Recommendations: Atmospheric Sound Effects By Duncan

Post by Mindbasher »

I don't know if this is the right forum, but I have an idea:

Ask the creator of atmospheric sound effects if you can use his sounds, it would greatly improve the athmosphere of the big cities, small villages, great forests... (you hear people talking, water flowing, insects in the trees, etc.)

Maybe you can do something with it...

I agree. This is one of the very few plugins that I never remove. Since each sound is placed individually, this will be a rather large task, but a good attition to TR. And now for that ticklish question: since all these sounds take quite a bit of processing power, should this be part of TR or a bolt-on? Before you "vote", try it out. My old system was slowed to about 1 frame per second with it activated!

Bolt-on without a question. I wouldn't agree with anything that would cause such a fps hit being official. I just upgraded my video card and morrowind runs perfectly smooth(i thought it did before, but I was wrong then) I don't want my performance to be any lower again!

I agree with Greybeard, for higher-end systems (1+ Gigaherz) it is a MUST. It just adds so very much to Morrowind. And it hasn't been deactivated once since it was installed in my system.

The creator is, as far as I know, Puma Man. I don't know in which way he and TR separated (he was a member once), but I'd vote on using it anyway, after all it's open source stuff, and Puma uses other mods' stuff as well ...

However, if need be, I'm a member of Puma's forum, and I could post there, asking if TR is allowed to use the sounds.

as far as i know, ASE is not pumamans, thats wilderness sounds is pumateam

ASE was made by another modder, though they still work great together, really adds atmosphere

EDIT: just looked it up, ASE was made by Duncan

Indeed this should rather be a bolt-on. Otherwise, it would be strange since Vvardenfell wouldn't have all these fine sound-effects, but the rest of Tamriel would ;)

ASE is one of my favorite plugins though, so I'd really want to see it as a bolt-on for TR. Along with the original ASE, it could bring much to the overall feeling of the game.

I tried ASE once. I didn't like the way my axe sounded when I swung it. It sounded like old macintosh sound effects. It's better that this would be a bolt on :P.

I see...

But the "It would be strange since Vvardenfell wouldn't have all these fine sound-effects, but the rest of Tamriel would"-thingie is total bullsh*t... WHO CARES!? If people want nice sounds on Vvardenfell, they download ASE 3.0 + updates... TR is *a different* plugin, and has nothing to do with ASE, exept that it (maybe) uses the sounds from ASE... TR is about the mainland, so you guys just make the mainland a beautiful place, everybody's happy, and people can decide later if they want Vvardenfell to be beautiful too...

But anyway, maybe you should create 2 versions of the TR project, one with the sounds from ASE, one without... then everybody is *truly* happy...

Well, basher, that's basically what a bolt-on is about.
Some people will not be able to properly play ASE (or not be willing, if they're extreme purists), we need to make TR appeal to them, too. TR basic will thus be pretty bare compared to a spiced-up Vvardenfell, using the two most popular sound upgrades (ASE and Wilderness Sounds), so we'll make a separate plug that places similar sounds all over the mainland (our very own sound pack). Maybe we'll even make an ASE:Tamriel Rebuilt special edition, which merges both the latest ASE and the Bolt-on.
If that's what you meant, consider your idea implemented ;)

If I just looked up the word "bolt-on" in the dictionary, I would know what you guys all meant...

but I guess that's what I meant... or something... (damn it! I need to improve my English...)

Could we contact the creator of ASE and see if he'd (she'd) like to help implement the program in TR? He might have some good ideas for other sounds as well.
