Sound & Music Moderator

Post by Dexter »

Alright, Garriath told me on AIM that he is stepping down from his mod position. Since we have a closed community now, Massie suggested that we allow TR Modders to give input on who the new moderator will be, so get to it. Let us know who you want as your next Sound and Music moderator.

I'm not that familiar with the music department, but isn't Macar the most active one on there? He produces some pretty high quality music.

Ditto. Him or Graff... or... did Graff leave? I'm sorely unfamiliar with the music department...

My vote goes to Graff for now. Macar is a good contender, and has a sensible head, I just think that Graff has more time under his belt.

I'd love to take on that job... I think. Thing is I'm not exactly shure what that entails. What would I need to do?

Thanks for the votes of confidence btw.

Well, whatever you feel the department needs, you just keep things in order, maybe sort out a system for getting music into the game, a certain procedure each song had to go through or something, so there's a more clea path from writing the music to getting it in game. Keeping voice stuff going once oblivion comes out, and also giving feedback on everyone's work.

I'm torn between Graff and Macar, myself. I'd be happy with either of them as head of music. So it's a vote between the rest of us. :)

Well, In my mind, Graff and Macar are even contenders, but since Graff has seniority, I guess I'll go with him... But, what if neither want the job?

As much as I would like to be moderator, I should point out that graff has more experience and also has knowlage of sound recording- whereas I only realy know about music.

I think the key to the answer to your question is in " well i don't venture into the music and sound forum that much"
It's easy to say you know a lot about sound and music but nodoby has seen any evidence saying that you are. If you put some sounds a music together, start going into those forums more often and seeking help and advice in that area then maybe people would recognise you as the sort of person for the job. Graff and Macar both have a lot of knowledge in that area, and so their names immediately come up.
I don't think this is your "calling" so to speak, not yet, but work hard and show your dedication to a specific area and you're efforts won't go unnoticed. For now, I think we'll go with Graff or Macar. :)

I haven't heard any of their recent music. I remember practically everything was all in midi. I think macar might be a better choice though, I don't remember seeing graff around all that much lately.

I wish dragonfly didn't fall off the face of the earth again.

BTW my brother has some sound editing knowledge and software, but he has a lack of interest in computer games outside of lan (and net games with friends rarely), goes double for RPGs and for games without multiplayer. I'll ask(read blackmail) him, but I doubt he'd help.

I believe that while Macar is qualified for the job, Graff has more experience in the field. So I'd have to pick him.

Tough choice between Graff and Macar. It seems to me that both would be good at it, and would be keen to have a go at moderating the department. Hmm... methinks Graff mainly for seniority since they are both talented and reliable.

Also, it looks like an even split between the two as well

Sorry - I'm going to have to go with Graff. I wanted him in the music moderator spot last year and I still do. Macar should obviously be called on by Graff to assist in any way he can, but Graff has been here a long time and has been omnipresent in the Sound & Music forum for as long as I can remember. For him the Sound & Music moderator spot is long overdue.

Chances are that if I get picked I'll be using Macar to help with opinions on music quality and so forth, he's probably a better writer than me, I just have broader knowledge :).

For what it's worth, I have to give Graff my support. He's been here for ages and has loads of experience.

No offense, Macar.

Btw, is this a core position too?

What about having both of them, one for effects, the other for music?

I guess the question that has been bouncing around my insane mind is this: "Why not promote Graff and Macar?" Both are believed to be qualified for the position and having two would alleviate those times when "real life" gets in the way. Just a thought. :)

Aye, I am aware that Dexter stated that there would not be enough to do in order to warrant two moderators. However, I was just merely thinking that having Graff and Macar overseeing the Sound/Music Section would only serve to be beneficial in the long run. I'm almost certain that both gents have lives outside of Tamriel Rebuilt and would be subject to forced or voluntary absences from time to time. With two Sound/Music moderators appointed, the duties will be shared either in tandem or trade-off agreement, allowing for flexibilty in the event one of them should need to focus their attentions elsewhere. This would also have a good chance of alleviating the rest of the team from adding to their already-swamped workload in order to cover the Sound/Music sections due to moderator absence.

It wouldn't make sense to have two moderators for S&M. [rant]Massie has to handle interiors and NPCs all on her lonesome. Ditto Lady N. I think that there should be a new moderator for ints(she had to get temp mods last week) [/rant]

If you would like to help the "Help LadyN and Mass!" appeal, please send your completely error free ints to

Well, while I would certainly appreciate help, I want a secretary, not another moderator (ill explain this a bit further down). All there is to interiors is granting and there’s nothing to NPCs, so I don’t see why Massey is busy :P (j/k of course. i mean no offence)

Now to the issue at hand. having 2 moderators, especially for such a small part of the project is really not worth it. First of all, having 2 moderators on the same turf is bothersome. The 2 people have to be in constant contact, and discus all their issues... witch makes for some really long down times. I remember when I was co-with vegor. We had to constantly discus everything that we were going to do, and if one person did something, we both had to mark it down on some list or something. Also, having 2 mods creates confusion as to what is who’s responsibility, and one person may end up doing all the work alone because the 2 people can’t agree/divide the work evenly (happened all the time to me and vegor/star)

hm... that made little sence...

I appreciate the clarification from one who has experienced a similiar situation. I suppose I was just attempting to theorize via logic, but as we know things that work in theory may not work in practice. With that being said, I would like to nominate Graff for the position. :)

I've assisted Lady N twice now and offered my services to all others who are swamped with secretarial type duties. This makes me feel quite useful while I am in limbo (all my belongings remain unpacked in the frozen attic and difficult to access until my room is finished being built).
