Quest: Race through Aranyon Pass
Quest Type: Escort, sort of?
Location: starts in (29,12) and ends in (29,16)
Outline: This is a quest that Noirgrim designed and got mostly working; Starcrunch also had a look at it at one point. I rather like the idea and would like to see it worked in, despite it being a bit close to the Mudlap Mosslog quest I just finished up.
"The player is confronted by Ri'gi'fasht (cell 29,12), a Kahjit that claims to be the fastest runner around. He bets the PC a certain amount of gold that he can beat them through the pass. The Kahjit is fast, so the only way to beat him will be to mark and recall to the finish line. It's a simple, fun quest with nothing more after the finish. If the player wins the Kahjit will follow the player around in admiration."

Quest: Which Witch?
Quest Type: Naked Nord
Location: On the path at (20,20)
Outline: When the player enters this cell, s/he sees a breton woman named Rianele Sele running from a nord named Alfhed who is, you guessed it, naked. When Rianele gets close to the player she shouts for help (forcegreeting) "Help me! He's insane!" At this point the nord will shot back "Don't listen to her %PCRace, she's a witch! She stole my clothes and my axe, Thunderstrike!" Rianele will then say "I've never seen this man in my life! Besides, if I knew any magic I'd have cast a calm spell on him a long time ago!" as a hint to the player that a calm humanoid spell can be used to stop the fight.
From here the player can a. Do nothing, let the nord kill the woman and on CellChanged they disappear. Or the player can b. defend the woman (kill Alfhed) which will end the quest, for a small reward. Or the player can c. side with the nord, and kill Rianele. Alfhed will then search the body and confirm that this must not have been the right woman, for he finds no sign of Thunderstrike.
Talking to Alfhed will reveal that he hired the breton woman in Bal Oyra to escort him to Firewatch, but she cast a spell on him that lulled him to sleep, then stole his clothing and his axe. The player can then travel to Bal Oyra to find Frie Antoni, a breton alchemist who looks exactly like Rianele. She will explain that she did drug him with a sleeping potion because he was telling obscene jokes, and she took his belongings to teach him a lesson. She will then return Thunderstrike to you, and you can deliver it to Alfhed who is still waiting at the path. As a reward he will train you a point or two in Axe.
Finally, the player can d. Cast a calm humanoid spell on Alfhed. This will play out similar to c. except that Rianele will live. You will get rewarded by both Rianele and Alfhed.

Imagine my insult to find that "Raw Glass has no effect on you." I became very huffy at the implication that my intelligence could not be lowered further. Then again, I did just eat a piece of glass.

As it turns out, the scripting is not nearly as easy as I thought and Noirgrim did most of it. I've got it in a working state now I believe (though I should doublecheck a few things, notably what happens on a reload as it is my understanding that savegames don't store artificially adjusted journal indices. Also the khajiit seems to stop short of the finish line and I want to see if I can fix that.) Anyway, my point is, it evidently was not easy to get the khajiit to run a race through four cells and I'd prefer not to move it. I'm perfectly fine with scrapping it if that makes more sense, but moving it is probably not very viable.

Gorza,
The khajit stopping is a scripting bug. It manifests itself randomly and to different extents on different computers. On my home computer I'd get it about 70% of the time between points 8-12 and the rest toward the end about 3 or 4 points from the end. On my other machine which is much faster it would sometimes run the whole race but often stalled toward the end. The nature of the problem is bizzare and when he "stops" it it causes the control variable increment all the way to the end without travling any of the distance.
I spent a long time trying to fix this bug when Noir first submitted. I cleaned up the script but that didn't help, nor did modifying the waypoints. There is a way to start the khajit again however. I found that using the console I could reset the control variable back to the one for the point he stopped on would cause the script to restart. Thus a solution to this problem relies on checking for the rapid increase in control variable and resetting it to teh proper one; the trick is knowing which is the proper one (there are ways but it's pretty tough). One would be to build a loop that checks his location and also monitors the control variable only records the control variable when his location is changing. Then if he "pauses" you set the control variable back to the right one (maybe one before the pause point).
Another way is to set a seires of local scripts on activators placed at problem nodes, these trigger if he pauses at that node allowing the script on the Khajit to be restarted at the right location for each node (using a target variable assignment, ie. Set REFERENCE.VARIABLE to XX where the REFERENCE is the Khajit's ID and VARIABLE is the control variable Noir uses (I think it's state) and XX is the value needed to restart the script at the correct location).
Also you may try to tweak the locations of some of the waypoints, I'm pretty sure that can be used to solve this problem too (keeping him from ever causing his script to run away like crazy). I also tried some of the suggestions by GhanBuriGhan in the scripting guide for dealing with traveling NPC's (his specialty so to speak) to no avail, the nature of the problems he solves don't seem to really apply here (most involve NPC's traveling very long distances).
The second way is probably supperior if you can't tweak the locations to get it to work.

Well, I've seen him stop in the middle of the race and tell you "This is not my day. Come back another time." That seems like a reasonable way to handle the inevitable occasional failure. But then he consistently stops just before the end of the pass, and that's the one that concerns me.

Still may not quite be right, but certainly close. I'll take another look when I'm making changes in the reviewing phase, but for now I'm going to try and grab some TO quests.

I would like to request removal of "Which Witch?" for implementation on a later map. I want to remove it to make room for Kill the Messenger, because Which Witch? is more flexible in terms of location. I don't think it fits well anywhere else on map 1, but it can easily be moved, so I would like to hold onto it for another map.

No no, don't worry about moving your quest. Really it doesn't even need to be an imperial city; just a city where a breton might have a home/shop (which on map 1 would be imperial.) To any extent, I'm planning a new naked nord quest outside of Port Telvannis where the "witch" is a slave the nord got permission to purchase. Which Witch? can be moved to map 2.

Error reports for these quests:
Which Witch
Liking the idea, and comedy factor, but not sure it's starting right.
When I get to the witch 'n' nord pairing, I get forcegreeted by both, which I assume is in the plan. Then, I spoke to witch-girl, who thanked me for calming the nord, even though I'd done nothing. Nord then had some generic greeting for me, as opposed to something quest-related. I could, however, ask him about his axe, and get that part of the quest started.
Race Through Aranyon Pass.
Nicely done, almost no bugs.
Only problems: If the player moves at the speed of the Boots of Blinding Speed, then you get the journal for winning, but Rigi does not acknowledge this, resets and restarts quest. Not that this is a necessarily bad thing. Prevents one of the obvious bugs/cheats here.
When you refuse to give Rigi his cash, he gets into "ninja-pose" and screams at you, but doesn't actually attack, letting the player go free.
Also, just so you know, I tried to test a cheat way by circling round the pass, hoping to get to Sarvanni whilst being out of range of his AI. This did not work, so that's another cheat pre-squashed. Lovely.
If the player loses, Rigi doesn't reset. Not reseting: After losing, I speak to Rigi, and he asks me to pay him money. If I say yes, all appears to go fine. If I say no, he gets "into ninja stance" then doesn't actually attack. If I say yes, then speak to him again, he says "save your breath for the race", with a goodbye.
He then doesn't reset to the start, regardless of what I do (wait/change cells/change cells and wait)
Race Through Aranyon Pass
1.When the race is over, and you lost, and if you either refuse to pay Ri'gi or do not have the money to pay him, he is supposed to attack you, right?.
Well he refuse to attack, he goes into combat mode for about a second after dialog is ended, going into hand to hand mode and everything, but after that he just stands there.
He wouldn't even attack me if i attacked him, and i got a bounty for doing so.
2.Ri'gi stops to soon, instead of stopping were you get the you won/lost journal entry, he stops close to the end of the pass, though it still counts as if he won.
3.There are three points through the pass where Ri'gi seems a bit confused, he runs a quick circle in these points and then continues on. It does not have a very large effect but it looks a bit silly.
4.Though i have noticed that you have removed most of the undead beasts there since my last visit, there is still a ghost in there. I really don't think there should be any enemies there during the race, as it affects you and not Ri'gi.
