WSG#7 [A][F] Dune Dweller's Dwelling of Choice.
Moderator: Lead Developers
not to seem like a broken record, but this discussion is realy not about thier dwellings. Ka'gwola are already being discussed here: http://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?t=15158&start=200 I think it would make sense if we moved this discussion there or to one of the other threads where it's being discussed.
Does anyone else have any sketches? Any comments on mine (I'm thinking about doing some more sketches on the same idea)

I think everyone got distracted by the other threads about Dunedwellers and the big beastie. I think they're still discussing the fine points of whether mammals can live in the desert or something... I really don't care. Sometimes people like to over complicate a simple issue.
Thanks for submitting a sketch Macar.. i like the simple tent idea. Something that is light weight, but strong enough to withstand a sandstorm.
As for myself... i'll try to get something in, but I have a flight that leaves friday morning and i'm in the middle of planning.

Lutemoth, there is no reason for you to blame yourself.
I'm just hoping we will see some ideas. WSG really just a visual brainstorm so we need a bunch of ideas so we can pick and choose. I might turn in some more concepts on a different idea.

Hi, I'm new, but I was wondering, if they are called dune dwellers then should they not live in some thing that resembles a sand dune, and I don't mean to pick at others with out contributing anything, its just I am trying out a few ideas and before I posted anything I want to make sure that I am not wasting people’s time. Well, also that they meet the quality requirements.

Thanks, I feel a little more justified with my idea. I was thinking, the dune dwellers used the bones of animals to build their huts (they could be connected together with mortise and tenet joints) then they would be light, mobile and could be made to look like a small dune with irregularities and protection from the sand just by using cloth/hides. Think of them as the ice-age-ish nomads, building huts out of bones and hides of woolly mammoths. Would this also not fulfill the religiousness of the people as well, when the animal dies they are used in a new way till the sands devour it leading to new life?

That sounds like a good idea. I like the way it co-ordinates thier belifs. Just remeber, of course, that they dont have mamoths in Hammerfell. You need to decide what sort of remains it is made of.
Maybe it could be made of Ka'gwola bones. JK, if they end up being made, it's pretty certain that the ddwellers will live on thier backs.

Here's my submission, it has one main idea. It's using old run down buildings for temporary shelter. I would assume that the Dunedwellers are masters at using their surroundings to survive.
Sorry, I lost my photobucket password, and I havn't retrieved it yet.
O yea, kudos to Lutemoth for the awsome Dunedweller clothing

nice silver. Would have liked to see you incorperate some of the designs of ruins from the first WSG though.

The outside of the hut could be covered in hide (camels/the giant lizard{feathers} that was spoke of, or the huge turtle like creature with the tent on its back) or cloth, the bumps are there for two reasons. First daytime to let heat out/ air in and in nighttime they would let smoke out because IIRC deserts get quite cold at night and a fire would be good. Second they could allow the sand to blow up the side creating small irregularities to make it more resemble a dune. If you were not in front of it or knew what to look for you could walk right by it.

I don't have all of this worked out but I thought it would make sense to have the structure made out of the bones of the pack animals that died, when dried out they would prove light, durable, and reusable. It would make the most sense, to me anyway, if they were connected using mortise and tenet joints. I would doubt that they would be made out of would if this is a massive desert.
Sorry, I have not completely cleaned them up in photoshop because I only had a little time at the scanner at work to day, when I get home I think I shall try to clean and color them.

Edit: err...sorry, I can make some thumbnail sized ones when I have access to photoshop again.

Drew this up last night and this afternoon....I got a little bit off topic, but its still a concept we should explore. This is a desert refuge. It is clearly marked by religious totems (I smacked my head when I realised I'd drawn crosses..doh).
On long journeys between seasonal camps they may stop inside one of these shelters in the rock, to hide from predators and storms, to care for their wounded, or to take cool shelter from the sun. While their tents should be able to provide protection from the elements, this offers more stability.
If somebody wants to draw the inside, be my guest. I have to pack my bags... something I should've been doing instead of drawing... oh well.. its 'for the love of the game'

Quick question, my design was based off of the idea that the dune dwellers lived in a desert of endless sand the same way i think of the Sahara or the Gobi, but I got the impression from the pocket guide to the empire that it was more rocky like the American sw or Australia, so to make a long story short, is the consensus that it is one or the other or a combination of both?

Well I have read that hammerfell has a lot of mountains. But, I got the impression that the Aklir (or whatever it's called) was mostly sand. But I'm not shure if I read that or made it up.

Well anything in the PGE could be BS. If it is true, those guys are some crazy mo-fo's anyway, so they could be doing it even if there are rocks!
