I don't know jack shit about modeling, but it looks pretty good to me. Maybe some of our modelers will have some better comments

Great stuff. Are you interested in architecture modelling for Oblivion? So far we have created exterior architecture for Middle Class (MC) Goldmoor (GM) set. You've probably seen screenshots of these models. Currently Aro101 is designing the interiors, as you can see in this threa:

http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?p=219425#219425

We also have a Lowerclass (LC) set in development, and El_Scumbago is currently designing concepts for the Upper Class (UC) buildings.

There is still plenty more which needs to be done.

I enjoy modeling, but i prefer texture work: the probem is that i'm more prone to mixing and blending in MAX than actualy making the textures in photoshop.

there are things that I don't know how to do in photoshop that I make up for in MAX like masking, layering, half-toning, normal mapping, etc.

I do have an extremely large collection of (un-organized) textures... so that helps.

That is awesome... Especially if you prefer texturing I would like you to get promoted. The texturing you did for this mesh is just great! If you ask me, you could just post one more textured object and you will get my recommendation for promotion.

Edit: Oh, and the file you uploaded is quite big, I will download and take a look at it later(today) :)

If you want, we can test your skills by giving something TR needs (city walls for Goldmoor that I'm supposed to fix), contact me by PM if would like to give a try. I hope nobody has nothing against it ;)

here is my go at softening the tone in a brick texture to decrease bad patterns in color.

not toooo much of a difference but there isn't much detail in the building either. (the texture is also a 250x250 from the game THIEF, and it doesn't tile well)

Well, hello Nex, glad to see a new texturer around. If you're familiar with Oblivion and have a decent knowledge on texturing (which I think you do, judging from the screenies), I'd love to have you onboard. We have a good number of meshes waiting for a nice texture.

in answer to Aro's request, i spent some time this morning on the Rihad wall set.

I did a little 'cut and paste' with the textures to help them better fit (imo) the model

I also found 12 tris that were hiding behind the inner arch that weren't visible, and 4 tris that were welded unevenly to the edges of an object that were making the smoothing have shadowing issues.

Heh, I would prefer the textures that were supposed to be applied for this set, because these are obviously designed for the GM MC exteriors. You should use those that I sent you additionaly for some details if you want. When refining this set, keep in mind these will be the walls that are going be put around cities with exactly such buildings:

http://img359.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mctest2ae2.jpg
http://img372.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mctest4py4.jpg
But you're doing good, and I believe this set will become your promotion material!

You're really amaze me Nex, but still, I don't like that that Big One With Tribal Texture. Just finish texturing the gate and you got my recommendation for promotion :) You're already doing great job! Oh, and there was one thing that I wanted to change with the gate... You see that big "dunno what should I call it" gray thing above the entrance? Remove it from the gate mesh. It is supposed to have a... sign different for each city. It will be added later by a exterior modder in the cs for each gate.

thankyou... i would have had to completely remodel the mesh to properly apply a texture. also, if you could specify exactly which textures you want me to work with, that would make it alot easier. right now its kind of a hit and miss deal.

Here's a screen for You. I put numbers(1-3) on the textures that were designed for this set. Also, for the dome we use that gold texture of course. The rest is up to you. To show you the scale of this set, I put a green line on the frames that are of the same height. I don't feel like we need a complete remodelling for this set, some simple detaching work would do the job if you wish to change the mesh.

thankyou. if you have a decal/design for Rihad that will be different from other GM cities, i think it would be easy for me to work that into the wall texture.

and for OB, 3 plain texures are going to look very unrealistic in-game, so you are going to need between 8 and 12 different textures. BETH used single dds images that were 2-4 textures mixed together, saving time and filespace, but whether you want them individual or mixed you need more to make primitive polys look realistic.

if you apply your UV to a box before molding it into the arch, you'll save yourself alot of time. then when you use tools like bend, taper, skew, etc, the mesh retains the UV map in proportion(thats what i meant about re-meshing)... but if someone knows a way to warp UVW gizmos then let me know :)

Heh, that is something I don't decide. This is up the core, and to be honest, I don't know what is the core's stance about it.

Yes, you're right! Of course you are. I just tell You what textures are designed for the walls (which doesn't mean we can use only them, but which means we should use mainly them. The most important thing is to make them realistic, fitting the rest of the Goldmoor architecture and of course make them lore-friendly).

And I prefer using an editable mesh instead of the tools you mentioned. Here you go, Recommendation for promotion!
I'm sure, You will be very useful for the TR and have a lot of fun here!

haha thankyou, i just wanted to be sure before i put hours into the meshes, and using "editable mesh" tools are probably easier for alot of people, but i dont work very well with tris, and i am certainly not the master of normals! :]

I'll make sure to use the 3 you sent me as the main textures, and i will also make variations of each (for more detail of course) and post them here to get them approved-ish before i spend to much time in MAX

I'm on vacation in Pennsylvania, and am using a Macbook Pro to access the forums via some neighbor's wireless (shh), and I can't see any of the pictures you've posted except for the very last one. That last texture, however, is incredibly hi-res and very realistic.

Don't want to rain on the parade, but those textures were created by Noirgrim and included in the original MC texture set. That being said, you've done a great job of UV mapping and fixing the mesh errors. Welcome to the project.

I'm aware of that Morden. And that is OK. I sent them to Nex (3 textures that were designed for the walls and some that were used for the MC set). And I told Nex to do exactly what I was supposed to do and what Fairwater told me some time ago about this set. We still don't have architecture textures for GM in the OoT other than those for MC. What matters, It would take me much more time(I only hope it isn't eternity :P), to put textures so good as Nex did.
BTW, Morden, I will upload what I have by now for the MC interiors (almost all meshes are ready, and the rest is simple) and if you have some time you can design some textures or improve those stupid ones created by me. It would be great if you could.

And now... Congratulations! :D

thankyou for the welcome here.

if you want to change the textures, I thnk its possible to use different brick and stone textures as long as you keep to the scales and borders of the origional maps.

brick will be alot harder to change and should only be re-colored or "'textured' in photoshop". As far as stucco, solid stone, and decals go, you can probably change anything you want except size and scale.

needless to say, if the texture is used on objects that intersect eachother and smash together (thus requiring alot of UVW work) I would still need to edit the UV maps.

sorry about going all wiki on you but i haven't slept in quite a while and my picture reference and slideshow abilities are quite shot. (mind you, i did have a very good idea on how to say it with pics but i just type faster :P

does anyone know how to use targa images (or max tools) to create exportable shafts of light? Im trying to get this:

but all i can get is this:

i've gone over the tut time and time again and i can't figure out what i'm doing wrong.

of course, i'm sure there is a way to put light beams in OB that have no collision and little opacity. (grrr, there has to be! "shakes fist at computer")
