Wow they are truly beautiful. All I can say is great work, and I will enjoy seeing you in the concept art forum, we have a WSG (http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?t=17762) on at the moment that you really need to be involved in. The colouring is unbelievable, you'll have to give me some tips on how to do that, it's just fantastic.

Hey, an welcome to TR, Kikai! <3

I don't know if it's unisex. I guess as a now 80% absolute minimum male, there is always a bit of assumption made on sex, sorry.

And the point is the art is awesome. PLEASE please check out the WSG.

Hello Kikaimegami! I am overjoyed that one of the two best artists (wouldn't want to insult Slof ;) ) from PES wants to join TR. If the reviewers see your work, you'll be promoted in no time flat. How are you with TES Lore?

Hooray! I feel welcomed already :) *pets kitten* I've checked out the WSG thread and might do some sketchies later if the fancy hits me. I usually draw when inspired, but TES seems to inspire me quite a lot :)

I can also write and I can provide shorter excerpts of my better work than those I posted links to since I know some of my stories are huge and my best work is in the later ones that I cannot link.

I updated the picture of Kauthira with some fixes and additions if anyone is interested.

Okay, I'll post an excerpt from Soul's Song, my most recent story, which I have yet to complete. The story itself is currently over 63k words and is my winning NaNoWriMo entry for 2006.

This is the introduction to the story and is around 1600 words.

-

Everything was grey.

It stretched out in all directions like an infinite void of pure balance. There was no black nor white nor color. There was no good nor bad. There was only the grey. It was oppressive and passive, overwhelming and free. It pressed in and stretched out. There was falling and flying.

It began to coalesce into shadows and lights, of is and is not. Here, there was a forming of soft vibrance, there was a spot of black void. Gathered in the separations, huddled inside the pockets of chaos and reason were millions. The division continued and more millions precipitated from the grey maybe, gathering like grains of sand, like the sediments of brewed tea in the bottom of the cup. They clung together and became strong, shaping themselves to augment each other.

Sometimes the shift changed violently and pockets were snuffed out as if they never existed at all, other times the pockets grew and became something more than the sum of the millions hiding in them. Individuals came forth and did great things. Individuals came forth and did things not so great. Despite this, they were still all equals, they still all came from the same place, the vibration of yes and no, of stasis and change.

Things slowly changed and new pieces were made. In the very heart, the very center of the sea of possibility a single, hard thing formed. From it, like spokes in a wheel, the light and dark aligned themselves, stretching out into infinity from the solid rock of bones. Some had given their infinity for that rock, to become its foundation. The ones of light created it lovingly and under false rationalizations. Some had escaped this fate, streaking like threads across the black and into a sea of white.

I watched this all with the unblinking eyes of someone who wasn't quite. It all looked the same to each of us, those that hadn't yet been plucked from our hiding places among the pockets of not yet. My pocket was dark, some were light. Sometimes we would even have those that returned because of some strange circumstance. They would forget who they were and become not yet again. We could not speak; we could not feel. The only thing was observation and so we observed. We watched with the eyes that knew not what they looked at; with the eyes of pre-children. There was no learning or knowledge, there was only the dance of light and dark that dazzled our eyes and whispered into our minds with vibrations that could have been words, but were unknown to us.

Those around me could feel me just as I could feel them, but there was no interaction beyond that simple knowledge of existence. We acknowledged each other and nothing more. To have attempted lives like this would have been folly.

Sometimes ripples of almost-emotion would stir us up and we would move closer together for the protection and strength of numbers, despite not knowing or being capable of knowing what we might do. It was not fear nor companionship that drew us close, only the fact that we were the same type of inexistence

Time had no meaning, because time did not exist out here. We looked in on the entirety of that which existed and only longed to become part of it. The longing was always the same, because there was no way to know how long one had been longing. There was no way to tell if you'd been there before, or if you'd simple been not yet forever and into infinity. All there was, were slight pangs of what could have been jealousy when you felt your neighbor tugged away and become.

I remained and watched, wishing that I could be a part of it all, no longer unknowing and functionally blind. My entirety longed to become. The fantasy of something I didn't even know pulsed through me like a beacon within myself.

Something changed.

A spark of exitance lanced through me like a shock and for a brief moment I knew. I clung to it, not knowing what else to do. It seared into my unknowing eyes and burned my very being to the core. It was amazing and horrible all at the same time. This had been what I longed for. Despite the seeming infinite pain, my entire essence cried out in joy as I felt myself tugged and funneled, jerked towards all of existence at a speed so fast that everything became a blur, almost appearing grey once again.

It felt like being all at once, flying and falling both at the same time, and I thrilled with the jolt of it, knowing what thrill was for the first time in my existence. Movement accelerated and slowed and for me, time began. Memories and knowledge poured into me and I learned in the span of a second what must have taken eons to transpire. A whole race's shared knowledge.

It was for this reason I knew that when something else brushed against me, that it was not normal. The descent from not yet into existing was forged by a single master, was tainted by a single being. Why did two touch me?

The first was the one that had caused my journey in the first place and I could feel Him, I could smell Him, His name sat at the tip of my still non-existent tongue and I knew His name and what He was and where He was. My thoughts burned with His prepense as He shaped me and formed me to His will, my being and soon-to-be body forming to His wishes. Why did someone else touch me?

I flew to Him, still on my path between maybe and being and something else pushed me, altering my course of being. It felt hot and vibrating and amazing, almost drowning out Him for a moment. It seared against me, scratching, clawing at my side and I winced. As soon as the burn began it ended, and I was allowed on my course once again, changed from what He wanted, but still accepted as I was.

Immediately, I knew the change. I could feel it where those talons of fire had reached for me. Something was different and I knew, somehow, I'd been given something special. A whisper brushed across my mind and its voice was magic.

The sudden jolt at the end was the most difficult part of my free fall. My being was suddenly faced with existing and the change tore through me, flaying me and reshaping me so that I could become. I knew nothing and so gave it the answer He gave me, the image of what I should be burned into my eyes and I spoke those words, telling everything and nothing of what I was and what I will be and what I can be.

That was the worst part.

My eyes became real and the light burned them until I had to close them. A scream left my lips as I learned what it felt like to feel. Mind never hurt as much as body did and this pain of feeling was unlike anything I had yet experienced. It felt like the millions were all stabbing me with needles so small that millions could fit into one point. The feeling tore across my entire new self, inside and out, and I whimpered with the torture.

Something warm touched me and I flinched, more out of suddenly learned instinct than any pain, until I realized where it had touched me no longer felt so raw and abused. I relaxed, letting myself fall against the warmth and it enveloped me, soothing the horrible pain away. It touched me behind my eyes and I realized it was touching the back of my head, the words and their meanings, definitions of this new form slowly coming to me through the haze of new thoughts and memories.

I opened my eyes after a time, realizing I enjoyed the careful fingers brushing against me and easing away the cold and fear and pain. Bright red eyes were the first thing I saw and I stared into them. They were His eyes and I knew He could see right into my core. I felt Him touch me inside the very center of my being, soothing my thoughts and calming my fear.

We stood there for what, to me, felt like an eternity. My heart thundered in my ears and I could feel its pulse through my entire body. His hands brushed my hair back, pushing it out of my face as I remained fixated on Him, unable to tear my gaze from His. As my breathing and heart calmed themselves, I realized I was leaning against Him and actually standing, being held up by Him. My legs shook as I discovered them for the first time.

Staying there in His arms seemed so tempting, but a tiny voice inside me told me I would need to move on my own eventually. Unsure of myself, I pushed away carefully and He let me go, watching me carefully as I balanced myself on my own feet.

He looked at me, the corners of His mouth curving upwards and I returned the look, unsure of what else to do. A smile, an expression indicating happiness or pleasure. He was happy with me, I realized, and I felt a swelling of pride course through me. Something else caught my eye and I focused my gaze behind Him a moment as another joined us. A spark of recognition coursed through me at the site of the other and my heart did a flip within me, but I returned my attention to Him.

His expression was bright and his eyes on me gentle, he finally spoke in a voice that was forever etched in my head and in my thoughts. "Welcome, Kir'thi."

A Brief Lesson on Flame Atronach Anatomy

Flame Atronachs can be charactarized by the two major differences between them and other Atronachs. The first difference isn't terribly important, but interesting none the less. The second thing, however, is very fascinating.

The first difference is obviously the bizarre and mysterious mask they always seem to wear. It isn't well-known if it is actually a mask, or their actual face, but no other type of Atronach has one. Both the Storm and Frost Atronachs have no armor covering their faces. Their fiery brothers, however, have a large, black angular mask obscuring their entire faces save for the eyes. Flame Atronachs are very private about their physical oddities, so only a select few Daedra know what is beneath the pointy covering.

The second difference is much more interesting and veiled in secrecy. The long, slim horn protruding from every Flame Atronach's forehead is a very unique form among Daedra. The unique appendage serves much more than a decorative function. It acts as an antennae of sorts, an extension of the Flame Atronach's senses. With it, the Flame Atronach has a higher sensitivity to heat and can detect faint vibrations in the air. This allows them to spot hidden threats, no matter what concealment magic is used. Unfortunately, it's also a secret weakness and that's why its purposes are not well-known.

A Flame Atronach's horn is one of the most delicate and easily harmed parts of their body because of its unprotected state. Since the nature of its use to observe the Atronach's surroundings is such, they can mentally turn down, so to speak, the receptiveness of their horns. This helps save them from agony if the appendage is somehow damaged or completely severed.

Posting another excerpt from my recent story, Ninety-Nine. A short summoning scene using a soul from a gem instead of calling one from Oblivion. Enjoy :)

~

...

The sparkling soulgem glittered with a warm, orange hued light that matched its yellow surface, a soft glow emanating from its golden depths indicating it held a spirit. Plucking the topaz-colored gem from it's satiny home, Kauthira let the opened box tumble to the floor beside its ribbon as she began to pace across the room, contemplating the sparkling soulgem.

Stopping in the center of her bedchamber, the Ayleidic Conjurer closed her eyes, clutching the filled gem in one hand firmly and concentrating on the soul within. In her mind's eye, the image of a sleek, powerful Flame Atronach appeared, his arms and legs tucked close to him in a fetal position as he drifted within the confines of his translucent prison, his mind and thoughts utterly still and frozen in time. The power and energy coursing from him and through the gem told her he was more than he seemed, his large spirit denoting he wasn't a simple Flame Atronach, but one of the much more powerful variety--a Flame Monarch. Her eyes drifted open once more and a smirk snuck its way onto her face. Perhaps the gift wasn't so useless after all, she considered as she had an idea of what to use the gem for. She would give herself a better birthday present.

The gem felt warm against her palms as she absently juggled it between her hands, mind searching for the correct words to the spell she needed. The gem finally rested in her right hand and her fingers closed around it again as she lifted her left hand, palm facing out, until it was extended in front of her at chest height. Glutteral words in Daedric spilled from her lips, her voice low and even as she chanted the spell and the soulgem starting to glow brighter. A loud crack resonated through the entire room as the soulgem split in half, then again, cracks upon cracks marring the smooth surface until it sifted between her fingers--a fine, powdery dust.

Her now empty hand glowed with power, threads of reds and yellows sparking about her fingers as she stretched them out, the last fragments of the gem seeming to fade into nothingness. The magic splayed out, coursing up her arm and through her body before it raced down her other arm. Sparks of energy flew free of her outstretched hand, the jagged bolts of power wildly swinging this way and that, almost looking like a bright-red lightning spell.

A form began to take shape in front of her as the Daedric soul found itself free and called for its body, a hellish portal-like rift forming in front of the Ayleid mage. More magical bolts of energy lit the air from her fingers as a red smoke filled the void the rift had left behind as it disappeared with a loud snap and the clouds of illumination flowed out, taking the shape of arms and legs, a body and a head.

The Flame Atronach was facing away from her as his body settled, his form becoming solid and his thoughts catching up to him, now free of the solitude and horror of the entrapment spell and cell of the soulgem. He jerked slightly, lifting his head from gazing at the floor as he felt a cool hand against his back, the last strands of the summoning spell coursing through those fingertips and into his body. A slight buzz pressed into the back of his mind as the binding force holding him to his summoner took hold.

it's beautiful Kikai...
just like all your other works.

It's excellent, I love the difference in the way you've coloured it this time.
Ask Bethesda, that's how they look in-game. I didn't really change much about her other than give her earrings. She's almost identical to an in-game Flame Atronach.

Thank you :) I wanted to try another way of painting in the texture and shading and while it killed my arm to do so, I think it turned out rather well!

Hm. I was going to draw a Yoku mask thing and ended up with some kind of Flame Atronach drawing. Figures :P

There's something that bothers me here, and it's not Kikaekigami's art (nor Thrignar's armpits - see relevant thread!).

It's that people keep posting their work in the showcase even after they've been promoted. Especially skillful modders such as Kika should make their own thread in the appropriate forum (concept art in this case) and post their work there. The showcase was designed to serve as a means for people to obtain Modder status, at least primarily. Just a suggestion.

The showcase is meant to be learned from. People can post their work here to get opinions and criticism. Also, non-TR related work can be posted in it, to show that one's skills have improved. It's encouraged that people continue to post in it, even after their promotion. (It has been strongly stated many a time that the showcase is not merely a means of obtaining moddership.)

As for the Concept Art forum, it's for TR related artwork, or so I assumed.

You're both right, actually. :P

The Showcase is meant for learning and skill-building, not for choosing who gets the axe and who gets to come on board. If a member shows enough skill in here and wishes to become a Modder then he or she gets promoted.

After promotion, though, anything related to the project should be posted in the correct forum. Concept Art in this case.

So Kikai needs to go flaunt her TR-related goodies in CA. :P

(If you want the stuff in here to be sent to CA, contact a moderator and they'll move it.)

To summarize:

Literature intended in the mod should go in the Literature forum and concept art of Hammerfell should go in the Concept Art forum. Anything not directly related to TR (like all your lovely Flame Atronarch stuff) belongs here.

Aye, when I had asked before, I was told to put non-TR stuff in here if I wanted for people to see it. The recent stuff I've posted here hasn't been related to TR--it's been my own projects. When I make some drawings specifically for TR other than those I did for certain threads, I'll make a thread in the CA forum :)

This is actually very interesting stuff. Is you coudl pull off doing things like this for patterns and such, then that kidan stuff would be excellent for textures. I like it, as a design. I think adding more would lessen it's movement, and detract from it. I ike it Kikai :D.

Aye, I was going to add some more detail, but I like it kind of stylistic like that :)

As those about the IRC channel probably already know, I made a "Daedric" Daikatana (though it doesn't really look like the Daedric stuff in Oblivion) and will plop a picture in here so everyone else can see :D My first weapon! Hooray!
