WSG #25 [A,F] Imperialism in Hammerfell
This is a fairly broad topic. How have the Imperials adjusted to Hammerfell, and how have the natives adjusted to them? A couple of areas to think about:
- How are the nine devines accepted and/or mixed with yokudan religion?
- What, if any changes do the Legions make to thier attire and architexture?
- What sort of goods from Cyrodill have become successfull in Hammerfell?

"The Rising Heat Makes My Mail Shimmer (and other tales)"
-Corinth Maximillion sighed as he fitted his steel armor chest plate over his shoulders. "Another day under this blazing sun wearing an entire mine." He thought grimly. "And these boots sink into the sandy soil." Corinth head the curses fly from the mouths of his fellow legionaries. "This imperial Armor is just too heavy for the desert."
-Ten strong men strained to liftthe next stone in place. At the current rate the fort would never be completed. Every imperial was exuasted by the time noon rose into the sky. But those rotten Redguard laborers were almost done with their mud cottatges.
-"Dear Marcus Dromindus
I have received your complaints and I am taking active measures to correct our deficiancies. A talented archetique is traveling from Rimmen to oversee the planning for several aquaducts and retention wells. Please be patient and ration your supplies.
I am sending you more shipments of water, I hope your men do not suffer too greatly. Had the general predicted your shortage I imagine no lives would have been lost. If you become desperate, I'm sure the locals have water available if yout truely need it. These desert rats surely can find more.
For the Empire
Bronius Cassius"
- Jameson drew a squar on the ceiling above him with the with the white chualk in his hand. "This is to be an opening for this wretched heat the escape through." He wiped the sweat from his brow and drew a second square farther down the hall. "Better to be prepared, this fort is a giant oven."
-"Sand stone, Your using Sand stone!?" Major Cornialius cried. Marcus simply nodded.
"This heat makes using the stone shipped from the capital too much of a burden to work with." The older major sighed. "Besides. It blends in with the rest of this hell." Marcus motioned to the sea of sand surounding them. "The locals swear by it. and I must agree. We sent the granite back two weeks ago."

Thanks for your blurbs Menotex. However, hammerfell isnt exactly considered a fronteer anymore- the Imperials moved in a long time ago. But those could be exerpt from old letters, I suppose.
For ispiration: Turelio's concept for the Hammerfell legion:

Make the shield taller, and curved at the top and bottom a la early pattern roman scutum.

Actually, Thats what I had in mind. Just burlbs I had when thinking about when the imperials started fortifing. Any thing that would have been foriegn then is commonplace and accepted now. Such as lighter building materials and open windos and "Sun ports" or holes in the roof. I doubt their is much rainfall in most arears the Empire would consider contructing a fort. Water would be scarce and the Redguards would be very stingy to just hand it over to their "friends". Hammerfall pay be a full pledged province, But not every tribe is Forebear.
The Imperial Cult would also do away with any Yuku religious whats-it madoodle. Only avid historeans and libraians would care to document anything. Fortifications could have been "accidentl;y" built old ritual shrines and temples. (Quest anyone?)
Also as the Empire come, they will bring their technology aswell. I see some towns using thenearhby rivers for power such as water mills and water powered wine presses. (or the Hammerfallen equivalent.)Water would be precious to the Empire so much that steps would be taken to conserve it. I know some areeas water would be more plentiful, Be arid forts might have and underground reserve or aquaduct to carry water from a nearhby mountain spring.

I must cleairfy that we are in this land to stay. Remember to respect our neaghbers. Certain 'steps' should be taken to ensure a peaceful transition from their ocult worship to the holy divine. Please keep in mind these fools are our allies and subjects.
The architect I promised is on his way. With him is ten months rations and a new weopenry the alchmist claim will last longer in the desert sand. They call it Sulium. It is light and easy to swing but not very durable. It is also easy to mend and keeps a good edge. I hope you find it suiting.
Continue the construction there and give the men my regards. I'll be visiting myself in the comeing months.

Marcus crumpled the letter and threw it across the room. Such racist idealolgy would get him and his men killed. The civil war had yet to settle and tension was at an all time high. Converting the heathens would have to wait until they were willing. Otherwise the warior tribes would storm what little was completed of the fort and gut them all from toe nail to jaw bone.

What about some sort of column in one of the cities commemerating Tiber Septim, a la Trajan's Column?

That's a great idea! One of the Forebear capitals should have a monument like this (or something totaly different) to show thier love of the Empire.

Be sure to put the polycount in scientific notation for all that detail.
Tiber's Column = 6.25e34 polys

Actually, I myself wonder a bit about the nine divines. In Redguard the cult of Arkay pretty much fights against the empire. Of course, they might be an exception, I do think I heard that they are generally unbiased, but with the cult of Arkay in mind I'm not sure if the Nine Divine worshippers would cause to much trouble with the Hammerfellians. Anyway, both are Aedra, and generally lines were just drawn to connect the Yoku gods to the Nine Divines, I don't think there was ever too much religious animosity.
Andway, my first idea doesn't need much art. I was thinking that it would be interesting if some isolated farmers and Yoku worshippers had some goods made from Cyrodiil lying around, maybe some more territorial dune-dwellers use some silverware they "picked up" from a caravan or something. I got the idea from seeing pictures of a tribe in Africa which relied on hunting and foraging and was pretty much a picture of how earlier humans might have lived, but in pictures of them you could see the odd plastic bowl, or empty water bottle.

The problem is, the Redguards gave Tiber Septim the only reverse in his creation of the Empire, and the Redguards have the best fighting style in Temriel, not the people you'd want to mess with. If there is any assimilation I think it would not be forceful, and though the Redguard rebellion happened long ago I don't think the Empire started taking over again. Plus, with a lot of the Legion being recalled to Cyrodiil, Imperial control of Hammerfell is probably weaker than it had been for a long time. Anyway, I just remembered what the WTG was made for, so I'll stop with the writing now.

If I remember most of the legion is in other provinces, which is why Ocato can't give you any legion troops for the "Allies for Burma" main quest. So, in theory, control would be stronger since the troops that are usally idel are now running around Hammerfell, Blackmarsh, Skyrim, etc etcGnomey wrote:The problem is, the Redguards gave Tiber Septim the only reverse in his creation of the Empire, and the Redguards have the best fighting style in Temriel, not the people you'd want to mess with. "If your not living life on the edge your taking up too much space."
Hmm, seems lore was changed a bit, then, because in Morrowind people said that the legions would have to be recalled. But eitherway the legions aren't idle, Dagon is invading all of Tamriel, Ald-ruhn even got overrun by Daedra, didn't it? At the time of Oblivion Imperial power sounds as though it were at a general low.
This was the biggest failure in TR history
