Archaeological Society

Post by Hemitheon »

I was sitting here at my cigarette butt choked desk and thought wouldn't it be cool if there was an archaeological society on the mainland? Maybe it's the nerd in me I dont know. But maybe it could have quests and stuff, like assignments: help so and so clear out blah blah ruins. Or retrieve a set of stone codices dating from the time of Veloth's exodus, stuff like that. Plus it could have its own museum, showing off ancient relics. You gotta love the Mournhold Museum of Artifacts for giving you a chance to sell crap, but I think it should have also been looking for other stuff. A museum that buys the other stuff, like Dwemer loot, extremely rare books, while have large displays for architectural elements of the ruin tilesets, with certain groups researching the history of certain civilizations. It kinda be like a Smithsonian for Morrowind Province. So what do you think?

Such a society already exists(if you can call Tamriel real). It's the Imperial Geographical Society. Whether or not it's going to be a faction with quests, I have no idea.

No. The Imperial Geographic Society was a commission to write the PGE. The Imperial Archealogical Society (funny enough) does such things, and was mentioned in the book about Kemel-Ze.

It will be in Hammerfell. Because the Mages Guild is non-joinable, one if its two replacements is the IAS, which is excavating both Volenfel and an as-yet unnamed Ayleid ruin near Elinhir.

I like the idea of putting architectural elements on display.

'architectural elements'? you mean like excavated relics and such? or a museum with interesting parts of ruins. it wuould be pretty impressive to have a huge museum with like half of a tower and some ludicrously oversized arches etc

i think that a museum which is like the one in Mournhold only a bit bigger with a bigger variety of items would be good, then prehaps a courtyard outside with Dwemer ruins making up the scenery around the courtyard would look good.

architectural elements like columns and such. I figured the purpose of such a museum would be to glean as much information about these ancient societies as they could. So patterns and inscriptions would definitely be displayed: OM columns, Daedric claws, Dwemer pipes and murals, that display column from Thirsk with the wolf painted on it, stuff like that. From there, more lore can be established. Mind you there is always the option of simply expanding the MH Museum.

hmmmmmm,

that is an intresting thought, hemitheon, there are no places in morrowind where you can sell dwrvn stuff and the intrest of mining is set to minimum by bethesda.

like how i did the PyCave mine :) , simple rocks and such that are forgoten, but could be usefull and put to lore because there is none for it.

but, the hard thing is IS that all the ore in tamriel is already used for something, like armor or weapons (adamantium, iron, ebony, etc), but if this did happen, there would be a point in making ore a factor.
