Nedic and Yoku concept work

Post by Hayden »

While waiting for WSG #X (regarding the Nedic and Yoku groups) I went ahead and began work on some early concepts. I came up with a few proposals after doing some research:

(Note: This is mostly regarding civilization in the large western desert and north eastern wastes, as these seem to be the most likely places to find such ruins (Given the relative uselessness of the land, as well as how these elements tend to lend themselves to the preservation of Architecture.

Nedic Architecture:
-Hardened Clay Brick as primary material
-highly rigid, not at all organic.
-large and small bricks used (smaller in civil projects, larger for things like temples and fortification).
-Encased in a white plaster/clay like covering to protect the bricks from the elements; often worn down or nonexistent by this point.
-some use of primitive arches.
-square/rectangular columns.
-I drew most influences from Greek/Egyptian architecture.

Yoku Architecture Notes:
-Extensive use of earthen material.
-Wood more commonly used than with the Nedic peoples.
-Similar architecture to that found in Old Mournhold.
-Organic.
-Clay-over brick. Often painted decoratively.
-Some later buildings feature more brick.
-Common use of domes, especially the "Onion" variety.

Below are my renditions:

"Standard" nedic house. About the size of the average house in Morrowind.

My rendition of a Nedic temple (or something to that effect, it could be a kind of palace as well). Not sure about the kinds of gods the nedic worshiped, so this is likely innacurate.

This is a well I did. Initially, it was supposed to be Nedic, but I decided that given it's shape it was better suited for a Yoku well.

Note: In all cases, I've included the red outlines of the building to give an idea what they would look like complete.

I think this is the best artwork I've done yet, and I'm curious to see what people think of it.

Nice work. The architexture is clear and well planned. I'm not shure I agree with your take on thier style though. Lore says that the Nedic culture had great influence on the Redgaurds, and I dont see any greek influence in them. Maybe if it was in color I might see it as less greek looking.

As for this topic... There has, in fact, been a WSG on this topic. It was WSG #1 (before your time :))) it was something like "ruins surrender to shifting sands" or something. Back when morden came up with unnecissarily verbose descriptions every week!
