Nomads: How about you put a more consistent, bass-ier percussion section in there, rather than the cymbal/tambourine, that would improve it a lot.

I'll have a look at Tension this afternoon.

Here's another go at combat music. It's so much harder than explore!

I like it! While it seems very arabian in style I think it would be great battle music for Hammerfell.

Just out of interest, are you going to do anything with your Nedic Ruins, or any other tracks that need touching up, you've made? Just curious as to what happens to all the tracks you churn out and are never seen again :)

That one's done. I was, btw, inspired to write that after hearing a Balineese Gamelan ensemble perform. Can you tell?

Here's a new one that I'm experamenting with. What do you think?

http://media.putfile.com/Caravan-36

As for unfinished WIPs, The only one I can think of is Nedic ruins. I scrapped that one, because I felt like it was just going the wrong direction and fixing it would require basicly starting over. If you think of any others, tell me. I might have just forgotten about them :)

Ahh, I was just interested to see if there were any track you worked on that were truely scrapped. What happened to Blurry, Frontline, Pirates, Toothless and the Calif's Daughter? I've not seen those on your putfile account and wondered if they'd been scrapped/changed in any way.

I love Dunedwellers now, it's perfect!

The Caravan one is good, the only think that struck me was the length and abrupt end, usually explore tracks last between 2-4+ minutes (at least in Oblivion and Morrowind) and kinda take their time to fade off. Otherwise is pretty atmospheric, I can imagine a bustling environment, slightly chaotic. Something along the same lines as Caravan (although more tense) would make a good battle track as well.

With the impressive amount of music that's been made for TR, I can see Hammerfell's music becoming less noticeably frequent than wa the case in Morrowind (and to a lesser extent in Oblivion)

Oh, those. Well, those were made before I got sibelius. I tired redoing a couple, but they just dont sound the same. I really like some of them :(

Caravan was intended for battle music- although it dosnt have pounding timpani's and roaring brass. I thought it would be nice for some variety. It's not finished yet, I just wanted to get some oppions before I finished it.

I was pretty pround of it actualy, because I did something realy creative. I dont have a bagpipe sample. So, I used a small ensemble (4 saxaphones, contrabassoon, and oboe) to recreate the sound of bagpipes!

The newest piece I'm working on is a remake of "glorious yokuda". It's the 3rd time I have rescored the tune and I'm really happy with it so far. Stay tuned!

It's been a while since anything got posted here.

This is something different. It's not supposed to be soundtrack music. It's a recording of real instruments. It's supposed to sound really folky- like something you might hear in a tavern or in the fields. This is just a little snippet of what they might play.

http://media.putfile.com/flutes

I want to raise the isue of having musicians in the game. I dont know if it would be possible: We could have them "say" the sound of the music, that would solve the audio part. But the real isue is how we could make them physicaly play the music. There's no way to do animations yet, right?

Can anyone tell me anything about the idea. Even, just from a technical POV?

It feels very isolated... like it doesn't have that full sounding epic feel of your other music. You get the feeling that its guy in a room with a recorder and another guy on a drum. It would make a good peice for hammerfell with more orchestra components... thats the best why I know how to describe it.

Well, that was the idea.
It's not supposed to be soundtrack music.
What I'm trying to say is: I think it would be cool if you could see NPCs playing instruments- it would really liven up a tavern scene. Or imagine hearing the distant pipes of a shepard.

What I'm asking, though, is if it is possible. If we can add animations and then make the sound of the instrument come out of the NPC I think it would work. The other problem would be coordinating ensembles.

Does anyone think this is possible? Or is it just a skooma pipe-dream

Can you script a volume-increase and decrease as you move into certain areas? That way as you pass, say, a town, the panpipe music could grow louder, and as you get farther away from said town, the music grows softer. Or is that another skooma dream?

I'm no scripter, but I doubt that that would be practicle. Maybe it would fade, but to do a cross fade into another track is something I doubt we could do.

I think this is worth starting a seprate thread to discuss. I'm going to start one. Let's move any comments there.

As your adoring fan on the website (By azura, by azura, by azura!) I have to say I certainly do! I still have the .wma and midi versions, but this one is the best :].

Love the retake, I think it would suit dungeon or sultry explore music really well, and it certainly has a slight arabian feel to it, I think its the tune, usable for Hammerfell I'd say ;).

I did it for you, mate :D

As for sounding Hammerfellish; Maybe vaguely (completely unintentional). Anyway, we do want some Hammerfell music that isnt middle eastern. In fact, I think the effect would be more dramatic if only the areas around that big desert (which I can never remember how to spell) played that music. I think it would increase the emotional impact of the desert.

Though I may be largely absent in body these days, I am not absent in spirit! Here are a few music thingys I've worked on (uploaded using a borrowed flashdrive).
http://media.putfile.com/Desert-heat
http://media.putfile.com/The-Warriors-Charge

The first is just some arabesque music- plain old exploration stuff.

The second is more of an experament than a finished peice. I used a choir (of me :) ) I tried to make it subtle- what do you think. If I decide to finish it I will recruit some friends so that there are some other voices in the choir. If youre wondering, btw, the words are in Quenya (tolkein elvish) They say: The warrior is bound; Servant to the lord, Guardian of the tower. There are more words for the rest of the peice if I manage to do the rest.

The Tower is for the Thief. The Warriors charges are the Steed and the Lord, the Thief's are the Tower and the Shadow and the Mage has the Aprentice and the Atronach/Golem.

Since I wrote that I have gone back to the book and realised that the warriors charge is: Lord, Steed and Lady. CRAP, now I have to rewrite the song :( Or, I suppose I could just leave it... nobody will understand it anyway.

Hey Macar, great to hear from you again mate :)

Liking "Fire Spirit", I think it would make either good tense dungeon music or battle music. Certainly has an edge of sorrow and desperation to it. *thumbs up*

I think it would work best as dungeon music...I mean in dungeons the music is changing all the time as you get into fights anyway. Its too slow for fight music.

Deeds 41 feels very subdued for combat music IMO. I dont know how else to describe it, but it hasn't got the edge "Fire Spirit" has. BTW, are you going to extend Fire Spirit into dungoen music?

I like Fieldstar, very soothing, if we do anything as complex as context/time-based music, this should definately be either wandering at night (in a relatively safe area) or during some (good) revelation in a quest.

Heh, I like the Dragonfly homage in Glorious Yokuda, nice touch there. I think its an interesting mix of musical styles, echoing the difference between Cyrodil and Hammerfell (in terms of difference between culture). One thing I dislike is the end, which feels a little abrupt. It would be pretty awesome music to have on the bordering edge of the 2 provinces, or on the startup screen.

Glad to see you've gone back to Glorious Yukoda. It always had a lot of potential... especially because of the mideast style that kicks in part way through. Fieldstar is very smoothing and calm as Orix already pointed out. It would make very nice 'Public' or 'Explore' track.

The last 25 seconds of Deeds, starting with the symbol clash is excellent.. so much tension. :D You've just about got enough for a full TR album. ;) I like it.

Thanks for the comments all. I'm glad you like Glorious Yokuda, I was trying to capture the feeling of all Hammerfell, from the desert regions to the more Cyrodillized areas.

I'll have another listen to Deeds and see if I can add some tension to it.

And Fire spirit will be hard to add too- the singing complicates it. I'd rather leave it as it is- even if that means we cant use it.

I'd like to point out, though, that not all the combat music in MW is tense and pulsing. some of it slow, and has a feeling of slow dread rather than wieghty terror.

Heres some new stuff:

http://media.putfile.com/Tafta-Hindi A march-like arrangement of an arabic folk song. I dont know if this will be usefull because it isnt really right for explore or for battle. I thought I'd post it anyway

http://media.putfile.com/Overture-to-a-day Here's something- I worry that it's a little to thematic. What do ya think?
