I think that plant is really cool. It doesn't look too hard to model, other than the main body. I've never modeled plants so im not the one to say, But i really like the concept and I think it has really good hammerfell properties.

as to your creature, your concept is good: im just the worst creature modeler on this planet.... so animal concepts scare me :D

thanks for the reply :) Im not good at modelling creatures either, but I think this one is rather easy. Im going away for 2 days tomorrow and I think I can make alot of concept art in those days. I just made 2 atmospheric drawings but IMO they kinda suck, maybe I post them later to hear how to do them better, but right now I dont have the nerves to post them.

It's niec to see an artistic addition to the cocnept art section. However, maybe if you want some feedback, you can be equally as kind and post on someone elses cocnept art thread.

Some of the artists (maybe the newer ones) would really like your input as a modeller.

Anwyay, abck onto your art, which is very good indeed. Maybe you coudl think about makign some interesting shaped body parts, or perhaps the creature is intelligent enough to create simple embelleshing accessories. Think about really strange details, oen thign I can say, is that reptiles like this are suited to Hammerfall. And I lie it a lot.

I agree. I also like the fact that you built a background story for your image, which is something I rarely see.

got one drawing finished, I only sketched the beast and coloured it, the envirement is completely done on the pc with The Gimp.

quest idea: <you walk the shores of a big water (big lake or sea) in Hammerfell> <women comes running to you histiricly and crying> women: RUN! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! THE BEAST IS COMING! (or something like that) <after you walk to the direction she came from the beast is slowly coming out of the water.>

a custom model that requires animations that would be used for a single quest is a horribly inefficient idea. Also, don't double post.

of course I dont mean to make a seperate object for an entire quest, I mean a quest where there is a colony of beasts in a part in the sea near a village (call it A) and with the quest you actually find out what sort of beastst it are and what sort of ingredients you can get from it. (you kill the beast, and now people in village A like you more and if you click rumors they say something like "thanks for killing one of them", now if you talk to an alchemist he tells you about the beast and what sort of ingredients you can get for it, and he tells you to he can make a potion for you with the ingredients. also, the count or ruler of that city gives 100 gold for each ingredient you give him, the alchemist idea is a bit like the nirnroot quest and the count idea is a bit like the black bows quest)
and about the double post: you mean I should edit the post I posted a few days ago and just post the image in that post? IMO that isnt a good way of posting, but if the almighty admin says so: I will never make that mistake again.

Okay ladies.... this J-fest orgy is over.

I'm going to comment, on your sea-monster.

I agree with TF that it isn't good to make a creature for one quest, and I also think that you'd need to elaborate on the design for it to seem a very worthy creature. Which it could very easily become. My only problem with the basic design is that it's quite dreugh like.

I know that designing and creating completely new creatures is fun, but IMHO TR should first add those creatures of which existence we are sure. The stance on new creatures should be simillar to TRs stance on new races. If it would depend on me, I would make a research mianly here http://til.gamingsource.net/bestiaries/
And then make the concept artists redesign the creatures (sabertooth tigers are really cool! ;))

I dont agree with that, IMO thats like comparing a tiger to a wolve. I know, they are both (dreugh and the seamonster) crab like but that doesnt make them look like together. I had a look at the original concept art from the dreugh and the only comparisment I could find whas that they both look a bit crabby. (cats look like tigers to but that doesnt make them to lookalike)
here's the original:
http://www.freakygaming.com/gallery/concept_art/elder_scrolls_iv:_oblivion/troll_dreugh
in the original you can see the dreugh is very scropion like and has a much more different head, arms and legs than the seamonster.

I also meant the water dreugh. And you are right, they are very different. But they are not different enough for an obviously invented species (your concept) to be differentiated from a mixture of land and water dreugh.

To be honest, it's a reasonably basic concept, especially as it's a more atmospheric piece, so not so much detail can be shown. And without the detail we can't make judgements on the similarities anyway. It's a great piece of art, and a good concept, but one that is not adequately unique, developed or needed.

Don't give up after you first creature though, because as you start to get a feel for it you'll find it's really fun AND, that your ideas will start becoming more advanced and unique.

I wouldn't say that it isn't needed. I thought that one of the things that oblivion players sometimes moan about is the lack of sea life. As for not being unique, I think that it has a great possibility of being unique. Take away the eyes and instead use those crab-like thingummies, and you have a very unique critter already, I don't think that's been thought of. A big walking crab. It's definately got me inspired. :D

Inadequately developed, covers both those points.

And that is certainly and with a basis such as this easily rectifiable.

I get it, thanks for the replies. Im going to france the day after tommorow for 3 weeks (!) and hope I can get some inspiration there. I will not anymore sketch creatures and then draw the lines and such with Gimp but Im now going to draw only with charcoal, pencils and coloured pencils becouse I dont like the 2 last static looking drawings. I also made some stuff in Germany but that whas a cycling vacation (cycling all the day and then go to bed fast, in the morning get out of bed very early, take a breakfast and cycle the whole day again) in some way I couldnt get concentrated and all my drawings failed. But the vacation to France will be very boring so I hope I can at least post some drawings which are of normal TR-quality when I get back.

I dont know... IMO it just doesnt look right, I always have problems with reviewing my own work for some reason. (the negative aspects of the drawings, 3d models, and textures I make are getting "oversized" in my mind and the positive aspects are getting pushed to the background, which is handy for modding in some cases, but it can also be a pain in the ass)

I can't help thinking that that feeling is very normal, especially in artists. I never really enjoy going through my old work, and often think that I did a really lousy job. And I am currently wishing that I reflected more before drawing the sea creature. There's some truth in the saying that you are your harshest critic. :P

Yes, it is totally true.

Which is why theoretically, you shouldn't need me to be an ass about it. Alas, I often am. And to be honest, I never judge someones work more brutally than they do, unless they are conceited enough not to realise that it's at the level others see.

I have some problems with getting acces to a working scanning device but I will certainly have the concepts online in the next 3 days, until then I tell you guys what I drew in the vacation:

-ideas for more realistic looking mountains in LOD(and close range to)

-idea for a new crabking beast

-many Sotha-Sil statue concepts for the Morrowind TR mod

-a Hammerfellian waterbeast which is active at night

-big Hammerfellian desert reptile beast

-and more....

I hope the idea for the more realistic looking mountains is OK with you quys becouse IMO they now look more like oversized hills (I do like the mountains near Bruma, but the other ones are IMO not realistic). I studied several mountains at my vacation and I made 2 charcoal drawings where I tried to add all the nice looking features of the mountains I studied on my vacation into one object. The 2 charcoal drawings are Tamriel drawings but IMO they can be used in Hammerfell near the Tamriel border. They can to be used if the trees are removed and you use a desert rock look like texture. Off course this is just a idea and I hope the concepts I will post soon make my ideas more clear.

First of all, Hammerfell is part of Tamriel, you're probably thinking of the Imperial Province. :P

Anyway, I've seem a lot of mountains that looked like over-sized hills, and it definatly fits with the climate of the Imperial city. In this way more triangular mountains probably won't be used much for Hammerfell, I can only see them being used by the higher parts of the Dragontails, the small mountain range near Rihad and, maybe, surrounding the Alik'ir (sp?) Not having seen it, though, I might be thinking of something different.

I can't wait to see your other concepts. Especially the Sotha Sil one. I was thinking of drawing the statue myself, but as he has no lower legs I couldn't get past wondering how he stands upright... It's a bit silly for Sotha Sil to have a permanently levitating statue, hovering over the platform, or for the statue to be kept up by wires.

there already whas a sotha-sil statue with legs, and I gave all my objects legs to: it happens often that gods who dont look like human beings at all are "humamized" just to give the statue a better look, or to make people believe better in the god.

Another option could be to make some kind of 'base' for him to stand on (in legless mode), perhaps a swirl of fire or something suitably 'magickal'.
