Hi, I've basically been toying with the idea of incorporating the "fame rating" system as I do not think it is being used to its full potential. Here's a sort of small questline that I came up with.
Firstly, the player would need to obtain a fame rating that is quite high (i don't know what this would be). Once he/she have done this, they would be awoken when they rest to several guards who take the player to... somewhere... where they meet someone of high importance (again, I don't really know who). This king/queen/president/whatever doubts the player's abilities and gives them a series of 3 very difficult quests to complete to prove themselves. Once these have been completed, a very big reward is given to the player (like weapon or armour or something) as well as the player's own fort. That would be it.
Of course, this is just an example I made up and the final thing can be completely different to this (particularly the fort part but i'd like to have my own fort with guards and stuff), but I do think that the fame rating thing is underused.
A suggestion

In Morrowind yes its more just a global disposition modifier. In Oblivion the Fame/Infamy system is a bit more complex, and there are some quests which are fame-based (like some of the houses cannot be purchased until you have a certain fame) and the gods shun you from shrines if you are more infamous than famous.
I think it would be a really good idea to be invited to courts if you have a very high fame, and conversely, to be invited to shady dens if you have a high infamy.
Something for Sentinel, perhaps?

I quite like the idea actually, but the reward only makes sense if the high person had the intention of giving you a very difficult task first...Chase wrote:Hi, I've basically been toying with the idea of incorporating the "fame rating" system as I do not think it is being used to its full potential. While you can already get a stronghold, none of them felt very strong. In terms of taking on a direct assault I have a feeling that very few places on Vvardenfell would last very long. I like the idea of having a large number of guards in a fortress(and I mean a truly defensible and strategically designed fortress)that you rule over from which you fend off an attack of some kind. You know, a siege with catapults and battering rams and what-not? I'm sure this idea has already been suggested and shot down countless times, but I thought while we were near enough the subject I should mention it. I'm sure the siege idea would make anybody's computer explode when actually playing it.
Also, I think it might be interesting if a player were given an in-game opportunity to create their own faction.
Sorry if I seem to be straying from the original topic at all. Jus thought I'd get those out there.

Actually, (though the whole concept of strongholds was probably already gone through several times by the core, and I have little if any idea on what was decided ), I think that it would be a nice idea if Dres and Indoril Strongholds have a sort of bonus, like a nearby village for the indorils where you're mouth of sorts becomes the hetman, and a plantation and household slaves for the Dres. Maybe even a shrine in both, (One tribunal and the other Daedric. I'm not talking about a ruin, by the way, just a idol for the Dres and a triloth for the Indoril). This way there is more balance with the strongholds without the player actually getting two on the mainland. [/off topic]
As to the fame rating, I'd like it if some of the misc. quest givers had a sort of check. If the player's fame rating is low, things play out normally. If he has a farily decent fame rating the questgivers will come to him to ask him to do their quests, and if his fame rating is very high they will not seek him and treat their request very humbly ("Oh, I'm sure you're too busy, I wouldn't want to trouble you, it's just that *insert quest here*"). This would probably be more work than it's worth, though. I just thought that it would be a nice touch.
