Rihad Lower Class
Well I was talking to Lady N and Lutemoth the other day about Rihad LC housing. Lady N did send me the an old concept of LC houses in Goldmoor but I did'nt like it. So we discussed about how it could be done. My idea was that it should be very simple houses that are easy to build but effective, but still work well with the existing Rihad architecture. This is about what I came up with from that discussion.
It is a very simple version of the MC houses, you could say alpha version 0.04.
A mudbrick house with more simplified arches and rounded courners. I can imagine a low class worker live in with his family and his old sick mother. I am totaly against having domes on the LC set, since they are very difficult to build and gives a more wealthy feel to the building.
The plaster should have cracks and some should have fallen off , (see pic) to show the mudbricks that the house is built of.

I am currently working on a two storey version of a LC house and will post it later today or tomorrow.
Comments and input are needed.

Well that is since it is just a first draft of a concept I didnt really care about the size of the building, but yes the one on the pic is large. Perhaps a whole family and their relatives have to live there
No really it is to large for a LC household, but you get the idea.

Nope, you are with most certain not my boss. But I will make another sketch of a 3 storey building but in the same style.
BTW wouldnt it look kinda off if the LC set is taller than the MC and UC building in the city??
And is there a cityplan or layout for Rihad? Would be nice to see if it exist.

Dungeons, then. Because houses in Oblivion are just glorified shacks, for the Morrowind modder. They have an outer shell, and an inner shell. No need to gridsnape anything at all.Andres Indoril wrote:Something with gridsnap.
Dexter's veto on shack is conceptual, not technical. In Rihad, squalor is outlawed. Shacks are not manly enough to be tolerated. There will be shacks in Hammerfell cities; just not in Rihad.
I was talking to Elfane last night about the lower class set, and found a pretty awesome style of architecture we could use/gain inspiration from.
Medenine, Tunisia, has some amazing 3 story buildings used as grain stores and shops, they look pretty unique. I think something in a similar style would make an amazing LC set, if not for Rihad, then definately somewhere else.

Ok, here is one version of a 2 storey building. I made it somewhat irregular in the shape. Wich I think add a nice feel to it. I also like that it has window shutters
I have two more pics of multi-storey buildings that are different in their designs on my drawingboard right now. Dont know when they will be finished enough to post, but within the next couple of days they should come up.
Now comment...

me thinks the 2 story is too fancy. the bottom butres thing and the colums could ptobably be removed or simplified segnificantly. over all, i realy like the simple, box like shape of the original.
i agree with what the other said, crouded appartment like look would fit realy well. the pic that orix posted ilustrates the look well (exept the houses should probably be bigger and less round).

I don't think the problem is that it's two stories. I think N was concerned that it doesn't look run-down enough, and I agree.
Imagine my insult to find that "Raw Glass has no effect on you." I became very huffy at the implication that my intelligence could not be lowered further. Then again, I did just eat a piece of glass.
Well for the rundown part, it would'nt be hard to make the plaster cracked and show some brick. That would make it look alot more "trash". Also have some more ideas for modular stuff that would add to a rundown feel.
As for to much windows I dont see what you mean, there is only two windows showing on the whole pic. And it is a big building. So, dont agree.

I think something more along the lines of Morgoth's 2 story LC home would be cool. We could grab the models off him and change em around a bit to make em taller or whatever.
http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?t=16881&highlight=morgoth
BTW, perhaps we could also get the various other bits of architecture he modelled, he made a tower, a gate and some armour I beleieve.

I can't edit the meshes physically anymore without max, but I'd gladly give them to someone who can. Though, there might be a need of mega poly-trimming. Not sure what the count was but I think it was somewhere up in the crazy to insane range.
The models are fairly simple in themselves, they could probably be fairly low-poly when finished.
And yeah, I'd be glad to give out the other models as well. But the tower was a bomb I think. The gate is still fairly usable, and I wouldn't know about the armor. The shield should be good.

Exquisite design Elfane, but not for LC. In fact, it looks a lot like some sketches I made while designing a totally islamic style for the next region's MCs (and I'd love to cooperate with you on it ). Considering Oblivion's scale, the LC must almost always be 1 floor tall, and looking ready to crumble. Exceptions should be rare and only for specific buildings (a warehouse for example).
Tatooine buildings? Love'em, as long as they belong to the dunedwellers. And they'd form an underground/canyon town perfectly. Waitwaitwait, I got it; Tatooine+Petra=Overdose of Visual-Cerebral Excitement.

These are early thoughts on Rihad LC, dont think that they are what we are looking for and I dont really like the second one. But since I coloured them I post them.
First I hear tall buildings, then low buildings... maybe we should decide how big they should be. So big or small?
The ready to crumble part is easy, can make any type of building look like it is about to collapse. Just need a pencil and a sledgehammer.

Looks like Hlaalu stuff with sand and brink underneath. I'm liking that, though. It looks right. I'm personally a fan of the bridges and walkways on top of the buildings--like in Bravil.

Cool, could you upload the LC set in this thread so peeps like Morke and Fairwater can take a look?Morgoth wrote:And yeah, I'd be glad to give out the other models as well. The other stuff could go in your showcase or in OoT threads or something where you deem a good place. Cheers Morgoth!

Here is another thought on LC buildings, to cramp them up like this creates a feeling that they are, well living cramped

Thats a very important distinction we'll have to make. Since the hlaalu architecture was rooted in a persian style, we have to seperate them somehow. Also, since Goldmoor is not a dry region we may want to move away from the light brown color scheme when it comes time to make the textures. We don't want the working class areas of Rihad looking like Balmora.
I do like this concept though. If they're designed the right way, we can fit whole city blocks together like a game of Tetris.
Yes, the general idea of it is Tetris or jigsaw puzzle, a mix of L, T, U and I shaped buildings cramped up on a small space.
The light brownish that I have coloured it with isnt what I have had in mind, more like a eggshell white stuko would be appropriate.
Was thinking about the 3 or 4 floor building that you wanted Sload, but I think that we should save it. Maybe for Taneth. But with the same tight feel of it.

The dull desaturated colours of Balmora would never work here anyway, so there's only minor danger of getting them confused. They were more of a charcoal cement colour. This will have string sunlight on it, and be vibrant. Have we considered painting buidligns in the Upper class by the way? Like lots of idfferent pastel colours for example.
It could be one texture, just with the hue changed...

The majority is the main color (off-white for Goldmoor), outer edge (blue in goldmoor's case), the middle circle is the dome color (goldish in Goldmoor's case).
