could create the illusion that the guars actually move it.
It could also be scripted so, that the guars and cylinder act as a creature moving in circles, but then hitting any part of the machinery would immediately affect the guars.

The whole mill thing is a long-shot, but could make for a good visual effect.

I really liked your skyrim concepts so I made a couple of the buildings. Hope you like them.

I had a lot of trouble with the roof, so if anyone has ideas on making the edge look ok, I would appreciate them.

I didnt do many because there are already alot of skyrim like buildings in bloodmoon.

Wow Nalzay, you're way too quick when it comes to modelling stuff! And talented too.
My only objection has to do with the size of the buildings, especially the house should be twice as large, considering the size of the human next to it. But that is not a problem, your models can follow very closely the sketches you make them from, which is admirable.

One notification though; any Skyrim meshes will probably be made in vain, since the admins are making a Hammerfell texture library, which states that Hammerfell is 90% sure to be our next goal.

I believe all of us can't wait to see what you can do with complicated Hammerfell architecture. Lutemoth's tower was most certainly an excellent job and a very promising start.

You're right el scumbago, it was way too thin. it would be like a closet. Here is an updated version:

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y188/nalzay/Skyrim/shopwide.jpg
I didnt want to make it too wide because I think that the thing that makes the building look good is partly how thin it is, it would look weird too wide.

Elladen, Here is a slightly lower version of it. I dont know if you meant a lower roof or lower all around. I just did a lower all around version. here it is.

Yes, that's about it I think. It's very nice Nalzay, dunno which of these two versions I like the most, though I'm inclined to say the second one.

It's been sooo long since this thread was last updated.
Here's 3 new pics. The first one is serious, showing objects of everyday use. The second one is just an atmospheric scene, an elf battling it out in Alik'r ruins.
The third one is pure spam!

Left: 2 weighers (the upper for small precious wares and the lower mostly for bazaars), a horn, brushes and dices, a tool for sailors (sextant's the name?), a nargiles (no more skooma pipes, this thing is 1 meter high and more healthy), and a gong instead of bells (much more islamic).

Middle: Venturing in the ruins of Alik'r is a task for desparates and madmen. Which suits you best?

Right: For the first time ladies and gents, live iiiin VVANDERFEEEL! The awesome, the unbelievable, the one and only: Jiub & the Jailbreakers!!! *applause*
Note: Jiub's hair is the result of extension methods, he's actually bald as before. Ah, marketing tricks...

Left pic: Rising above calm seas, a lonely lighthouse watches over the narrow passage to the city's harbor, while Masser and Secunda compete the blazing flame's brightness.

Right pic: A small Hammerfell port, located in a gulf or a riverside. Not much going on here and the traffic is little, but the pallet of characters is as big as anywhere in the province.

Due to lack of time and inspiration I drew nothing significant over the last weeks. Here's the only thing I came up with, a vision of a scenery from the Chain islands, east of Hammerfell. Narrow cliffs and a hidden pirate port.

Wow Scumbago, that pirate port picture looks nearly identical to what I had in mine, minus the vegatation. I'm almost done with an in-game concept of something just like that.

Some good art here. Only one comment: I though the Dwarven crane was odd for some reason. I guess I always figured the Dwemer lifted things by Singing the Five Chameleon Tones or something. Cranes seem too Mundus, too third era.

Slave Market

This is a slave market in HF. I've made two views of it, the upper one may be criticised but you've been warned.

Hammerfell Beasts

Sandrunner

The Sandrunner is a small lizard-like animal that lives in the deserts of Hammerfell. Its colors allow it to blend with the surrounding environment in order to conceal it from the eyes of prey or predators. When standing still, the Sandrunner looks like part of the terrain and its grass-like feathers and stripes further improve the camouflage.
In spite of being too agile, Sandrunners are not considered to be a serious threat, unless they are encountered in packs, which is usually the case. Only experienced adventurers can survive the claws and jaws of a whole Sandrunner pack. It is about 1.2 meters tall and 1.5 meters large. Its main food consists of small desert critters.
Ingredient to be taken: Sandrunner Feathers

Manta

The Manta dwells in the warm seas of Hammerfell. It's a big, slow and relatively quiet animal that blends with its environment by laying at the bottom of the sea and taking advantage of its blue back and white belly to look like part of the water from whichever side it is seen from. Mantas usually travel one by one or two by two and do not attack divers unless the last ones get too close. If forced to fight, a Manta will use its wings and strong electrified tail to defend itself. It is about 2 meters large and the opening of its wings reaches 2.5 meters. Its main food consists of sea plants.
Ingredient to be taken: Manta Glands

Alik'r Lizard

The Alik'r Lizard is one of the dangers that lurk in Hammerfell, a heavy beast with decent agility, sharp teeth and no hesitations as to what its prey will be. Rarely do these reptilians appear in numbers greater than two, but one alone is lethal enough. This beast may be seen carrying a huge membrane on its back, the use of which is still unknown. The most popular opinions among the scholars is that the membrane either gathers energy from the sunlight or collects the chilness of the evening winds to keep the animal cold during the day. Another variation of the Alik'r Lizard is the one covered in spikes that protect its back when the beast is engaged in close combat. It is about 3 meters large and 1 meter tall. Its main food consists of anything but flora.
Ingredient to be taken: Lizard Membrane/Lizard Spikes

I'm not fully knowledged on slave lore, but are there any slave markets outside of Morrowind? I thought the Imperials had managed to abolish it everywhere else. Of course, your concept could easily be considered as a concubine/prostitute market instead, with people being sold off for the night to the highest bidder.

I'm liking the creature designs too. The first and third are quite apt from Hammerfell I think. I have it in my head that Hammerfell would have lizard and snake like desert creatures, whereas Elsweyr would have more mammillian desert creatures. Just my thoughts though. The designs are pretty interesting, it would be cool to have creatures whose skin reacted with environment and/or weather. I'm glad you didn' give the Sandrunner arms too, it looks unique and not too much like a dinosaur.

Marine life should be fairly exotic, in what I assume Hammerfell would have pristine clear blue oceans, like you've portrayed here. I know dolphins and sharks are also in lore due to "Redguard", although designs of those creatures could be TESified to look unique compared to real life versions.
P.S. Please don't make handbags, wallets, belts or shoes out of Orix

wow interesting.....

a Sandrunner/chameleon....cool

Manta.... I'm not sure we should call it a Manta....also cool

Alik'r Lizard.... hmmm judging by what you've drawn you like this idea the most.
I asure you that this is something worth pressing further....OMG COOL

Anyway you have a nack, it seems, for creature creation.
I wolud encourage you to persue this as well

BTW Orix there are a few slave markes outside of MW, brothels and the like, you just have to know were to look ;) mabe a Male order Bride? :P

Brothels arn't slave markets, are they? I thought brothels were places of recreation (of a sexual nature) people could visit, but they wouldn't actually buy people permananently, only pay them for their services.

Not sure about mail order, but the concubine market may dabble in buying wives, although selling a resource like that would be hefty in price, and worth more than a slave in that respect, which isn't completely like slavery... but not that far off either. Not the easiest of terms to work with.

Oh, and in consideration of the Manta, thats Scumbago's choice, since many TES creatures are pretty much exact copies of real life ones. Deer, wolves, bears, lions, sharks, dolphins, seagulls, sheep, elephants, hedgehogs are just a few examples.

Indeed, Tamriel has lots of RL creatures, but I'm not really keen in drawing 'live' things, architecture interests me a lot more. But I thought I could use a break from that! Here are two more. And, btw, slave markets do exist in Rihad and were one of the topics of the previous WSG. I just didn't scan it in time.

Hammerfell Beasts#2

Fennek

The Fennek is a special kind of fox that lives in the borders of the Hammerfell deserts. Covered with light brown fur, this peaceful animal means no harm to men or mer that walk through its territory and prefers to run away if spotted. It will attempt to protect itself if attacked, but it is no match for an armed person. Rarely will one meet more than three Fenneks together, as they seem to favor loneliness. It is about 1.6 meters large and 1 meter tall. Its main food consists of small or dead animals.
Ingredient to be taken: Fennek Pelt

Scorpioss

A dreadful and monstrous encounter for any unfortunate traveller, Scorpioss is a beast hard to find, and even harder to escape. Aggressive and brutal, it will attack on sight using all the parts of its body but favoring its sting which is both sharp and poisonous. Noteworthy is the monster's speed, for Scorpioss may be heavy but also agile enough to outrun a camel. According to the legends the first Scorpioss ever was a man who lived to sin, which greatly provoked the Yokudan Gods' fury. Thus, they decided to punish him for his faults and half-turned him into a scorpion, for they saw that this animal was so much like him, sneaky as the man's ways and poisonous as his words. The sinner roamed the lands of Hammerfell but was everywhere greeted by steel and fire. His torment was great and his pleas to the Gods in vain, so he decided the only way out of this was suicide. But before that, his heart ached for revenge against all Redguards, and one night Scorpioss sneaked in a small village and raped an unfortunate woman who later gave birth to his first and only children. And even though the monster pierced its head with its own sting that night, its children procreated and now inhabit the darkest caves and most desolate deserted areas of Hammerfell. Some of these monsters still keep the human characteristics of their supposed progenitor, while others are much more similar to scorpions and even more aggressive. What all of them have in common is a great love for solitude. It is about 2 meters large (without the tail) and 1.8 meters tall. Its main food consists of everything but flora.
Ingredient to be taken: Scorpioss Crust

Wow, it would be great to have the Fennek in the game, I just think the ears should be a bit bigger. If you look at Fenneks in RL the ears are what make 'em special. I also really like the scorpioss seems to me like a good scary creature.

In an attempt to save my thread from the 2nd page of the forum and establish myself as the 'Odd Cities Designer', here's this:

The Floater

The Floater is a combination of the Tamrielic world, the 10 y.o. 'Waterworld' movie and the 'Golden City' comic book. Off the western coast of Tamriel, between the island of Stirk and the southern shores of High Rock floats this town.

Wooden structures based on pillars that end on large platforms compose this weird scenery. The multiple large platforms share the weight of the buildings so that they can easily remain on the surface, while all of them are united with ropes and planks, chained to huge stones on the ocean floor below, to stay put.

Outcasts and refugees share this shelter amidst the waves, granting help to those who sail these parts for extreme prices, since they own the only harbor in a great radius.
Pirates have rarely been trouble and often cooperate with the wave settlers, exchanging loot for services they cannot aqcuire in legal ports.

Awesome! I always liked the idea of floating cities and you made a great artwork out of the concept.

Once again, El Scumbago, You've accomplished yet another architectural wonder. With such detail, it adds another facet to the Hammerfell diversity

I think the Floater would be perfect if you combined it with that "secret port" concept (I love the ideas of hidden bays in archipelago island chains.)

Additionally, how fucking cool would it be to combine it with this:

Thanks guys. I love the hidden port thingie too, though what I had in mind gor this particular one was to be out in the open sea (that's why I mentioned Waterworld). But with a set like this being modular, it could be easy to show a more pirate-like version, hidden somewhere in the Chain archipelago.

Plus, some quests I just came up with:
1) Pirate raids on the town.
2) Underwater chains getting loose.
3) Lack of incoming goods.
4) Establishment of trade routes between the town and the mainland.
5) Expanding the town.
6) Misc stuff like 'bring me this, kill that' etc.
