Gahhh! Not another console!
OBLIVION ANNOUNCED FOR
THE PLAYSTATION 3 AND PSP SYSTEM
We are pleased to announce that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will be a launch title for the PS 3 and that The Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion will be released on the PSP in 2007. Check out the complete details in Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine’s exclusive cover story, which hits newsstands Oct. 10 and read the full
press release here: http://www.elderscrolls.com/home/home.htm .
Why do I have the feeling that the Wii is next? This just proves that Bethsoft is in it for the money.
And of course everyone knew this, but as I haven't seen a thread, I decided I might as well.

Oh my god!
Can you handle it everyone? I can't. I am outraged! Bethesda has.. (I'm not sure I can say it) released their bestselling game to another market.
Dispicable. Absolutely dispicable. What right do they have to try to earn money? It's like they're a business or something! I am simply beyond shocked. They make a game, it sells well, who would think that they would port it to a different console? Good god. Good god.

seriosly though, bethesda sucks big hairy donkey balls when it comes to making hand-held games.
example:
oblivion for cell phone was so retarded i almost broke my screen on my phone. they ripped me off for $10. never again.
now for PS3, i would have to see this. PS3 is said to have THE ABSOLUTE best graphics, better than SeXbox 360.
though before i think they would release another game for CPU, where they get the most sales, it is expected for OB to be released for another system.
alot of people dont have Xboxs. some prefer PS2s. i know i do.
but more importantly, we all love computer. because no matter how bad PCs can get, they can be upgraded unlike Xboxs.
(i go on to give a 3 hour speach on this subject.)
...and this concludes, the end of the world, oreos, and fried chicken.

Oblivion on Wii would be awesome... I dont see anything wrong with Beth milking their cash cow by releasing it on other systems. Sure, the little addons are crap, but having it across all consoles is a promising sign.
First it means more Elder Scrolls fans, and RPG fans alike on those consoles can enjoy the TES universe. Second, it means more money for Beth, which means a larger buget for TES 5 and Fallout 3, how can this be a bad thing?

Ok, think for a minute....
Before we thought we had it great when TES was ours and the obbsesion of an elite group. Now we see lots of mindless "gamers" poluting our universe.
But it really isn't that bad when you think about it. I won't care until Bethesda starts changing the Elder Scrolls series into something different. Now I know some say the TESIV was "dumbed down" and I do agree in some areas. But its still a great a game, and we're still devoting lots of time to it.
If TESV turns out to be crap, then its too bad. Bethesda will have lost the respect (and the custom) of alot of great followers. Until then though you can't say that Bethesda's release of Oblivion on Wii or PS3 is really all that bad. Sure Bethesda sold out, but we can still enjoy ourselves.
And thats the key.
edit:
god do i come off as being hypocritical

No-one seemed to notice Slaods sarcasm, above all of the actual serious comments reflecting the same feelings as his.
However, I agree with the majority, and I have time for the console hating....
Especially when they get the addition of this kinda stuff:

*sucks in deeply and starts to bellow in a patriotic voice*
Elder Scrolls was focused at a niche market fascinated by the plentiful, simple or intricate lore. It was focused at a market, of people who live in their bedrooms in the pitch black. And live on filthy diet of Runecsape, rather than food. Or occasionally more normal people.... However, the point remains, it was never about the leetzorz swordplay... or the Awesome Sauce Graphics.... It was about the weird and wonderful provinces of tamriel, boasting weird and wonderful fauna, and flora. Taking it to Cyrodiil, and putting it onto the 360 with mediocre lore in a medieval European feel, boasting your usual RPG crap... just slaughtered the franchise. and Unless Beth is earning up money to blow us PC users away when they rejuvenate their lore and coolness, then it is damned to the PS3.
PS: Slaod, i think it's spelled despicable

My point is, they don't care about our market anymore. They don't care about releasing their materials to the modding community. They would much rather sit and watch us struggle to practically HACK our models into the CS than to bother with the modding community. God forbid they do anything to make it easier or more enjoyable. Yet, they can cater to the needs of the console community 24/7 and do everything they are asked to do, unfailingly. Why? Because they pay more, and therefore are more important. If someone told Pete Hines that he'd be able to make another 100 sales by licking their feet, he'd do it. I'd be surprised if TES 5 was even supplied with a CS.

By all means, at least someone will be making some money.
Let's just hope they don't forget what made TES so famous to begin with.
I don't care what happens after Oblivion, but:
1). It will be even smaller.
2). It will have even higher polycount
3). It will run even suckier
4). It will have only three NPCs per continent

A man can be optimistic. I had put far too much faith in Bethesda. I assumed that they simply HAD to put out something for us by now. I was wrong, and thus I'm posting this thread, because I have been let down, and want to whine about it. (And Pound's screenshot suggests that all the additional content to be recieved by the PS3 will of course be made into a two-dollar mod by Bethsoft.)Sload wrote:Which, of course, is only because of the release to the PS3 and wasn't abundantly clear 6 months ago.

Zenimax owns several companies. One of them is Bethesda Softworks, which publishes games from several development studios, one of which is Bethesda Games Studio.
When people say "Bethesda", they usually mean "the devs", so it's BGS, not actually Bethsoft.
And the "mobile" games are made by the cleverly named "Vir2L Studio" and published by Bethsoft.
On topic: They can port their games to all the consoles in existence, I don't give a damn, really. Oblivion is already released. It's not like they're going to dumb it down some more, republish it, then send goon squads to retrieve your Oblivion PC discs, break them, and replace them by the newfangled "now with more console-stupid!!!" version.

Quite honestly, I've never been a console man. The most modern thing I've accomplished outside a PC was hook up a friend's iPod to a stereo. But it's always been a nervous twitch for the elderscrolls community, hasn't it? Everyone accused Bethsoft of holding back the CS, when in fact they made it available online for those who wished to have it.
I've assumed If you don't have what's in the game for you, why don't you mod it?. That's the route several thousands have done without the bat of a lash, and thousands more have downloaded with no less of a neuron to acknowledge it! What's the big problem?

Sload, whatever your comments in this thread, know you have my full support (for the first time, possibly the las as well ;P). Guys, Bethesda softworks is an company. They do business. B-u-s-i-n-e-s-s. If they did what they did for their and our pleasure, they'd be modders. Of course they'll launch Oblivion for PS3, of course they'll launch TESV for XBox 720,45, of course they're gonna suck the cash cow dry.
And if you still want to see all things from the dissapointed PC gamer's position, who feels like a child whose mother neglects it in order to tend to its baby bro, check this fact:
TESx is launched, and 1k PC copies of the game are in the market. What does a PC need to play a pirate copy of a game though? Just a crack, no more! So, from this 1k, only half of it will be sold.
Tesx is launched, and 1k PS3 copies of the game are in the market. What does a PS3 need to play a pirate copy of a game? A whole chip. What's that pirate chip's cost? 150 bucks (euros/dollars, they're pretty much the same) in the first couple of years, and 80-100 after them. Keeping in mind that such a chip takes more than a year to hit the market, you understand how much more profit the company has from the consoles.
I think that sums up everything.

haha, PS3 will be fine (although seems a little comercial for a TES game, being as the XBOX is nearly a pc anyway) but i guess there just trying to expand there market and target audience. surelly Daggerfall would be better suited to PSP tho... or maybe Arena....

it's a waste of space console and will only downgrade and demean the TES series. i was thinking that it'd handle Daggerfall alot better than and Oblivion knock-off

Meh. Cell phones are evil, alright; but I don't see how a TES-inspired cell phone game is threatening. I'll eat my crows if the next episode of the main series is coded foremost for the Nokinsson Gizmo7890 and then ported to the PC.
Heh, actually, I may buy a PC port of Shadowkey, if it's sold as a cheapo "budget" game. You know, the $10-when-brand-new games. Yeah, I think I would.

LB has a good point. Why does Bethesda add cooler stuff to Xbox and other games? Example: In Morrowind for PC when you get the skull of Llevule Andrano, it's a plain skull. But in the Xbox version, the skull was covered in these bloody ritual markings. I had Xbox first so when I played the same quest on the PC I kept telling myself it's not here. Finally I realized that Bethesda had not made a special mesh for the skull, which goes against Sharn's description.
i think it's mostly because games consoles can usually handle games like Oblivion and Morrowind a lot better, and they have the ability to look that much nicer. Generally, pc's are mroe expensive and most people will have a lower spec one. I know Oblivion for me runs on just above minimum settings. and even then it's slow and my PC is good

It isn't really that bad, and most people seem to be thinking Beth is going... bad. Not the case, they're a company, and the only thing I'm frustrated at them for is the official plugins that fill in places that should have been in the game to begin with (orrery, etc...). But my arguments aside, this shouldn't be considered that bad, why is it so bad that more people will be able to play Oblivion (people who can't afford computers that can actually play Oblivion at high speeds)?
You know what's funny ? That while Tamriel has more than enough lore Knightly orders already Beth had to invent another shallow, stupid sounding and absolutly generic looking Knights of The Nine with a Red Ruby (Septim symbol basically) as an insigna. I mean it seems like all and every lore person who ever worked on Beth left. Because why, WHY invent a new stupid knightly order why you can take an already existing one and make lore people happy too ?
