Hello, I am Casey Tucker, just promoted to modder. Great to be part of the team!
Now, I know there is a rather high chance that I shouldn't be posting here, or there is another forum for this sort of thing, or something, but I will take my chances, because I need confirmation on a lot of things.
First - My computer is only capable of running Morrowind and though I have not played Oblivion, I do plan on being a Morro-Gamer for a very long time now. There are great mods and texture replacers that make the game look nearly as good as Oblivion, with an "unlimited view distance" mod in the making. What disappoints me are rumors(?) of the entire team moving to Oblivion after the Morrowind province is completed. That would, of course, leave the original project incomplete. If TES V came out, would you abandon the previous engine and move on? I am very aware that we have not the workforce nor tools to get Morrowind's Tamriel done any time soon, or perhaps any time in these next few years. However, I did hear places that this is largely "modding for modding's sake" and there is not really a set "release date." I've heard many different answers concerning this and I'd like official confirmation.
Second, I've just checked out Morrowind's exterior maps - very detailed indeed. I think they beat original Vvardenfell by a long run. (The landscape is generally more realistic and beautiful. The cities and towns are large enough to realistically self-sustain themselves, unlike in Vvardenfell. I couldn't imagine living in vanilla Seyda Neen. And Old Ebonheart castle... Wow. Just wow.) I could easily tell the difference between map esps, as the region naming changed sequence (some had no regions and were all "boxed," and numbered.) Some seemed less complete than others. Now, back West, at Silgrad Tower and Black Light, it seemed the most complete. However, I am unsure if they are complete or not, because there were a lot of dialogue errors, everyone was very dull, and the streets were rather empty, despite large, extremely well designed towns. (Think Havish here...) I was wondering if they'd be given more "finishing touches" and given life. I can fix dialogue errors, and expand on it when necessary. That is my "area of expertise," per se.
Last is somewhat of a Lore-ish/geography question. I noticed that, while there were very different types of terrain depending on your location (a definate plus), most of the trees were dead. Is this because of Vvardenfell's affecting of the land around it because of Red Mountain, is Tamriel just a beautiful place with a lot of dead flora, or am I just seeing these well-done landscapes in a pessimistic view?
New Modder here.

Actually, I'm glad you posted here to introduce yourself Casey. No problems there. This tavern is for TR Modders.
To answer some of your questions, the whole team will not be shifting over to Oblivion. Some of us have already, and we're excited about Oblivion, but I believe the majority of people are still working on Morrowind. Work on both engines will be happening as long as there is interest. Nothing is shutting down. Morrowind will always been in the claims browser and the files will always be there to download/upload.
The most completed area of the Morrowind province is Map 1. There has been much exterior fixing and detailing, as well as interiors and NPCs. Yes, the NPCs are dull, but we like them that way for now. Consistency with bethesda's work was our goal.
Streets are empty in towns because they haven't been detailed.

It's good to have you Casey!Hello, I am Casey Tucker, just promoted to modder. Great to be part of the team!
As dear Mordy said, this is the tavern for modders, so no worries there mate. Now, I know there is a rather high chance that I shouldn't be posting here, or there is another forum for this sort of thing, or something, but I will take my chances, because I need confirmation on a lot of things.
Any and everything that I say to you on MSN is unofficial. I'm using logic and what I know about the project to answer questions, so forgive me if I spread misinformation. What disappoints me are rumors(?) of the entire team moving to Oblivion after the Morrowind province is completed.
Here was my logic:
I don't know how long it's going to take to get the Morrowind province done, aside from the fact that it's going to be a long ride. I'm supposing that TES: V will have at least Ben announced by then, and that Morrowind will become the equivalent of what TES: II Daggerfall is to us now. I was assuming those things, so that makes that a rumor and my opinion, that's all.
That is the general consensus, yes. However, I did hear places that this is largely "modding for modding sake" and there is not really a set "release date."
They are not complete by a long run, and I'm sure that TR will appreciate your help in finishing it.However, I am unsure if they are complete or not, because there were a lot of dialogue errors, everyone was very dull, and the streets were rather empty, despite large, extremely well designed towns. Just look at Map 1, and you'll see some of the best looking flora in MW. Map 1 is the northeast corner.Last is somewhat of a Lore-ish/geography question. It's good that you care Casey, I'm glad you're here. Feel free to ask away, it's what I and most others are here for. Also, try using the Search Feature to look up anything you wish to know. We archive pretty much everything.

Well, thanks for filling me in guys. I was unsure of a lot.. but now that I know Morrowind will keep being modded my enthusiasm has grown high again. Who should I talk to about working with Black Light's NPCs?
Though you are trying to stay consistant with Bethesda, which I understand, because you dont want any lower quality work, that shouldn't go to say that our work -cant- be -better- than theirs. If you don't mind, I'll work with these towns to make them much livlier than Morrowind's. I was Tamriel to feel -real.-
--Edit- And I've done it before. I know how to create the illusion of a lively town/battle/whatever, with the FPS in mind. I can get creative with scripting, and keep them FPS friendly.

Hi Casey, and welcome!
To answer your questions, i think the person that you should discuss NPCs with is Massy, as she's officially the NPC Mod...however, its probably better if we get all the exteriors/interiors done first before we start on dialogue. You could however plan out some dialogue and stick it in your showcase, then it'll be there when we need it I'm sure other people more in-the-know than me will advise you on what to do...
For now, we want our work to blend in with beths, so we keep things dull...however, some NPCs being more 'real' would be good, as long as it wasn't every single one.
On that subject, I think (as in me, not TR collectivly)
that after we finish the Morrowind province we should try adding more detail, meaning more realism (even to the extent of adding to vvardenfel). I only say this because after we finish morrowind, i doubt we'll start another province in the TES3 engine, so we'll need something to do! (those who can't run oblivion, like me, that is). Anyway, thats something to be discussed nearer the completion of Morrowind.
Now, i've got to say that i'm glad that your going to be a long-term MW modder, without turning to the dark side (OB)
oh, and happy modding!

In response, in my opinion, I'd rather work on other Tamriel provinces, after releasing Morrowind to the public. They modded Vvardenfell to be realistic.. I'm 98% sure they'll start modding Morrowind too. Personally I don't think we need to detail it to the point of modded Vvardenfell.. just give them all a good "Bethesda quality, or a little better" template, and the modding community will take it from there.
