New TR Webmaster/Coder Recruitment Post

NOTICE - You will be working on a team. That means you will NOT be the only one doing things for the website. The team will include garfield, as our Service Provider; Amrod, as the current Webmaster; Myself for now, as the Administrator who deals with the site and uploading files and things like that; Possibly one other person.

So folks.

TR has a pretty hefty need for a webmaster, or at the least someone who has the knowledge, time, and inclination to code for us. Amrod is great, but has been very much absent lately, and we really cannot function to even half of our potential capacity without someone who can code for us.

This thread is for people who are interested or know someone who is interested and has the capabilities to code for us, or even webmastering, if possible.

Now for the requirements.

PHP
- This site (and its forums) and all of its lovely, nifty features and featurettes live and breathe off of PHP. A moderate to advanced skill level & knowledge of PHP and how to write it is a definite must.

However, if you don't know php but are an experienced programmer, PHP is an easy language to learn. Just look up on web security issues and try to avoid them. The syntax itself is easy enough and the help files for php are probably the best for any language, ever. There's examples of everything on the help files themselves and you can find more on www.php.net.

Other things people need to be familiar with are SQL files n' stuff like that. JavaScript and (X)HTML are also a requirement. You will most likely have already learned these if you know PHP well though.

Why?
We need to update/revamp our OoT Browser, and add lots of things to it. We'd also like to have a nice and nifty new website. There're plenty of more widgets and gadgets we'd also love to have as well that aren't mentioned in this post.

The one thing these all have in common, however, is that they all require someone to code them. Otherwise they simply won't exist, no matter how hard we wish we had them.

Other Important Information -

Zephyr's code is very well commented, so don't worry about not being able to understand what is written if you get the job as webmaster/coder.

It's kind of a requirement that you have your own testserver.

You have to know how to use an FTP Client and all that jazz, otherwise all the time-consuming stuff you do will not show up online.

Flash 8 (with Actionscript 2.0)
XHTML 1.0 Strict

XML 1.0
MySQL 5.0.33

Other useful knowledge:

UML (modeling language)
SVN (version management)

If no-one else is able to do it, I don't mind doing it until you find someone else.

I'm obviously qualified (obvious to those who know me, or were around when these forums were first created). I just got rather busy (at the time I was working for DC Studios and they wanted a demo for E3). I'm still pretty busy, but I have much more spare time than before now I work freelance.

I'd volunteer, but it's been a while since I last coded anything (I do still sometimes tinker with customizing a free wiki engine, I know PHP, JavaScript, MySQL, XHTML, CSS, and of course FTP), and I don't have a lot of free time; so there will probably be better choices.

Don't know Flash, though.

I'm decent in .NET, so I could pick up PHP, and I do know Flash. I can't really say I'd be much use though, I'm just saying that I have an aptitude for this kind of thing.

I am very good with PHP, HTML, XHTML, JS, Perl, CSS,ASP, and .NET (I AM BEST IN HTML AND FLASH..) but i ca nuse the other types of coding..

It's working for me. I'm not a big fan of flash intro's though, even less of a fan of wordpress which is what they used for the site.

Other useful, but not required knowledge is UML (modelling language that will be used to design website) and SVN (version management).

Haplo I edited your post to include this. Also the server isn't using php5 but php4.

Well, besides the 3 or so folks I'm waiting for a reply from, we're left with garf, and I'd rather not have to ask him to do even more for the project than he already is when others may have the capabilities.

Morgoth has agreed to (attempt to) handle the graphics & such of the new website, according to layout #3. He's going to make a post in the admin forum (if he already hasn't).

Sure.
I own a website called Asyrd. I cant link to it (links are removed) but if you search Asyrd something should come up. Asyrd is a new site, and quite unfinished.
I know C, C++, Visual Basic (mastered), C#, PHP MySQL, HTML, CSS, XML (and RSS), Javascript, A little x86 Assembly, ActionScript (in flash not good at graphics though!), a little FORTRAN 95/90. I haven't got any examples at the mo, but will upload them to my site

I'm also working on an Operating System, anyone is welcome to join (if there clever enough), just add my MSN and talk to me. I do have a PHP example, i cant link to it properly so i'll have to do this <asyrd's website>/v3/ it's unfinished mind.

You seem well qualified and you seem like you know what you're doing, I look forward to those code samples being uploaded.

Do you have any knowledge/experience with the Elder Scrolls series? (ie a fan or a modder or a gamer at all)

Also, how'd you find this site, and what's your MSN?

, my MSN is red_dragon2006@hotmail.co.uk, i heard about this site on wikipedia (looking up info on Tamriel and its lore), i was well impressed. I did join Dec last year but didnt go on it for ages so forgot password (old uname red_dragon2006). I love the elder scrolls and play Morrowind (computer too slow for oblivion, but im in the middle of upgrading). I also make my own mods for morrowind.

EDIT: Here is my first sample. It's the Visual Basic 6 source code to a webserver I am working on. I take no responsibility if this program somehow damages your PC it shouldn't, ive also virus checked it, you should too just in case if there is a virus on it PLEASE LET ME KNOW!.

I helped Cross with his site a bit.

I don't have my own website, just kind of a helper to anyone who needs it (by that I mean websites, I will not do your laundry)

If I could find a good host I would make my own, but as I am still young and have no job, I have no means to pay. Free hosts usually don't have *&^% available. So...yeah.
