Again I've started modeling, except I've seem to forgotten even the most infantile and basic skills in Blender. I only have on question. Does anyone (Warder this shouts out to you basically) know how to apply multiple textures in blender? I've spent at least 3 hours searching the internet but I am yet to find a forum or website the explains how to apply multiple.

Multiple textures? This can mean many many different things, such as applying a normal map or blending two images together, ect ect. What exactly do you want to do? (check the nodes if you get the time, they rock)

if by multiple texures you mean having multiple objects (as 1 file, ie, .nif format) and applying sperate textures to ech of them then everything you need should be below.

Let's take a simple box for example. I am trying to texture each side of the boc with a different crate texture. I've managed to do this before with matting, but I forgot how to mat properly.

Progress:
I have three mats (3- Mat 3) no matter which one I go to, 1 2 or 3 it won't let me changer the individual color to show what section will get what texture. (blue gets crate top, etc.). Instead it will change all mat colors to the newly chosen color. On top of that it choose all texture open in the model for each Mat, instead of checking off only one two or three.

The reason why the instructions don't work for the page you gave (I tried it long before asking) is because of the above being said, those "glitches" are needed in the tutorial.

That WONT work in the morrwind or Oblivion engine I belive, just fyi.

In order to do that, go to edit mode then click on the select faces button.

Then create multiple materials by pressing the "new" button in edit mode. The arrows are to switch between the multiple materials.

Then go to your cube and select the faces you want for material 1.

Then Click on Assign. Those faces are now assigned to material 1.

Know go to the material panel, and use the arrow to go to material two. Add a new material.

Select the other faces, and assign that material to the other faces.

As I said before, I am pretty sure the you cannot do this in morrowind's or Oblivion's Engine. If you would want to do that, you would have to UV map.

Thanks, the mats work now. Now every time I render the image is still the most recently selected texture. I've managed to be able to asign textures to each mat correcly too, it just doesn't apply itself to the model on it's assigned mat, but streches itself through the model, and the main mesh remains on top of the box. If you need screen shots I guess I could get some for you.

Yes, screens would help immensely. If you could post the .blend File in a zip that would be excellent.

Here's the file. I don't have the textures uploaded with it but apply anything. Again, what happens to me is I can't apply individual color per mat (I used to be able to, I remember this being a key thing to tell them apart) and it applys the image to the same top box ONLY. I bet you'll figure this out quickly. (I am using the latest Blender too)

HHMM....

I think you are using a completely different method. I really don't know much about vertex painting, except that it is different then materials. You are trying to use (I think) Two completely different methods together (like saying why doesn't OSA affect my subdivision, they are completely different methods for different things)

Really, I try to ignore vertex painting. Never really been a fan of it. I hope this helps, as I know nothing about vertext painting.

EDIT: try hitting the "Vcol Paint" button under the material panel

Now I'm lsot, Sorry. Were abble to apply textures to teh sides? If you can teach me any way so I can say this surface will use this texture I will be grateful. I'm just saying the testuring the way I used to. I f you want I have an old shield that I did the technique with, I still can't seem to figure it out after I looked through it though...

Edit: I did it, kind of... I have been able to sanction it to one side now, but it still has a stretched texture. I'm guessing I need to UV map it to get it "unstretchy" for lack of a btter word.

Yup, you need to UV map each object. It'll distort oddly if you don't. I'm guessing you don't need help getting the texture on each object now, or should I try to explain it?

Please explain, the tutorial sux. It doesn't actually tell you what o do, It says "Select all the faces and click UV > LSCM Unwrap. You'll notice in the UV window that the Vertices are all messed up," immediatly not even explaining or visualizing where anything is in step one is a clear sign the rest will be even worse.
