I like Sacred East the most of those. The only problem I have with the name though is it doesn't, unlike most TES names, have a sort of ring or something to it. eg: Mournhold has a nice ring, it rolls off the tongue, it doesn't look or sound a little awkward. Sacred East doesn't really share that property IMO and I find it a little odd. The two parts of the name don't flow into each other.
<insert witty signature here. i might spend time trying to come up with something, but its not like anybody reads these anyway>

Very nice. I just love those things.Lutemoth wrote:
Just to get a feeling, here's the basis for the map2 title
One thing, the text on the borders (House names) seems out of place, too bright. Maybe lower the contrast/make it less 'sharp' or something.
EDIT: BTW, is there a reason that no one's made any 'vanilla-themed' splash screens for TR? Some that would fit in seamlessly with the originals, yet promote TR, with relevant suits of armour, or creatures? Because that would be the coolest thing ever!
It would provide a great excuse to get some of you guys' phenomenal concept art in game, as well.
I'd never have guessed.Haplo wrote: Necromis (ew)

(Edit- btw my vote goes to Sacred East)
I'm with Hemitheon here (and Nomadic, about Sacred East being 'not flowy'). Though "Cardeif" sounds like Cardiff, and Sinridu almost sounds like 'sin-ridden' to me, which is kinda not what we're aiming for. Also doesn't sound very Dunmeri.Hemitheon wrote:Sacreth is too obvious.
Here's one Im throwing it: "Cardeif" Ancestor's East
or "Sinridu" Sun's Throne
I mean Telvannis isnt English unless it's a plural noun which I have been assuming it isn't. For the sake of immersion I say the name should go Dunmer.

Then I vote Borderlands instead if Cahnbulor is out
Sacred East, as it was said, just doesn't sound right. Though it's a cool name, the sound of saying it makes it sound like an adjective rather than a name. So Borderlands seems like the best option.

Personally, I kinda have a thing for Deif Murduhn. Sounds very Dunmeri, and is Sacred East, which we mostly agree sounds coolest.
I really like it m'self. But everyone else probably hates it.

The goal is not to sound as Dunmeri as possible. In fact I would say Dunmeri is bad. Is Telvannis Dunmeri? I dunno, but it's basically Telvanni. With an S on the end. Everyone knows what Telvanni is. 100% Dunmeri != ideal; no one knows what it means, or even how to pronounce it.
Telvannis was cool. It's like Tribunus or Necromis (ie Dunmeri but obvious). Deif Bulor or Murduhn is like 'uh what?' Not hating on Dunmeri, but we want the name to be catchy for every ES fan who sees it, not only the intellectual ones. So if you can think of a Dunmeri word that's obvious or very common/easy to understand without knowing Dunmeri, rock on.
Otherwise we will never get anywhere and I'll just pull rank and say it HAS to be English, or just pick one.

If my voice matters, I agree with Sacred East as a name for Map 2. Necromis is nice...yet it doesn't seem to fit with the language or style of the dunmer. Perhaps as an imperial name or some such. Naming it in dunmer words is, as has already been brought up, confusing and difficult. We would want something that new players of our mod could easily understand and relate to. Telvannis was easy to understand: it was in Telvanni territory and had largely to do with the Telvanni.
Sacred East shows that there is some importance to this area, for the Tribunal. Almsivi, I agree, fits much better with Map 3, because of Almalexia. It is the capitol and all.
Sacred East comes easily to the tongue, it has a clear meaning, and it still adds a sense of mythology and mystery. It doesn't isolate the grandness of the map to a single city or site. Nor does it overplay its importance.

I seem to be just making bad suggestions today
I've been scouring a word that isn't harsh on the tounge (like Sacred East is) and since all the spirits go to Necrom, why not have Spiritis?
(I can't tell whether it should be spirritis or spiritis )
Spiritis has an obvious meaning - like Telvannis - and it isn't hard to pronounce like any dunmer word. It signifies Necrom but doesn't disclose the rest of the map. Also ALMSIVI wouldn't be a bad name for Map 2 since Map 3 could be easily called just Indoril since that is its whole territory. We could just say that Spiritis means 'land of the spirits' in dunmeri, since it sounds like that.
Please consider it since my last suggestion was immediately labelled 'crap'.

I go with sacred east too then. The name is correct, because it lies in the east and part of it is sacred. Furthermore it gives a sence of mytique to the map. Also it means I only have to change one word in the maps i made of map2.

'Sacred East' sounds good to me, but as Nomadic said, it doesn't flow perfectly; it seems a little abrupt.
The simple fix for this would be 'The Sacred East'; to my mind it flows a bit better, is still nice and short / catchy, and inspires the imagination of the gamers (as viking said, it sound mystic).
What ya all think?

I'm not sure what you mean by changing the ALMSIVI letters to House letters. What are we talking here? Fonts? Actual letters? I'm a bit confused. Regardless, the current version is... awesome!

As for the name of the map, I've just realised something. No-one need ever say this name in-game, because it bears no relevance to any in-game concept. It's not one of the "six districts", it's nada. This is a concept that belongs solely to TR, as we are the only ones who divide things along the Map borders.
Thusly, all we need is something cool, not something 'immersive', so I'm 100% for Sacred East.

Oh, that would be soo damn good! Do you have the Telvannis one anywhere, I need to download it and store it for posterity(sp?), and it's been gone from the News for some time.
I think we should, at least, include these 'title screens' as an image file to give out with the download.
And of course, any vanilla-style splash screens made can be included with the download as .tgas to be put in-game.

Hmm? We're dreaming about including the Sacred East/whatever title screen being included in an official style installer (like where the Tribunal images show up when installing that, but nowhere else) and I considered suggesting putting the thing in a standard image file as a little bonus part of the download.
Then me and Lute were considering (and hopefully Lute will be able to make it a reality) a series of vanilla-themed splash screens for TR that could be put (in colour) in everyone's Splash Screens folder.
I think you're thinking about BookArt, which (I don't think) is what we're talking about.

That is too similar to Spiritus Sanctii; 100% Latin. It is a cool word though, and fun to say.Jedak wrote:Spiritis
With 12 votes for Sacred East, it's domination appears to be final. So for now Sacred East is the name of Map 2. Yay and stuff.

What about all the people complaining about it not rolling off their tongue? I'm a bit late, but I might as well pitch in my opinion, I hope no one minds. My problem with "Sacred East is that it is so very generic. It has probably been applied to all sorts of places in real life. Then again, "Sacred Lands", one of the titles that I'd prefer, is even less original. I agree with whoever-it-was that Dunmer names, while sounding very good, hold no meaning to most people and, due to this, shouldn't be used. That in mind, I'd prefer "Necrom" (the "-is" seems unecessary to me), with Borderlands being the title of Map 4.
Just thought I'd throw one out there:
"Hallowed Paths"
'Twould fit nicely into promo blurb.
Maybe this is coming a bit late, but it just came to me.

Sacred and profane refers to the interface between the godless Telvanni and both the Sacred Lands and the Indoril territory they border."Seek out the hidden secrets of the east as you tread the Hallowed Paths between the profane and the sacred, the old and the new."

Also good. And that blurb is nice... I still don't really mind though, because as I said, it never has to be said in-game, so whatever the admins think will 'sell' best is what I think we should go with.

How about just say "Map 2 ... will make your eyes water and your hair ignite from the straight up craziness contained in it, for real, we're not lying"
Throw that into some sort of a nice graphic and we're set.

Hmm, I thought we already decided that it would be Sacred East and you agreed with it. At one point we got to stop suggesting and go with the idea that the most people have. In this case, that is Sacred East.
