No no no no NO! No Dexter! I should slap you. After the work of a lifetime, we must NOT commit a suicide - because who does the possible bugtesting, if we are dead?
Don't thou dare to say, that "there's no bugs", because - as an amateur game developer and professional website builder, I can say: There's always bugs. They're everywhere. So then we have a Tamriel Rebuilt buggy version.
Besides after TR is finally ready, then we supposingly HAVE to live to take the credits.
And that's a damn good picture

Any objections?
I don't know if Morrowind will ever be completely done (though I hope so!), but anyway we'll never be done. Even if you admit that we will succeed in making all of Tamriel-the-continent for Oblivion, what will happen next? We'll move on to Yokuda or Atmora...
By essence, this isn't about the destination but about the journey. Though reaching a point is gratifying and satisfying, at the heart of the project is modding for modding's sake.

Andoril, by your reckoning, we should never bother with bugtesting, because even though we may reduce the number of bugs, there are always bugs, so it's a thankless task. According to that theory, we can never attain perfection, we can just shave away at imperfection.

Perfection cannot be achieved. We can get NEAR it - but never to the perfection itself. That's why we SHOULD bother with bugtesting to get as much that buggy filth as possible.Graff wrote:Andoril, by your reckoning, we should never bother with bugtesting, because even though we may reduce the number of bugs, there are always bugs, so it's a thankless task. If really getting to the bottom of this, I'd say, that the whole perfection/imperfection matter is in each individual's head. Think about painting, for example: You do several hours hard work, shape every single inch of the painting, spend sleepless nights... Then you say "Now, it's ready! It's PURRRfect!" Ok, it hangs on your wall from few days to few weeks and you say: "Well it could have used bit this and that"
NOTE!: This amateur-philosophical thought is a stub.
The point is, at it's most simplest form: "I care SHIT about the destination! All, that matters, is the path!"Morden wrote: Quote:

I think you missed the point of this statement.
Correct me, if I'm wrong
That's not always true. What about tredmills and stationary bikes. What about a cross country runner in training who run 10 miles by himself only to come back to the place where he started
That's how I see my jouney. It's a chance to use my modding skills (or in my case art and music skills) on a project that can never truly be finished. I can get on and do as much work as I want.

Thats not exactly true. I would be more than willing to take a journey and not give a care where I ended up, if I even ended up anyware, as long as the road was interesting enough. If you make the journey, as in you yourself decided where it will end up and which road it will take, then you obviuosly have a destination in mind. But if someone joins you along the way, it might only be to enjoy the road. Perhaps they never want to reach a destination.

Ack, I just noticed Dexter's picture up top... I skipped it before...
Has anyone thought that both the journey and the destination can be equally rewarding? You can't have one without the other. Even if you are just wandering, you do have a destination, though you do not know what.
Now... Excuse me while I vomit on my computer screen from Dex's pic... I'm gonna have nightmares...
