Top Modders

Post by The Old Ye Bard »

I just had an idea to get modders to join TR, no its not going to involve posting on ESF or for that matter any other place except TR.
What if we browosed the mod communitys such as THelys or Rpgplanet and see what mods stand out, test them, if the mod is good we could send them an email inviting them to join TR, this would also insure that people coming to TR would be Top modders.

The question is frased very poorly. You asked if it is good or bad, the answer shouldn't be yes or no- it should be good or bad.

Because of this I didnt vote, but I dont like the idea. I think it's not a good idea to try to recruit someone unless you know them. Also I think the TR policy is against "formal" recruiting.

We already have a system like this in the Bolt-Ons forum - a system whereby a forumite can make a thread with a yes/no poll recomending a mod. If the mod gets enough votes we add this to our recomended list, and contact the author. It isn't exactly the same as you propose, but it is close.

Further to the idea of getting 'top modders' to come here, 'top modders' usually have projects of their own, and are also used to controlling them, so working within our claims system may be a bit difficult. IMO the system that we are currently implementing will sort out the modding side of things for us.

Oh, and TheLys is already a member, he just hasn't claimed anything yet.

Allow me to add that the Top Modders are quite familiar with the community and the ongoing projects, so 99% of them certainly know about TR. They simply have their own stuff to worry about-as mentioned already.

Erm, I don't know when the poll was added, but saying 'Is this a good or bad idea?' and giving the options Yes and No is a bit stupid. The answer has to be yes, as it is a good or bad idea. It has to be. But that doesn't exactly clarify much. So as I can't vote on the poll, I'll simply say I think it is a bad idea. We came up with something over a year back where only the Admins were actually meant to post stuff on official forums about the mod, so don't go acting like an ambassador. Though obviously I'm not sure if that still stands.

I really see no purpose in this. If a modder wants to join TR, he will join TR. Chances are, they already know about it.

Yup, as I've been trying to get across. Ah well, we vote No and it'll probably die down.
