can't run oblivion

Post by final reclaimer »

if anyone was on the silgrad forums you might have already seen this.

my computer can't run oblivion due to minimum system requirments. does anyone have any suggestions to what i could do?

my computer has an intel pentium 4, with 1.72ghz (required: same thing but with 2ghz)

i have 504mb of ram (required: 512mb)

i don't know about the rest but it prolly comes up hort as well.

any suggestions, other than 'oldblivion' (because you can't mod with that)

i am also 14 (no funds), and a new computer is still a couple years away.

any ideas?

Errr........

Good Luck :P

Reason I say that, is because there is a minimum for a reason. And teh RAM, is a big problem, ask around for and someone might find you that mod that helps people with slow systems, yours just might be like a relic though (in the nicest possible manner :D)... so sorry :P

you might be alright with the ram give your computer more virtual memory. I am running it with 256mb ram and 2.5gb of virtual memory.

Erm, well you could buy some better cooling for your CPU then overclock it to the right frequency, then buy the smallest amount of ram you can get from ebay.

Sorry, i sorta skimmed after the specs...or did you edit that in later? Meh anyway...

RAM is pretty much dirt cheap these days. If push comes to shove and you do need new parts, RAM isnt exactly going to break the bank.

The processor is likely to be more of a problem. Upgrading a processor is expensive, and one of the hardest things to install. Frankly, if you want a better processor, it could be cheaper and easier to buy a whole new system.

the most important thing is the graphic card, so whats your graphic card? a 1.7ghz processor should not be a big problem, it would only lag more and make longer loadingtime

When I first bought Oblivion, I was running on a 1.52ghz processor, with a gig of ram and a 128 meg video card, and I could play on just a touch above the lowest detail settings. Sure, I didn't get any fancy lighting/anti-aliasing effects, but I could play it.

I'd say hit the ram and the video card first. You can get a gig of ram for like $100. If you can't convince your parents to fork it over, start collecting and recycling bottles, I used to do that when I was younger.

You can get 1GB of RAM for like... $70.

This is where I do all my computer shopping:
http://www.newegg.com/
best prices, and either free or very low priced fast shipping (usually like 3 days)

Pick up new video card asap. You can get a budget card and some more RAM for under $200. Once thats installed you shouldn't have any trouble. I ran Oblivion with integrated ATI x200 graphics and a gig of RAM. Thankfully I upgraded, but it still played, although I got lots of lag in large battles and such. Oh well, good luck!

Your system undercuts the requirements a bit, but it's probably easier to cool your proc and overclock it, and get new ram, but make sure it goes with you mobo, I got the wrong ram one time and it runs for half of what I bought. Of course, my comp's overkill to the point it's not even funny.
