Blabla, that will not run Oblivion, even with minimum specs.
The graphics card is low-end, but it meets qualifications (I have that same card)
You need 2.00 GHz for minimum requirements, so unless you can overclock that by 850 or more MHz, you're out of luck.
I think that you also need a minimum of 512MB of RAM (You definitely don't need a gigabyte.), but the requirements (top-notch to minimum requirements) are listed in the second post of this thread.

As for me and my computer, we will choose an ATI x1800XT. Personally, even with the recommended system specs, Morrowind was still choppy in a few places (like Balmora and Vivec). So, I figure it will be the same with Oblivion. I'm shooting high to get decent/good FPS with good quality graphics. Like has been said already, this game will be more graphics card dependent then CPU dependent. That's why I'm not getting the latest and greatest CPU, I'm kind of leaning towards an AMD 3800+ Venice (2.4ghz). As for memory, to run oblivion, you will definitely need at least a gig for it to run decent.
*No integrated graphics will suffice for oblivion*.
If you truely are a gamer then you would know that.

You make a good point sirwootalot. I figured that since the 7900 series was so new that it would be really expensive, like in the $500-$600 range. But it's cheaper and has better performance. But the 7900GT isn't the best card, there is the 7900GTX.
Edit: Actually there are some x1800xt's going for $300, just a wee bit cheaper than the 7900gt, for about $320. So basically it seems to me that the price vs performance is about the same. The 7900GT squeezes out like 5 or 6 more fps than the 1800XT. But like I said, only some of the 1800xt's are cheaper, most seem to be around $350.

your basic AGP slot looks like a smaller PCI slot if you look at your card you notice that the "grooves" that actually attach to the slot are further back than a PCI this should hep you figure out were it goes....
Now for instalation...
Turn off your computer or make sure your grounded to somethimg metal, no static electricity or your card is ruined.....
Remove the back plate on the same level as your AGP slot so the video end will "stick out." You may also have to remove another metal piece attached to the case, by screw, that holds all the back plate pieces together on the tower....
Now, insert the card, this is not a zero-force insertion so you may have to push a little, dont worry you wont break it... if your card came with screws there should be a little groove connected to a another pice of matal sticking out, this is were that metal piece, the one that held the back plates, was. screw in a screw to that notch of your card and screw back the metal plate that covered that flap.
Once inserted and you've closed the case and made sure everything is tight, hook up your moniter cable to the card you just instaled, audio also if it has the audio input.
Now start you computer.... Whats happend? If you moniter takes no action remotly close to comming on besides the light, troubleshoot you card's manual, if you have one.....
1) Is your card installed... Yea! At least I hope so!!
2) Does your computer beep more than normal on start up...
If so and you have your mother boards manual consult it for a list of beep codes... etc. etc.
If it does work it is now a good idea to uninstall your previous Graphics drive so that you can install this one and use it by defalt. Otherwise you may not even get any game play because it's running on the other card...
once all this is acomplished look for something a.k.a. MW that is very Graphic hungry and run it...
What does is look like?
Please tell me I want to know...

You'll have to uninstall the driver then restar you computer....
It will recognize the new card and the old chip in a pop up as new hardeware. Install the necissary componets of the card first, then ignore the other.
P.S. Ihere is a way to make the New hardeware detected pop up go away but i forgot....

Hmmm. You have a processor 800MHZ faster than mine (although I have a better GPU and more RAM) and I can play it on High, without any problems. The 9800 Pro is a good card, and should handle OB very well. (although it lacks Pixel Shader 3.0)Vholdrian wrote:I'm wondering if i can play Oblivion on high detail without FSAA / HDR / AF

Likely because that's below the Minimum System requirements. Minimum is 512MB... Recommended is 1GB.wishmaster wrote:It looks like Oblivion isn't friendly with my 256 mb RAM...

I've heard a story on the official forums about someone running it with a 1.8Ghz Athlon XP. It all depends on what kind of graphics card you end up getting. On a laptop, your choices are limited to one or two cards. Just make sure that you don't end up with integrated video only.
Yes, you should be fine from what you listed, although you should make sure your video/gfx card is supported.

omg
I got oblivion to run on these specs.
256 ddr ram
fx5200 128
p4 2.4
60 gig hard drive
I have only experienced 2 crashes graphics a crappy and it is very laggy, about 15 fps.
I manually changed my virtual memory to 1 gig I think this is why it is working.

I heard the Xbox360 lags alot in exteriors. Interior dungeons are fine, but exteriors are laggy.Eraser wrote:you *should* be fine with 512mb ram, since the xbox386 only has 512mb ram, but really, a gig is what you should have at least. Ram is the cheapest computer upgrade around, and adds alot of performance.
I'm curious as to whether my system will run it properly. I have a decent processor (roughly 2.5ghz) with 1gig of RAM. However, my video card is old: 5200FX (ye olde GeForce). I've had success with a few of the other high-end games, but I don't know how well Oblivion will work. I recognize the 5200FX bottleneck, but I have no AGP or PCI-e slots on my motherboard.
