oblivion bolt on; Survival Suite

Post by viKING »

why?

because of this:
Effects:

Hunger:
Hunger drains str End and spd, as well as making you weaker to disease

Thirst:
Thirst drains endurance and makes you weak to disease fire and poisons.

Sleep:
Sleep drains nearly all stats just a bit. When you get really tired you start
to see things. IE you hallucinate monsters.

I don't know tr's stance on bolt ons and such for oblivion, but I believe we will make desserts and such in hammerfell and elsweyr, and this mod will make it more fatal to enter a dessert unprepared.

This is just a suggestion, but let me hear your opinions.

I think your waisting your time argueing for a bolt-on. But that does look like an awsome mod that I will definately use!
NEW MEMBERS: I'm not with TR anymore, so please stop PMing me. Just post your sample work in the showcase.

probably yes, but since I have been away for some time could somebody perhaps tell me if there is planned any kind of scripts to desserts?

if not, I feel dessert is a waste(ofcourse they have to bee there, since they are on the maps), beeing only poorly detailed landmasses with sand... if you know what I mean.

Perhaps we can script something for desert areas related to the weather. I remember on bloodmoon that blizzards would give frost damage (i think i saw it in the CS...i was a nord so i didnt notice). Maybe desert sunshine would drain fatigue?

We've had this discussion before. It ended up turning into an argument and made Upsilon leave:

Suffice to say mandatory survival isn't popular. Optional is ok, but AFAIK bolt-ons are no longer really being focussed on because they distract away from the main project. There could perhaps be some small effect of the desrt as Jale suggested. But please, nothing as annoying as having to drink water every two hours or anything :P.

As for how the Alik'r will be more than just a desert, there will probabaly be ruins to explore, dune dwellers to converse with, flora (albeit it not much) and fauna to see, and not to mention the "red mist" that seems to be around the area.

There's a book on it in Daggerfall that makes it sound a rather intriguin place. More than just a mundane desert.

Edit: Looks like I was too slow. :P

Dexter:
This idea is not something we will be including as an official part of TR. That's all there is to it.
If you want to make this as a separate mod and release it, then go ahead. There will be some people that like it, and some that don't. Normally this would constitude a Bolt-On, but Bolt-Ons are no longer an official part of TR.
If Bethesda doesn't make water necesscary for the player to survive, neither will we.

Morden:
Morrowind is not like real life, in fact you'll not find many games that are like real life, because it makes drastic changes to gameplay. One person may find it more immersive and difficult, but the next person might view it as a pain in the ass. It may expand gameplay for one type of gamer, but it is limiting for others.

Taken from this thread on the exact same subject:

Good read that.

Note that he stays out of the sun ;)

The more I think about it the more I like the idea that desert sunlight would drain fatigue. It just means you wouldnt be able to travel so fast, and would be susceptible to attacks if you were caught exhausted. It should be slow, but regen should be disabled. So if you head out into the desert, and walk for an hour in clear sky, middle of the day, you would be down to much fatigue by the end. An oasis could act as a restore fatigue area, and likewise potions.

But thats just my idea, anyway. Might not be great to put it as a feature of the mod, since the deserts of Morrowind (the ashlands) werent harmful unless you got the blight.

Bethesda believes that such things do not add to an Elder Scrolls game, so I really don't see us taking such a tangent from their philosophy.
'What if man is not really a scoundrel - man in general, I mean, the whole race of mankind - then all the rest is prejudice, simply artificial terrors and there are no barriers and it's all as it should be.'
