@Sload: I agree on the Ruptga thing, I wasn't satisfied with him, and he seemed too bare (no true discerning symbols). Fortunately, that's the beauty of this forum: correction and revision . I'll make him more fatherly, and try to obtain some of that flippant bhudda-esque grimace I was going for. I'll make sure to avoid the instectoid look that Tava's been getting lately
And no worries, Sload, Morwha's going to look very fertility goddess. That four breast thing is a good idea, I'm going to use that.
@Lady: Most unfortunate, LadyN, is that I reproduce by budding

No seriously Lute, they're (again) of very good, most outstanding, jaw-dropping & tearjerking quality. 100 % Lute.

Yeah, well teh warts aren't real.
Jabba had her put on warty make-up appliances that hid her true beauty. With these Huttese "beauty patches," Gargan reminded Jabba of his parent. Yarna quickly became Jabba's favorite dancer, calling upon her soothing sand-wave ballet when he couldn't sleep.

very nice Lutemoth, my only objection is that they all seem to be that kind of iguana, is that soemthing that the gods have to have? I imagine people like Reptga being more..... imperial. I had a go at him, but he was far too imperial and weak looking, I will have another go. And admittedly I did do it in about 15mins after Slaod had asked, so he looks pretty darn stiff. Apologies.

I agree, it is odd but extremely original it's ingenious. But they are all iguanas (or whatever animal) maybe try another animal... espcially since I don't think Ruptga should be so reptilian. But I love the other two, have to add that. Escpecially god of far shores.... LOVE that, even the concept before. That is awesome-ness.
EDIT: Also Lute... I know you ahve posted a few times, but what are those pencils called that you use.... you said somethign in your earlier pages about it being great for finer shading. I am considering investing.... I am sure mine are from a Happy meal or a Tesco's somehwere in Croatia .
Thanks

I agree with Sload somewhat. While nice pieces of work, they look too inhuman. To some extent, it's good to have slightly different gods, but I personally like Macar's and Pound's versions better, and would rather see those sort of statues in the game. Maybe Pound's could still have spines or whiskers or a snakes tongue, or maybe even have slightly scaley skin. I just think, for this particular god, it should be more human.

I decided to prove once and for all that I cannot draw.
I can, however, draw just enough to give the idea.
Mostly, this is for the pose of the statues and for Ruptga's face, as I'm not too happy with Morwha's mask. Ruptga should also be looking down and to his right, so that if the statues were only a little ways from eachother they'd be looking at eachother, and while they are apart they would just be looking. I cannot draw hands or feet, so I didn't. Ruptga should be happily having his arms spread, maybe his left one holding something but probably not. Morwha should be grabbing. His right and and her upper left should look like they're about to touch when together.
I also included a bone structure for her shoulder, a triple humeral head, flor clarily.

Maybe someone could prettify and yokufy it all.

You don't know how pertinent and useful this is being, guys, and I'm taking into design both Pound and Sload's work definetly.
As for the inhuman lizard look, I understand where you're coming from, Pound. In all cases, dieties designed in earth cultures all reflect themselves in one way or another. Here's my reasoning I've internally worked out, so bear with me:
While they look inhumanly contorted, they began as simple mask wearing Regada dieties, very human. However, as artisan improves upon artisan, some features stay the same (masks), while some are exaggerated (physical features being oddly contorted, ect.)..
Combine that with a long history of artisanship (Leonardo-worthy), and a light humor of the physical being of these gods (hardly any god's going to look buff, unless need be) equates to some odd humanesque beings with old symbols of their origins.. Some of the more cosmopolitan cities, as the descriptions read, are more nine divine-ish
Long story short, disinclude this old Ruptga I've drawn, as he looks too plain and monsterish. Mind you, this design of gods doesn't necessarily dictate it's the end-all be all style. It's more than likely these statues are less common, and the style Macar and Pound have set forth would be modern influence of art, and have dominance in more cities

I doubt that it will be worthwhile to model more than one statue of each god.Lutemoth wrote:It's more than likely these statues are less common, and the style Macar and Pound have set forth would be modern influence of art, and have dominance in more cities

I heard my name in this thread. For those of you who werent around in the antideluvian period, this is the statue of Ruptga I drew in WSG 4: http://img30.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tallpapa2cx.jpg
For the record I agree that Lute's god statues are teh c00lest, but I also agree that ruptga does look too much like a bug or and insect. I like that look for some of the gods, though. However, it seems like you've got another version on the way. Cant wait to see it.
PS> I'm proud to feel like I contributed to the mask wearing idea

Meant to post this before Macar did but got BSOD so if soem of it sounds out of context that
That’s my best speech at TR and probably the only properly heart felt one
Read my thread, I did some more explaining there. just read it, don't post please I intend to continue on that.
Don't get me wrong Lutemoth, I am not saying that you're designs aren't great. We all know that they are excellent. Infact they're much better than excellent. I have been studying your work, and previously never saw the special side of it. I lacked the observance. I couldn't see the special thing about your drawings and sketches, that made everyone so excited and make everyone want your babies. Ofcourse I could see how good you were, and I knew that from a design point of view I could never achieve any of your standards. And now that i do understand, I am just plain envious and in awe of your work, as Sload pointed out to me, it's the culture you've created. It's very blatantly what people were looking for, or what people now define as Hammerfellian culture. And it's great, because with gods, you can go to town... They're prophets, no ones seen or recorded them definitely. So mould this culture you have made around them! You can make them anything you want. So do that! Do what you are amazing at, and make each god UNIQUE and ORIGINAL.Lutemoth wrote:You don't know how pertinent and useful this is being, guys, and I'm taking into design both Pound and Sload's work definetly.

Sorry for the delay, I've been busy with the final bits and bobs of helping move my sister into her new place. Les get to work, now:
Zeht and Ruptga, inspired heavily by the community. I'll put up the planar views in a bit.

Why not?I can't imagine South American style statues being placed amidst Islamic style buildings
1) You are a concept artist, it's our job to imagine
2) Ofcourse you can't imagine it in a real life situation.... It's Hammerfell not the middle east.
I think they are great. Nothing brand new in there, but just what we need. I think Scumbago you have to adjust to the masks (the thing that makes it look almost Aztec) and accept it as a part of Yokudan culture. It's like nothing we have seen on Earth, and the masks would have no doubt been worn to block out sand and evolved into the fabled gods faces.
I also had a problem with it, but I like them now. And i know when i get back and have time to draw, I will draw things more to this style. Althoghu keeping my drawing style.

Simply put, in the same mantra Sload has used as I've adopted,
"It's not earthly if you make it Yokudan"
I'm sure it won't look mayan when it's modeled, or colour-coded at the least (despite that mayan was much of my inspiration)
A few things to share that I found in my compy's archive. Originally, this was quick doodles I've shared with Eyeball (A few were designed for the Quagmire questline)

Hardly anything useful, but perhaps some expansion on the whole sakataal thing

I love the hand traps Lute, but I am not so sure about the Quagmire Portal. But I suppose it'll fit if thees a theme of eyes and stuff.

In almost all 2d depictions of ruptga, the snake's head on his collar is always depicted showing fully, in the opposite direction of Ruptga's gaze, much like Akatosh.
I've also changed Zeht's sickle into an odd scythe, in order to look different from death's tool, and be more burdoning, rather than a weapon-like object. In retrospect, it looks a lot more like Pound's conveyance, which enforces it as a wise choice.
As for the quagmire portal, I wasn't too happy with it either. I guess I was going for the whole the eyes are the window to the soul sort of thing.
