Internet providers are evil!

Post by Harke the Apostle »

I ordered internet five weeks ago, and they told me yesterday I have to wait two more weeks, when they promised delivering it to me within four weeks.
I can file a complaint they said, but only via my account that I don't have because they haven't delivered my internet yet.

I agree with you, Internet providers are pure evil. I know people who couldn't get their internet for half an year after ordering...

I kind of knew in advance that it wouldn't go smoothly, but I'm disappointed nonetheless.

This is why I like living in a small town. It took less than two weeks to get my DSL (756k). It's a small town of only 5,500 people, so there wasn't much competition to get it set up. My connection at home is even better than my connection at my university (not as much competition for bandwidth here).

Another reason small towns kick ass: Our bill for ALL the utilities (except cable and internet) was only $121 for the whole month. :P

Therefore, the solution to all your problems is to move to a small town :P.

I live in a semi small town. It sucked until the time I joined TR. Essentially after over 5 years of waiting for either cable or dsl to be available in my area. Much to my frustration, I lived in something like a 1 square mile area where neither services could be offered. A mile south and verizon had dsl available but it wouldn't reach us. A mile north and south the cable company switched with the town borders and the people on either side had it, but not what was our town's provider.

Then, when we had it installed. The service wasn't active yet, so we were the first in the area to have a cable modem that didn't work for another 3 weeks.

In Delft we have hyperfast and supercheap internet from the uni in our studenthousing. Unfortunately my house was exempt.. :(
If the lady at the desk in the internetshop was right I should have my internet next thursday, but I'm sure I won't have it by then...

Some of you are aware of the fact that I've been visiting an internet cafe for the past 2 years. Wanna know how things came to this? Here's the sad story.

Every telephone line in greece belongs to a national organisation. There are several providers, but they all depend on these lines. Furthermore, this beautiful national company/organisation finds great pleasure in overcharging the users of its telephone lines without any particular reason or excuse. So, when I first got my humble 368 DSL connection back then, I double checked every detail and finally got the price of my subscription confirmed; 300 euros for six-month connection, including the upgrade of my home's lines and the router. However, when the next phone bill hit my mailbox, I saw that I was charged 400 euros. I was only using my cell phone to call other people and the phone lines of my house were reserved for my internet connection alone, so you can imagine my surprise. I went straight to the local department demanding explanations, but returned home undone. The next step was to stop my subscription and never give these fuckers a cent.

Moral lesson: Never give your hard-earned cash to a national organisation/company/service. You can always burn it yourself.

P.S. I apologize for speaking of national stuff, I'm aware that this might extend to a political conversation, which is something I don't wish for. I only mentioned that stuff because they're part of the story.

In my country we have a pretty simillar situation to yours El Scum ;) To be honest, I heard stories that sound exactly the same as yours. Nah, national stuff isn't the problem here, even when the company isn't national no more it still controls almost all the phonelines. But fortunetaly, it changes, and it is only a matter of time when internet providers will give a fast connection for a fair price.

I live in a small town and our bills and taxes suck immensely.

Of course said small town is about an hour away from Philly so I guess its to be expected.

I requested internet from our former national phone and post agency. They used to be reliable.

Its kinda like a cycle. They take too long to provide the internet, so they get the complaints. Then they slightly get slower at delivering the internet because of the complaints and on and on untill they have enough complaints to cover florida and providers so slow that its a different year that you have ordered it when you get it. :P

Dude, that's why i dont deal with that crap. call me old school, but im fine with dial up. Really, im -DIAL UP BURN IN HELL!!! -just- GAHHH!!!EVIL SLOW SPEED DIE!!!!! -fine.

I live in the worst place for anything other than dial up. my town is basically a flat area with a nice lake, surrounded by mountains, in the middle of nowhere, about 60 miles either way on the highway to either Screw-off, AZ or Crackhead Central, AZ. really, the only idiot provider for anything says "$40 a month!". Mercifully, my dial up bill is only $10. On a good day, after a defrag, it runs about...115 kb/s.

I have done everything to piss the providers off, brazenly downloading all kinds of files of big sizes in hours (the TR 50mb download took about 3hrs). What else is a rebel punk to do?

Agreed providers should just stop stockpiling all the money and fucking around with everyone. They would get more customers if they would lower their prices and stop being retarded. The greater income would DEFINITLY make up for the lower prices they would charge, and the time they would waste? None!

Harke, i feel for ya, bro. they are ALL money-grubbing bastards.

I just have to vent my frustration at my first internet provider.
Against my better judgement, I went there again today.
They won't take back the 159,- euro router I had to buy, which is still as good as new and completely useless to me.
(and I'm broke...)

Yeah. Hopefully it makes them feel bad - and they'll return it for you. Sure, the chances are low but its worth a try.

In arkansas we don't get free health insurance and we are poor. I just now got internet after having it ordered for two months. The tower fell and they had to fix it. The Argonian is lucky

I feel your pain, but state health insurance unfortunately isn't free. (although it offers a lot more value for money than health insurance in the US does).

Tower Fell

Post by Hillbilly Man »

Well in Arkansas all the people that build the wireless towers are no good. There were some strong wind storms that came through the area and the whole tower fell to the ground. It made me so mad. The storm was probaly caused by daedra though.
