Your Music outside of TR

Post by Graff »

I thought I'd be nice and allow people to show off what they do musically in their spare time, bands and suchlike.

Two rules:

1) Use outside hosting

2) If you do criticise, be constructive about it.

I'll start us off =)

Good stuff, but I would'nt class any of those tracks hardcore. I aint heard any real/good hardcore stuff since the early 90's. It got worse and worse the more commercial and popular it became. Last rave I went to was by Ultra Sonic, and it was garbage. Not been to a rave since, dont think they do them up here anymore anyway...

These days I'm into more mellow stuff like The Doors, Bob M and Pink Floyd. I know every word, of every Doors song, lol, how sad is that.

Keep up the good work with Project Raven :) , look forward to hearing more.

Shame we cant do club/dance music for oblivion, it's a million times easier to make than classical, for me anyway.

Being gamers, possibly a good number of you play MMOs too, you all might like to check out MMORadio.com

Usually they have alright musik, butter than stuff I get on my local radio stations, plus they talk about gaming news.

Other than that, some of the better known bands im into.. Korn, Stabbing Westward, Fear Factory, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, Godsmack, Dredg, Taproot, Deftones, Breaking Benjamin, NIN, Disturbed, System Of A Down, Rob Zombie, POD, Rage Against the Machine, Seether.. Lacuna Coil, umm plenty more... I usually like anything in the Industrial Rock genre and around there.

The reason why it doesn't hardcore yet is because I've not recorded guitar or vocals yet, believe me, once I do, there'll be a definite difference =)

This was my GCSE Integrated assignment piece. It sounds awful but trust me, its fantastic for what it was trying to do :D

I had to write the music to accompany a film....basically woman is walking along at night, feels herself being watched, starts to walk faster, lights break, runs, screams.

Cliched....to the maaaaax

See if you can work out what happens where in the music.

Not too bad, Turelio. I listen to Seether, Disturbed, and BB out of that list. You should really check out Shinedown.

Best band I've listened to in a long time. Been a fan since they were unknown. Right up your alley, too. First album is better then the second. (Don't listen to the acoustic, and no they're not christian.) Other than that, Creed, Alter Bridge, Edgewater, Seether, Disturbed, Ozzy, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Candlebox, Alice In Chains, Bush, Audioslave, Guns N' Roses, Earshot, Submersed, The Exies, Nirvana, and A Perfect Circle are my bands, along with a few select others.

I dont listen to any of that stuff. I dont listen to bands at all, actualy. I listen to composers. Mostly from the romantic period, but once in a while I get in the mood for some contemporary stuff (you really have to be in a mood for that kind of stuff)

Anyway, this thread is supposed to be about what you compose and play, not what you listen to. As for me- I have submitted 99.9% of my compositions to TR, so I dont have much else to share :)

I play alto and soprano saxophones, going for my diploma mid next year.
Im also in a dub band (reggae and jazz combined really)and I play a bit of classical piano.
Whats TR's stance on music composition? is it still only accepting works composed exclusively by modders or will you take quasi-arrangements?

Only works composed exclusively by modders, I'm afraid. I don't really feel that derivatives of compositions or new arrangements give us enough originality in our work.

So... Erhem. Here is my first attempt at music composition. I started it last night, which is precisely when I got my program, which I had never seen before, so all in all, I think it's pretty darn good. It's only about 0:30 seconds of pain to your ears, so I expect everyone to listen attentively. I have no specific use for the piece itself, but I plan to keep the tune and remix it when I get better. So, please put on heavy, insulated earmuffs, and enjoy. (Oh, and Enigma says he may be able to fix the off-spacing in the Synthstrings, so then it should be sounding half-decent.) I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.

Hey, if you guys want some pretty decent midi-based music writing software, try Guitar Pro.. particularly Version 5### as it has a Realistic Sound Engine.. so instead of Midi drumkits, guitars and bass, you get stuff based on the sound of an actual instrument, and you can get a large variety of effects too.. Obviously only a small portion of it would be really usable for this kind of thing, but yeah.. I find it really well set out, too.. And there is a large amount of material out there to learn from, as well..

That's all good music. I listen to Def Leppard, Weird Al, Linkin Park, AC/DC, Lady Sovereign (dont make fun of me! lol), MCR, a little AFI, Steve Miller Band, Beastie Boys, some Styx, some Ozzy...a lot of music. I listen to almost anything as long as it's not played every 5 seconds, and if it's not a bunch of violins. =)

BOO to your last statement; major BOO. I cannot possibly describe the depth of my loathing for emo music.

However, as for bands you like, I mostly agree - especially Arch Enemy. Dead Eyes See no Future has got to be one of my favourite songs of all time. :)
You should check out converge; best Hardcore band EVER. they're like screamo, only actually talented and not annoying.

I'm sorry, but there's no way you can put hardcore and screamo in the same room as each other. Screamo might have some influences in hardcore, but it's far too much about it's own image to be real hardcore. Converge on the other hand rock my socks.

Does it really matter if it gets people posting in the Sound & music forum? We don't need a TR police force, if the moderator's object, then they'll say something.
