WSG#20[F]: Unique and common Redguard clothing

Well, well, well! Weekly Sketch-Group number 20! Quite a time it's been since it was first incited. Now, let's get down to business, shall we?

I supposed the WSG could get a jostle of topics again, as we've still a ways of shaping some of the nooks n' crannies of the Hammerfell vision. While quite a few citizens could reuse Imperial clothing, There's still the matter of the fact of the Redguard fashion. Mind you, this is not meant to be a ground-breaking topic, so have fun as always.

- Remember that the clothing style should retain logic. What class does it belong to? Why is it worn? What region is it most useful?

- The Redguards are a proud and uninhibited people, but they are also a culture of functionality often over design. How does this reflect in their attire?

We are all familiar with the standard Arabian style often come to associate with Hammerfell, but remember that this is not a Persian culture. It's Yokudan-Redguard. It's certainly fine to borrow earthly archetypes, but in the end, a stranger should look at it and say "he's a Redguard"

I think most of the ordinary Redguards don't wear too much clothing, while the wisest and mosts powerful of them wear stately robes. Young noble(wo)men could perhaps wear simple Grecian style tunics and slippers. Working class people should wear a loincloth, and the women should wear a shirt and pants with short sleeves/trouser legs. Mitres for the high priesthood.

BTW: I HATE the way that OB forces women to wear skirts- even items with names like "breaches" magicaly transform into dresses when you put them on! Grrr...

Lets not do that in our mod, m'kay?

Working class people are working. They have enough money to buy things like.. you know... pants.

I can see where you are comming from Harke (I'm picturing pharonic Egypt), but I agree that loincloths wouldnt look right in Tamriel.

I think that people are often less clothed than in Cyrodiil because they are liberated and what not, but that everyone has clothes. Real clothes.

Here's the 1st submission for this WSG, the first one I participate in after a looong time! I've already posted this in my thread as well, so I'll probably make another.

I imagined this guy as a special kind of guard, armorless and kick-ass -something like the Blind Moth priests, but less blind and more cool. Perhaps a VIP bodyguard.

color forthcoming.

Here's the fall line from Camsann Hawker. First we have a casual look. This outfit is designed to have that Cyrodillic chic but with yokudan flair. Next we have a more formal outfit- any head of state or scribe will be stylin' in this traditional Hammerfell ensemble. Finaly, for the working man- you can still look good! These afordable and lightwieght garments are perfect for a man on the job!

If they look like they are posing- I succeeded.

Any idea as to which sorts of clothing we'll need for which cities and sects? It would be nice to know if there is any particular trend in the Rihad area of Hammerfell or not. But I suppose one piece of Redguard clothing is the same as the next. I'm thinking of what to try.

i am duing Forbear, Crown, Both, Unique, and a few Regionals (eg. mountain regions or sailors) in my real concepts.

so, here are my pieces for so far today. i decided to go with beth's shirt in the guide for insperation. center is a redrawing of it in more flat style, and the one below that the female version.left of that is another variation on the shirt (for female just add boobs and waist). next to that is a robe in teh same style.

next we have a more random picture. on the left is a shirt with an appron/surcoat over it. i have no idea why i drew it, but i like the design. right is a poor forbear dress (just add pants for male outfit)

Lady N, the first concept in your second submission there is brilliant. I suggest that for males, that part that looks like a skirt would be an apron of sorts, so that from the back, from the waist down you'd see his slacks.

A common robe:

In a minute that guy is going to slip into the water, and Grace Jones will be VERY angry she lent him her new clothes.

My humble offering:

When I say tribute to concept artists, by the way, I am in fact only referring to one, who's name I forgot, but as it was done in an impersonation of his style I'm sure you'll know who he is, or my drawings are lousier than I think. Well, it should be fairly straight forward, so I think that's all. By the way, I disagree with the idea that most people would be lacking a shirt, and especially not only in loincloths! (I don't want to imagine what would happen if an OB BB would be released). Maybe some builders might take off their shirt at working ours, and the poorest of the poor might only afford tattered breaches, but any more and my pickiness will be unsatisfied. :P

Edit: Spelling, grammar and a formatting error. If only I could write, I might make it in the Literature Forums...

jesus, N.

well, i suppose i wasnt expecting a laod of rubbish for you, but i think that robe on hte first page is just coolness. And as for teh Surcoat kinda thing, or whatever, if you look at the gurads of Cyrodiil, it's similar, but it has a tinge of HF to it. I really think this should be guard armour. I know im no lore person, but it seems so perfect for it.

Harke, who's Grace?

Gnomey great to see you submitting, and we all know teh guy, those are quite unique and different pieces of clothing, nice job.

Andres, it's bloody red. No it's bloody red. But ofcourse a very useful piece of functional art. great submission :D

This has been quite a good WSG so far.

(In reply to Macar, and this sounds sort of defensive, so don't take it in that light, I actually totally agree. :D)I know, but I the idea came from the Redguard comics, though it looks like Hitchcockian (How do you spell that name?) buisness attire. Suits like these were, I believe, actually already made as early as the 17th century, so as long as you make it look simple and loose enough, and put the occasional ornate vest on, I'm sure it can be pulled off. (Actually, the suit with vest will have to be it's own version...). Oh yes, the cloth itself also won't look as though it were made of modern nor even high quality material and I think that the silver plated buttons lend to the modern feel. The only reason that they're there is because more fitting, bronze buttons would make it look too much like a transition between rusty brass for the poor and shiney gold for the rich.

The pants are more like violet. I have this particular character at home. I've lost the burgundy jerkin,
and I don't seem to recall the belt.
