Some stuff about regulations I want to be discussed

Post by Stalker »

I was recently browsing through the books we have and noticed how many we alredy have and how they are still keep coming. Also I remembered that when I was making interiors I never used TR books because BoT was a mess. Also with books keep coming and interiors being already made we can come to a point where we will continously have to detail our interiors to include books. Same was with OoT's new meshes. So here it goes.
I think we must set a number of things we need to have (overall number of books and their topics, number of meshes etc.). After a certain point something like current OoT moratorium will be engaged and only quest-specific items would be allowed.

I think it is a good idea to organize the books, but remember that books is one of the few things we have made which can be used in oblivion modding.

so? I think this is a good system, and it should be realized.

People ask me to put my signature here. However, I do not want to write on my LCD screen. It's a good way to ruin a perfectly good screen. -M'aiq's little brother

Books will be accepted pretty much before we start making interiors. At least in my idea.

Once interiors are granted, only essential book should be written.

Question: In OB, are interiors and exteriors still separate cells?... it makes a difference on how we decide.

I think they must be. I read something on ESF about when an Npc enters a building from the outside you can't see the inside of the building through the open door because it's a seperate cell.

I'm rather sure ints and exts are separatate cells, remember in the E3 video when the PC enters the bookstore? There was a loading screen. And when the camera turned at the woman who was reading with the window behind her, all you could see was a bright white light. Things like the half opened door in that old pic in Beth's site probably work the same way the cavern openings worked in Bloodmoon.

I think, that's a very good idea. I would also make a sticky list somewhere in the Literature and Writing forums, where the autor gives a short description of the book. Containing the information what kind of book it is (storie, tale, historical, religious...) and what kind of people (which faction(s)) would read it. This would allow the interior modders to decide which books to include in their claims without reading all the books, which takes a lot of time, considering the number of included books...

I think cougar's idea would make a lot easier for the modder. Instead of painstakeingly pouring through BoT, one could select faction and race appropriate books for the interior.

The problem here was that a powerful feature of Morrowind wasn't exploited (same with EoT stuff) : levelled items.

You could go with the "HDS" to organize the levelled lists. 5 rarities -- "quest"-rarity books will of course not be in a levelled list -- × 3 types of books × 9 provinces brings a total of 135 levelled lists. But while 135 may seem big, it's actually not enough, you need qualifiers for subgroups too. So you would have for example of levelled lists:

TR_4.B.MW.Hlaalu
TR_5.B.MW.Vvardenfell
TR_3.B.MW.Temple
TR_2.S.MW.MagesGuild

Then containers and NPCs are made having the various appropriate kinds of levelled items, and interior modders just have to use the appropriate book chest or container-bookshelf in their interior.

Books displayed in the open would still suffer from the problem Stalker speaks about, but it would still have alleviated a large part of the problem. (Having a container bookshelf mesh would allow to solve this problem in large part, by reducing the need to display books.)

I don't believe that door was half opened, it's just the shadow. I'm sorry, this is off-topic but i couldn't resist to reply on this :P
