WSG#12 Swordsingers: Hall of Heroes and War.

Post by Morden »

WSG#12 Swordsingers: The Hall of the Virtues of War.

This is building is both the monestary and training ground for the Swordsingers. These temples are found in the most unforgiving of Hammerfell's climates. The original temples were in the deserts of old Yukoda, so it makes sense to assume you'd find a hall in the Alik'r. However, there are plenty of other rugged mountain regions in Hammerfell.

They built the first temple to the unknown gods of War and build a training hall "The Hall of the Virtues of War". Within a few generations the way of the sword - the song of the blade - had become their life.

I'll keep the blurb short this week. Feel free to draw either an exterior or an interior, though it would be nice if you could include a quick 2D sketch showing scale and profile for modelling.

Here's Dexter's sketch from the first WSG:

Long ago we discussed its possible use as a swordsinger temple.

Results for this week.

another place for their temples is in the mountains. There is one near skaven. I was thinking of something like this; http://www.worldisround.com/articles/21930/photo18.html

I think I'll give this a go too, but first of all, I'd like to say I am very fond of Dexter's design.

Here's the stuff about the Skaven Hall, its the only precise location given for any hall, and the closest thing to them saying something about Skaven.
Dendle even believes that out in the countryside outside of Skaven in one of the Halls of the Virtues of War, there are still people who follow the old ways and can from a Shehai or spirit sword.
Clearly, these people are very rare now and if there is also a desert hall, there is only the desert hall and the mountain hall.

Rare certaintly, though this phrase implys to me, that there is more then one.

That's true, when I read that I misinterpretted it as if it implied there was still a hall there, as if the idea of halls existing was ridiculous. That said, I think that 2 halls is plenty.

It seems to me that phrase says that there are more than one near Skaven... Though that doesn't seem logical for I do also think that there won't be alot of 'em, at least not a lot still working, perhaps there are ruins of old "Halls of the Virtues of War" though.

Here ya go.

A monestary perched high in the mountains. An open platform area for meditaion and sparing with a view. The majority of the monestatry is in the mountain itself.

I left out a lot of details (the saint statues and the pattern around the top). But you'll get the idea.

I'm working on a perspective version that may, or may not get posted.

Here ya go. It's noticably missing the "pattern" around the middle and the saint statues around the bottom. But I'm tierd.

Is anyone else working on this topic? Or is everyone busy with Oblivion?

Looks good, Macar, it really gives that secluded hidden place feel.

I might do something, I'm not sure but atleast I won't be busy with Oblivion, first of all I have to wait for it to come over to Europe, I don't think my computer can handle it and I hardly have any money...

Those look nice Macar :) The 2D sketch will definately make it easier to model. I 've been sort of sketching out an interior.. though I don't think it'll be very polished by the time I get it uploaded.

I was pretty proud of the prespective drawing becase; A) I tried using guide-lines for vanashing point and B) I didnt use a single photo-texture, it's all hand painted by me!

Looking forward to seeing other contributions.

Yea, I am busy with oblivion. Spending countless hours trying to find the theives guild is occupying the time.

great image Macar. I like the fact that it´s plain and not decorated to much. Seems in line with the concept of warrior monks. I don´t think you need any statues around the edge.

Thanks Silverwood. I think this WSG is suffering from 'Oblivion Release Week Syndrom'. :)

The game certainly has hurt my productivity :) I´m finishing my concept today though (Hopefully).

I like that your building is shaped like an arena Silverwood, that´s what it is right? But it isn´t the kind of building I would imagine to encounter in a desolate place. Maybe if it looked a little more worn and was sourounded by the ruins of a small town?

It was meant to look like an arena, where the fighter could
A.) have skirmishes
or
B.) Have a hallway to celebrate and study the elders of swordsingers.

My next one is alot different, alot more desolate, more of a home to people than a training ground. It has a living quarter and areas to meditate, to consentrate their power.

So here is my work in progress... It was a meant to be more detailed but time was scarce. I hope to finish it by the end of the week but as it is, it at least gives an idea of the enviroment I was imagining.

I wanted to make a desert with rock formations because it looks more imposing than dunes. And it can have more dramatic looking arcitecture. In front of the big stair there is a circle of pillars enclosing the training ground of the swordsingers. The stairs themselves is used to test the will of the students, by making them run up and down carrying heavy objects (Hong Kong movie style).

Opinions?

The sense of atmosphere and environment is excellent. :D It really adds to the awe inpiring feel of the school. You've also managed to capture a really ancient appearance that I feel is important, as the Halls are often refered to as something of the past. I think between Macar's isolated mountain concept, a your desert design, we've really captured a great look. Thanks for making this WSG happen during Oblivion week guys. :)
