Holy Lands is good. But what is the name of the actual 'region'? (which of Morrowind's "six administrative districts" is it mostly part of?) Map 1 was the Telvannis region, and thus named that. Do we know what Map 2 is?

map 2 is the south of telvanni and north east of tribunal... but afiak much of it is actualy the "holy lands" of necrom. my only problem with Holy Lands and its many variants is the cliche-ness... but i would be willing to let that slide

Hmm. I like "Deif", but that "Providihn" is too long. It'd be a bugger to get into dialogue. I just can't imagine anyone saying it. Seems too unweildy. Anything else suitable? I dunno: Sacred Hills? Sacred Fields?

We could just make up a word for holy, and change the word for land.

I think we don't need to make a name after the dominant force in the map, we may as well depict the overall feel of the map. Not the whole of it is a resting place for ancestors, nor is the whole of it sacred, so holy lands and the like may not be the best choice imo.
Map2 however is the borderline between the Telvanni district and the Indoril one, so we can as well find something along these lines.

The problem is that Map 2 is so clearly divided into three or four spheres of influence, and is so varied geographically. What name could you give to the entirety such a place?
I suggested Reif Bulor before, meaning "Sacred Place". It is a little shorter and catcher than Reif Providhin.

If it is three regions, why not name it 3-land or something like that.
3 directions, Cahnduhn
3 factions Cahnprovihn
3 place Cahnbulor
3 tribe Cahnmerial
3 home Cahnruhn
Of those I think Cahnbulor sounds the best and is the easiest.

How about borderlands?
Or- here's a radical suggestion... Necrom? Necromis? I know there's more to the map, but come on- what is more tantilizing than a big dunmer necropolis?!

I like Rief Bulor-but other suggestions:
Dunmeris?
What about something to do with Bothia lake.
I really like Borderlands.
Indoril-Telvannis?
Whats sacred East in Dunmer?
Whats dragon land in dumer (dragon glade, dragonhead point (dragonnest inn?))?
The point in dumer? (it has the easternmost point that is connected to the mainland)

I actually like Necromis.
Sacred Place: Deif Bulor
Sacred East: Deif Muhrduhn
Edge Lands: Jehrlas Providiihn
Dragon Land: Aka Providihn
Dunmeris is another name for Morrowind and Resdayn, literally meaning land of the Dunmer. To answer before it is asked: Velothis, a variant of this, would be the ideal name for Map 5 after the Velothi Mountains.
Boethia Lake is a single region in a greatly varied one. Won't work IMO. Indoril-Telvannis ignores the Imperial presence and, more importantly, Necrom. I personally don't like anything about "point".
We are unfortunate in that Map 2 contains the border region between two of the aforementioned districts.

We can conjecture about Morrowind's six administrative districts. The only two we know for sure of are Vvardenfell and Mournhold. Narsis and Firewatch are mentioned as capitals of districts. We have enough of the pattern to work out that the 6 districts are likely: Vvardenfell (Ebonheart), Mournhold (Mournhold), "Telvannis" (Firewatch}, "Velothis" (I just reckon it works) (Blacklight), Hlaalu-based one (Narsis) and Dres-based one (Tear). That is each of the traditional great house lands form a district with the last being the former Temple preserve of Vvardenfell.Bloodthirsty Crustacean wrote:Holy Lands is good. I think we should run a poll and let the majority decide. I believe there are four contestants here, Necromis, Deif Bulor, Sacred East(Deif Murduhn) and I hope Cahnbulor as well. I like all four but I obviously support Cahnbulor the most. It is logical to name it 3 places because there are three dunmer factions struggling for control over it. (and obviously the imperials as well, but the land was named before they arrived) A coincidence is that the dunmer also have 3 gods and that they are worshipped in this map as well. But we should run a poll and let the majority decide.

Necromis makes the most sense to me. I personally joined the project because of the Necrom screenshots, and I'm sure most of the public wants Map 2 for that city. Plus, they can identify Telvanni from Telvannis, but all of the other Dunmeri names for Map 2 aren't really able to be recognized.
Just a thought.

I agree, but I worry that we might end up with a seeming "thing-is" theme, which isn't necessarily a good thing. But it's not necessarily a bad thing either.Nanu Ra wrote:Necromis makes the most sense to me. Whatever we do, someone needs to come up with one of those sexy 'splash screens' like the one that was on the news post for the latest beta-REL of map 1. I love those things. It makes everything look so damn official.

Necromis just sounds wierd. the mix of latin and dunmer makes it sound acward. Also, i think that while Necrom is a major factor in the map, its not all thats in there. i would prefer something more neutral...

Well, Viking's four were all good, though perhaps meaningless to those without TR's Dunmeri dictionary. Do we want something that the locals might call the area (perhaps relating to the "six administrative disctricts") or just a generic title for this part of the mod?

I'm all for Borderlands, or something similar, and I don't think it's necessary to Dunmerify it. After all, it's just the name of the map. Let's not forget that, while map1's officially called "Telvannis", none of its residents refers to the "Telvannis" area. I could be wrong about this however, but I've not met anyone who said that.
The Schism would be nice, since that area feels like torn apart and divided.

Telvannis is mentioned. It is the name (or the name we gave to) one of the administrative districts (I know, I love those things, shush) of Vvardenfell. I used it quite a bit in a couple of my quests. (E.g. Temple questline refers to "events in the Telvannis region" and there's a bit of local dialogue here and there all over the place)

The problem with Borderlands that I can see is that Map 2 isn't the only map which straddles a border between two great houses. Seen Map 4? We'll have a hard time coming up for a name for that map if we use it here.
I agree with theviking in that it is seems to be between the following four:
1) Necromis (Necrom-region)
2) Deif Bulor (Sacred Place)
3) Deif Muhrduhn (Sacred East)
4) Cahnbulor (Three Place)
Each one has its pros and cons.

I think most of the proposed dunmeri names are awkward looking. we dont want to call it map 2: Tychkhwqaxzxzor- no matter what that actualy means.
Sacred East is cool, Borderlands is cool. I still like Necromis. I think a poll is the best way to both be fair- and also to get a feel for what popular opinion might lean toward. Heck, maybe we could even make it a public vote?

To some. To me, I think 'wtf?' and I probably know more about Dunmeri than most people at TR; I helped invent some of what we use today. I think we should try to stick to English as much as possible.IAMTHEEMPEROR wrote:I vote Cahnbulor. Has a nice ring to it.
The choices so far are
Necromis (ew)
Borderlands (lame)
Sacred East (cool)
Dunmeri words (wtf, mate?)
Are there any other contenders?
(Edit- btw my vote goes to Sacred East)
