Brea83's Showcase

Post by Brea83 »

Well, it's going to be my showcase, eventually.

I am a 2D artist, but I currently have no Tamriel related art to show you. I was working on a nymph piece a few days ago, inspired by the daggerfall source A Scholars Guide to Nymphs. But the piece bombshelled, I cant paint water for beans. I was trying to depict the grotto the book refers to.

But anyway, on to why I decided to post even though I have nothing to show yet. I am interested in learning to texture, but the only art program I have is Paintshop Pro version 7, and I tried to download a plug in for it, but it continues to refuse to work. Is there anything that can be done? Do I simply need a different program?

Thank you for your time.

firstly, hello! and welcome to TR.

well, i use PSP7 to do a lot of textuering work and then just import to photoshop so i can export in .dds format. As far as i know there aren't any plugins for PSP to export in this format. Your best bet would be 'obtaining' a copy of Photoshop CS2 and the .DDS plugin for it.

i'd be happy to teach you what i can about textuing and the mapping required or there are plenty of other people on TR who know so just send me a Personal Message or add me to MSN and i'll try an help...

also, your showcase doesn't need to contain anything TR related, it's used to show off your skills in any area you wish to work with. just have a look at other people for inspiration :)

Thank you for the welcome. I'm working on getting all my art uploaded to the net, so for now I'll just post some of my older stuff. I'm also working on getting a program that can deal with .dds's, but Photoshop is not an option at the moment. I saw something on the forums that I'm going to try, so with luck I'll be able to start learning to texture quite soon.
In order from oldest to newest.

From when I played nwn religiously, in 2002 I think, maybe '03 though. It ticked me off that the shifter class could only change into male driders, so I drew a female one.

A study for one of my characters, this is from sometime in 2003. I really need to start putting dates on my work.

Another character study, the background is a manipulation of a photo I took around the time I drew the character.

A self portrait I made of myself in 2005, I used a photo of myself from the previous year as a referance for the pose.

A colouring that I did earlier this year. Unfortunately I dont have much else from this year to show yet, as I havent quite gotten my scanner to work right.
This piece used another artist's uncoloured sketch as a base, go check it and his website out. http://www.nivbed.com/pages/ast1.htm
(And if what I did is not entirely legal do tell me, I dont want to get in trouble.)

Note: I cant recall how to make photobucket links into thumbnails, or if it's possible at all, can anyone help with that?

Good looking stuff there Brea. Though a little anime for my personal taste :P

Looks like your skills are pretty solid, though. It would be nice to see some TES related material from you. Neat atmospheric pictures are nice, but what works best is a peice with an idea behind it (the way a particular group dresses, the way a certain creature moves/attacks, how a particualr item should be decorated). and so on. Just a pointer for you. :)

Welcome, btw.
NEW MEMBERS: I'm not with TR anymore, so please stop PMing me. Just post your sample work in the showcase.

Very clean work, there. If you don't mind me inquiring, are those the first sketches, or finished lineart?
A Dark Elf man killed his wife after catching her making love with another man. When the magistrate asked him why he killed her instead of her lover, the man replied, "I considered it better to kill one woman than a different man every week."

Oh dear. I only posted my finnished works.
I think you all are confusing the illustrious Nivbed's work with my own. All the art found at the link http://www.nivbed.com/pages/ast1.htm does not belong to me at all! I merely put colour to one of his sketches, and because of that I linked to his work to give him his credit. He's very much an artistic rolemodel for me, I hope to be nearly that good someday.

Stick around and you'll be that good.

Anyway, A bit too anime for me too, however, it is a WAY more than valid format, everyone ahs their own styles, and this stuff is good. Lets see some sketches of your own original work thoghu please, and something TR related.

Strictly speaking, it is Manga. :P

I really like your drawings and find nothing uniquely Japanese about them.

You'd find people who would argue that point.

I am not one of them.

I like it. You would do well to seek out Fractal Painter. Your style looks like it would do well with the tools that application offers.
